Fairfax Police Officer carl jenkins says its about safety, after 24 crashes involving jaywalkers and bikers near the metro station. Safety, thats the biggest thing. We get complaints about vehicles traveling too fast, we cant cross the street. Thats the latest from the live desk. Police arrested a man following a chase on the bw parkway in anne arundel county. Chopper 4 flew over the scene this morning. It was near the route 32 exit in laurel. Maryland state police said an nsa officer tried to pull over the man for reckless driving. The driver injured an nsa officer and nearly hit a barricade. The driver was going northbound on the southbound lanes. Everything is back open at this time. Police want to know why someone targeted a man in a driveby shooting in silver spring. This happened around 7 00 last night outside apartments on bradford road not far from piney branch road. A neighbor said the victim ran to a building banging on doors for help but no one responded. One man told us police had been called to the complex a lot recently. Theres been some problems going on in and out. The police has been here a couple times, but i dont know. Problems between who . I dont know, the people i cant tell. Montgomery county police dogs worked in the pouring rain trying to track the scent of the gunman but had no luck. The victim is now out of the hospital and staying with a friend. A d. C. Community worried about safety after the murder of a market store owner can voice their concerns to the police chief today. James oh died after an attack inside his gold Corner Grocery and deli store in northwest washington back on july 4th. Surveillance video captured the attack. He and his wife ran the store on colorado avenue and 14th street for 20 years. In just a few hours, police chief kathy lanier will lead a safety meeting at the Fourth District Police Station on Georgia Avenue. It begins at 2 00 this afternoon. Just about an hour ago Prince Georges County broke ground on a stateoftheart Public Safety complex. It will be the hub of a 911 backup centering and new Emergency Operations center as well. The building on anchor street that housed the old 911 dispatch center will be razed. Its scheduled to open in the late winter or early spring of 2015. In just a few hours there will be a first of its kind meeting to make getting around our area a little easier. Transportation official its will meet this afternoon and talk about extending bus service from maryland into d. C. The d. C. Street car system could also be extended up Georgia Avenue into silver spring, and new Metro Bus Service to be added as well. The goal is to get more people to use Mass Transportation to get from one area to another. Well, today more than two dozen homeowners in Prince Georges County learn whether theyll need a new place to live. The county is expected to tell neighbors whether it will pay to fix damage from a may landslide. Heavy rains called a slope to fail destroying roads and utility lines. Residents had to evacuate, leaving their homes for weeks. Officials say it will cost more than 20 million to fix the area but the county could decide its better to pay people for their homes and knock them all down instead.
