New details just in to the live desk about the suspect, aberdeen, maryland say shot one of their officers. 21yearold Tyler Testerman faces attempted murder charges after the shooting on ohio court. We just heard from police a short while ago about their search. Id like to thank all of you guys for your participation in this. Its generating lots of new information thats coming in to our department. Id like to thank the public on behalf of the Aberdeen Police department for their actions that theyre taking by reaching out, making that phone call. As a result of this intense manhunt, all of the schools in the aberdeen area closed for the day. We also have learned this tenyear veteran officer who suffers these injuries to his face and eye area is in stable condition being prepped for surgery. Police have not released his name. He was shot while speaking with a potential victim who called 911 about a suspicious person. Back to you. Were learning more about the mass shooting in San Bernardino. We just learned a couple of minutes ago that the rife in the attack pledged allegiance to isis using a facebook alias and then deleted her postings. Right now police and the fbi are looking for a man who bought two of the gun thats suspects used. Investigators say all of the guns were bought legally, but the suspects only bought the two pistols they used to kill 14 people earlier this week. Someone else bought the two rifles. Farooks brotherinlaw says the shooting was personal act not connected to his muslim faith. Farhan khan says farook was not radicalized but called him a bad person. He left his 6monthold daughter, you know, in this life. Some people cannot have kids. God gives you the gift of a daughter and you left that kid behind. What did you achieve . Khan says he and the family would have called police if they had the slightest idea something was wrong. Khan and farooks sister are in the process of legally adopting the baby girl. In just about an hour lawmakes from capital hill are about to visit a mosque to pray for tolerance. Mosques across the country have reported acts of intolerance and islam phobia after last weeks shooting. Last week a man left a fake explosive device. Throughout the hour, well pass along any updates, how its influencing washington, and well have a live report from San Bernardino later this hour. In reston right now, fire investigators are examining a house that went up in flames today. Chopper 4 flew over the house fire shortly after it happened. A woman was in this house and managed to get out. However she was seriously hurt. Now shes recovering in the hospital. We dont know her condition at this time. Im Megan Mcgrath live along Rockville Pike. Last night a Montgomery County Police Officer was critically injured when he was hit by a car during a routine traffic stop. If you look behind me here, you can see the spray painted marks left behind by the accident reconstruction team. These marks telling the story of what happened. We have four orange marks here. These are the wheels of the police cruiser. Just little ways up ahead, we have four white marks. This was the car that was pulled over in the traffic stop. Then we have a third color. You can see this yellow curved line. This is where the Police Officer was struck. He was outside of his cruiser when he was hit by a small passing suv. Police say the driver of that suv may have been drinking. Lets look at the video from last night. This happened around 9 45 on Rockville Pike in front of the edmonston crossing shopping center. The officer was seriously injured. He is in Critical Condition and being watched closely at an area hospital. He has been with the Montgomery County police force for less than five years. He was temporarily assigned to the Holiday Alcohol Task force. The driver of the small suv that hit him did stay on the scene, was taken into Police Custody and may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time. Police have not released the name of the officer or driver. We expect that information later on today this is just an example of how dangerous traffic stops can be for Police Officers. They are outside of their cruisers sometimes still in a lane of traffic with cars moving through the area. They are very, very vulnerable. University of virginia dean is taking her defamation lawsuit to court today, that according to our News Partners at wtop. The dean is suing Rolling Stone magazine for 7. 5 million. She says their article featuring a debunked account of an alleged gang rape on campus cast her as the chief villain. The dean will try to compel the female accuser in the article to testify. A form employin an october say they found cocaine, crack and heroin inside Lorenzo Saunders apartment during a raid in october. He pled not guilty to Unlawful Possession of cocaine. He was hired by the Gray Administration in 2012. We want to take to you an nbc special report. Sources have said theres a connection between the wife involved in the shooting, the female shooter here, and her having pledged allegiance to isis. There was a Facebook Posting that seems to have indicated that may have been the case. We remember that the fbi went into the home that the couple shared, they reprieved some computers where they were able to tell that information had been deleted. It seems as though at this point some information may have been recovered from one of those devices. And they may indicate a greater connection to isis. We are awaiting this temperatures today are going to top out in the low to mid 50s depending on your location. Plenty of sunshine out there. It is going to be a chilly night. Good morning we have new details about the mass shooting, including a pledge to isis by Tashfeen Malik. Lets bring in Pete Williams who has been working this story. What can you tell us about this posting . Natalie, several Law Enforcement officials told us that just before thek4 shootingn San Bernardino, Tashfeen Malik posted a statement of sort for the isis leader, al baghdadi on a Facebook Page. They say this Facebook Page was not in her name but in an alias. They say the posting went up and a short time later it was taken down. Now, this doesnt mean that the attack was directed by isis. It may not be any sign of that at all. But it does suggest that she was strongly committed to an isis philosophy and, in fact, in previous attacks, many people have posted statements of support just carrying out attacks and its in a sense part of the isis playbook to have people make these expresses of support. Isis itself has never taken ™ San Bernardino shootings. Its possible that the isis leadership is totally unaware of this posting because lots of people post lots of things about isis around the world every day and they cant possibly know about them all, and it wasnt up there long. Its something that the fbi uncovered as they go through the electronic devices, the emails, phone calls, social media postings of this couple looking for any kind of clue about what drove them do it. Isis has been a main concern of the u. S. Through just this sort of radicalization. Not directed plots, but people who follow isis propaganda through their relentless outpouring of propaganda around the world every day. Much of it in english. Much of it in the native languages of these two, thats the fear. Isis will say to people wherever you are, go out and kill whoever you can. It certainly pushes this investigation much more in the direction of a terror attack. Pete, what are investigators