Wendy . Thank you, blaine. Now to the leak of Donald Trumps partial tax return from 2005. It shows he earned about 152 million. Paid 38 million in taxes that year. That is a tax rate of roughly 25 . The return was stamped client copy. And it was obtained by investigative journalist kevin j. Johnston. He shared it with the Rachel Maddow show. The white house confirmed the numbers, but dismissed their significance. So, the big question is, who leaked that tax return and why . Heres what we know. The only people with access to a return would be mr. Trump, his family, his accountant or the irs. Johnston says the pages were sent to his house in a plain envelope with a westchester, new york, post mark. Back in october, New York Times received a similar anonymous leak. A portion of mr. Trumps state tax filings from 1995. That envelope came from an address in trump tower. As for johnston, he won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting for the New York Times on tax loopholes. He also published a biography of mr. Trump in august. And has reported extensively on trump for more than 20 years. Just hours before the president s revised travel ban in a maryland courtroom. Maryland is one of several states trying to stop that ban. That ban targets people from six predominantly muslim countries. And the judge who heard evidence in this case from both the government and the aclu said at the end of the day he needs to think about it. This is very important that were here. Tomorrow when this executive order is supposed to be in effect, that well have an injunction blocking it. Our constitution doesnt permit anyone, any Government Official to do what President Trump has attempted to do here. Our Team Coverage of this cold weather is now focusing on our beloved Cherry Blossoms and whether the blooms will survive the cold so we can enjoy their beauty. News 4 Kristin Wright talked and what is the prognosis . Its not all bad. Its not great. Obviously, it is so cold out here and as doug just said, were going to see more cold weather. So, the prognosis is not great for the yoshino cherry trees. Those are the ones that are really in trouble and really struggling. But there are other types of cherry trees in the tidal basin that might be okay. That might be all right once they bloom later when spring makes its real appearance. There may be hope after all for at least a few of our iconic Cherry Blossoms at the tidal basin. The National Park service says even though the cold is killing off a significant amount of the blossoms, there are other types of cherry trees that are still expected to bloom in a few weeks. And horticulturist says that the buds that havent bloomed very much may also survive. Hes studying those blossoms now. There might be, you know, enough of these green buds that are still waiting to come out and enough of the backups coming up that we will still get a spectacular show. Its so bitterly cold and icy in washington that few people can even bear to walk around, stop and look at the Cherry Blossoms that tidal basin. The fact is, so far this year, theres not much to see. This family from texas is realizing that now. I saw maybe two yesterday that were kind of bloomed. But covered in snow but the rest dont look so well. Well take some photos. Probably not of the Cherry Blossom trees, though. A lot of snow, though. Reporter the Cherry Blossoms are like a right of passage to spring in washington, but this last bite of winter is killing many of them. Today the National Park service announced that the damage is done and its widespread. Studying blossoms cut from the trees to see if buds that are still in the early stages of growth might survive the cold. Hes watching closely over the next 24 to 48 hours. At least be able to tell whats going to bloom and whats not going to bloom. And were going to be, basically, very progressive and turning pink and then white or theyre going to be turning brown. Place that would require individuals in the medical profession, educators and others who learn of a threat against a child to report that threat not only to law enforcement, but to the state Attorneys Office to allow us as many opportunities as possible to do what we can to protect our children. Reporter kayla was suffocated by her mother. Today spoon pleaded guilty to suffocating kayla and her 1yearold son, aden, in september of 2014. Kaylas family supports the prosecutors efforts to change the law to protect innocent children. I know my granddaughter is in heaven and shes safe. Also in Prince Georges County police are trying to find who it was that shot a man. A man who was then able to get into his car and drive away for help. Officers got a call about a man lying on the ground at a neighborhood near Mccarthy Park in Capital Heights last night. When they arrived, the guy wasnt there. Turns out, he drove himself to a nearby 7eleven. Thats where an officer treated the man on the scene. Right now, that man is said to be in critical condition. Meantime, detectives are trying to figure out exactly what happened. For the second time in three months, the Federal Reserve has raised the Interest Rate. Interest rates going up 0. 25 . The bank would be funded with public tax dollars, as well as private sector money. With the green bank, that money will actually get paid back. But the governments going to take some of the risks. Brendans family feels the others allegedly involved should be punished. Thats why they stood outside the Prince William county courthouse asking for justice.
