Tell us about the injuries. A couple people were in the office at the time. One person was trapped underneath the car and the desk. They were extricated and transported to the hospital. That was the most serious injury traumatic injury what we would call prior to two. Not life threatening . Not life threatening. Then we had the driver of the car and two or three other people in the office were trapt ed ed. We evaluated six or seven others and they refused transport. Do you have any idea what caused the car to lurch forward. I dont have any idea. Theres not much of a barrier. Theres a sparking space, a cement sidewalk and the gratszssy area and the building. We asked psychiatrist Joshua Weiner about what families should do who are dealing with a similar situation dr. Weiner at what age do kids generally identify themselves as gender dysphoria . It can vary. There are some kids at very young ages even the ages of four five six, who will start to feel like they dont match their gender their gender doesnt match their biological sex. For others it starts to happen when theyre in teens but this can be a very fluid thing. Theres an interesting study thats shown that for kids that have gender dysphoria, only 20 of them will be adults with gender dysphoria. So this can be something that some kids outgrow, so to speak. How can their parents know theyre going through this . A lot of times parents will know because the kids will want to dress like the opposite sex. Theyre going to identify with characters in movies that are the opposite sex. Theyll want to basically be and behave like the opposite sex. Should they encourage this . I dont think they necessarily need to encourage it but i dont think they need to be critical and discourage it. This is very hard for parents and if parents are struggling with trying to figure out how to navigate through this process, that i no ed to seek help and guidance from a professional who has experience in dealing with these issues. Are there places in our area that are helpful other than psychiatrists such as yourself . Were fortunate in this Area Medical Center has a program called the center for gender and Sexuality Development program. And this is one of the only centers in the United States that actually specifically treats kids and families with this issue. So i think people in this area have a very good resource to go to Childrens NationalMedical Center get information, get help there and then go from there. We spent an afternoon recently at a local gymboree with play instructor vicki couch. Meet khai. On a recent trip to gymboree he tested his skills in gymnastics. I can do it. Hi khai look where you are. Reporter this was his first time here and he was anxious to try out everything. Khai want to go do something . That probably meant i want to keep doing this because no sooner had he said those words that he was ready to pull back up and hang from the bars again. Khai was born with down syndrome and hes finally learning to community kate after years of neglect. His social worker says he came into foster care at five. Hes been with us for two years and he came in due to his diagnosis of down syndrome. He needed additional services. Lets go meet miss vicki. Hi khai hi. You ready to play basketball khai. Can you make a basket . Good job more balls to play basketball, khai . Vicki couch is the play and music director at this gymboree and she realized playing ball would be something khai would like. Those who know khai say hes a wonderful youngster who is finally catching up developmentally. As a young child he no doubt had little stimulation or encouragement to develop the skills they now see hes capable of. He was completely nonverbal. He was not potty trained. Just completely different. You know just did not have this bubbly bright personality that he does now. Down the slide you made it yeah you made it. Since hes been with us, hes expanded his vocabulary so he is receiving speech services. Weve got him connected with sign Language Services so thats been able to open up his communication. And khai is afraid of nothing. Always willing to try something new and comment on it. He loves to learn, loves to play just loves time at school. And while hes learning lots in school he would no doubt learn even more in a home with a loving family. We are looking for a forever family. Ideally we are looking for a twoparent household, specifically people that have experience with children with Developmental Disability or down syndrome. Additional children in the home would be fantastic, he does emulate other children and learn from them. Here at gymboree khai showed off his dancing skills as miss vicki filled the room with bubbles. We feel that if hes surrounded by love and by people he will grow tremendously. Not only in his speech but with his community, with his school and just grow and develop into a wonderful adult. But the chain is testing the leafy green in breakfast bowls in Southern California. Mcdonalds corporation is working to shake its junk food image the bowls will cost you about four bucks.