doing now to find out more about her background . Well, the fbi has legal attaches in pakistan n islamabad. They are reaching out and have been since the shooting, since the discovery of their identities to learn more about her. She is from pakistan. He has said, syed farook said he met herrion li online, in an on dating service, met her in person and brought her back to the United States last year. She was brought back on what is called a fiancee or k1 visa. Earlier this year became a lawful permanent resident. He was a u. S. Citizen because he was born here. Thats been a big question all along. Was she the radical influence in his life . Something certainly changed dramatically for him. And going overseas and meeting someone, coming back and marrying them is a dramatic change in itself. Certainly is. A big development. Pete williams, thank you very much. The defendant, officer porter, arrived at the court laos with sh courthouse with sheriffs protection. We also saw the states attorney heading in there. There were a few demonstrates who greeted them outside the court. They held up freddie gray signs. Police had to be called to quiet them down. A detective who spoke at the hospital with gray is back on the stand. Prosecutors argue he failed to seat belt gray in the back of that van and failed to get him medical help. Firefighters are working a 2alarm fire at this Apartment Building behind us. The area here is blocked off. If we zoom in here, you can see firefighters are climbing up the ladder, going on top of the roof. Were told by firefighters on the scene that the fire started on a first floor balcony and continued to rise up. We want to show you video we shot earlier where you could see the smoke coming out of the top of that unit. Were told the building evacuated around 10 30 when the call came in the fire alarm went off. Fire crews rushed to the scene here to try to contain this fire. We had an opportunity to speak with residents who evacuated. They told us they heard the fire alarm but didnt think it was real until they smelled smoke. One man said he walked out of his apartment, looked down the hallway and it was filled with smoke. An active scene here. Rescuers with Doctors Without Borders saved a newborn from a capsizing boat off the coast of a greek island. A double decker boat filled with my grandparent families from turkey ran aground and was capsizing. That newborn baby was taken on board the rescue boat. Everyone else made it safely to land as well. A Police Officer who was killed at a planned parenthood clinic in colorado will be laid to rest today. The officer and two other people were killed in that attack. Thousands of people are expected at his funeral today. He was 44 years old and served with the Colorado Springs Police Department for six years. Aberdeen police just revealed that information in the last 20 minutes or so. 21yearold Tyler Testerman is accused of shooting a tenyear veteran in the face. Hes facing attempted murder charges. The shooting happened on ohio court in a residential neighborhood early this morning. The officer is undergoing surgery but is in stable condition. Thats the latest. Back to you. A driver is in custody after Montgomery County police say he hit an officer on Rockville Pike. The officer is recovering in the hospital. Investigators suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. A possible link to isis in the San Bernardino shooting rampage. The female shooter reportedly posted a statement of support for isis on social media. We learned the 27yearold, Tashfeen Malik, used an alias in the Facebook Posting and then deleted those messages before the attacks. This is the most significant piece of information linking the shootings that left 14 dead to a terror motive. Malik was a pakistani native who came to this country last year on a fiance visa before they married syed farook. We will have updates inside our nbc washington app and later today on news 4. As we process the shootings in San Bernardino and all the recent Mass Shootings in this country, many of us are talking about that with our children. One child psychologist told us its important to have a consistent message. Its a balancing act of reality but not generalizing it and to be overly cautious. Dr. Saunders says you can say Mass Shootings are rare. You can also reassure kids that you are keeping them safe. Its okay to be aware, though, of your own feelings, too. The aftermath of a devastating fire that burned through this home. The sounds were terrifying. This man called 911. The woman who lives here was able to get herself out of ne immediate danger. She got out. The two Police Officers had her lying on the sidewalk until the ambulance arrived. We transported her to the landing zone where she was flown to med star burn unit. The fire spread quickly. First started at 3 00. It was a tiny bit of fire to the right of the door. Within five minutes the living room was pretty much engulfed. Reporter police had already been to the home. The victims home was vandalized earlier. Perhaps now another piece of the puzzle. Were unsure if its connected to the fire. Investigators are looking at that. Reporter out of all of the tragedy here, the saving grace for this row of town houses is the age of the homes. We just learned one of the suspected shooter theres pledged allegiance to isis on social media. Well go live to San Bernardino in a moment. Breaking news. Huge new developments to the mass shooting in San Bernardino. Its a link to isis. The strongest indicator of a possible connection to a terror attack. Nbcs jay gray has the latest news here. Reporter youre right. This is a huge break in the case. Investigators continuing to pore through evidence. And nbc news has learned that federal agents apparently found a link between the couple accused of carrying out the attack and isis. Reporter as this grieving city gathered overnight, we also heard for the first time from those who rushed towards the gunfire. The smell of gunpowder in the air. Reporter lieutenant mike madden was one of the first officers inside the Inland Regional Center the morning of the attack. Was unspeakable, the carnage we were seeing. The number of people who were injured and unfortunately already dead. And the pure panic on the face of those individuals. Reporter carnage that police and federal agentses say was a military style attack carried out by syed farook and Tashfeen Malik. This took days, weeks, months to plan out. This is nothing impulsive about this shooting. Reporter investigators continue to pore over evidence pulled from the couples redlands home where theres evidence that farook had been talking to people overseas who showed an interest in radical jihad. But the fbi has learned that the couple tried to cover their digital footprint. As investigators try to understand why, so does farooks family. His brotherinlaw sat down overnight with nbcs lester holt. Did somebody brainwash him . Reporter why would the couple choose to carry out this attack and leave behind their 6monthold daughter. God gives you the gift of a daughter, you left that kid behind. What did you achieve . I dont know what message they left. Reporter questions and grief that still fill this tightknit community. Again, recapping the new information just coming in here, federal agents have apparently found a Facebook Post on an account from Tashfeen Malik, the woman involved in the attack, pledging her allegiance to the leader of isis just before the attack.
