Lets show the nra were not afraid of them; as democrats, as americans, as parents. Im Kathleen Matthews and i approve this message. And now your storm team4 forecast. We finally have some nice weather to talk about. Saw a pretty good day out there today. Average High Temperature this time of year 48. Thats right around where we were. Right around 48 degrees. A mixture of sun and clouds during the day. It was still cool but all in still dealing with mostly cloudy skies. Winds out of the north at 13 miles per hour. That northerly component always giving us some cooler weather and thats what were seeing. 37 in hagerstown, 36 in cumberland, 39 in leesburg. We are going to dip tonight. And as we do, we will see once again the potential for icing overnight tonight, maybe some slick spots early tomorrow morning. Nothing on the radar, no rain or snow to talk about. Were not even going to see a chance of this really until possibly on sunday but even thats going to be just a light chance. We have a storm system up to the north. Lets widen out. You can see the snow coming off the great lakes. Thats the cold air trying to move into our area. It will move into the midatlantic and the northeast. Temperatures tomorrow about five to ten degrees cooler than where they were during the afternoon today. Tomorrow will be a cool day but still not too bad. Starting off on a cool note. 30 degrees in d. C. 36 in frederick. Manassas coming in around 28 degrees. Thats why we are predicting the potential for a little bit of ice. So maybe some icy spots early between 7 00, are getting on the bus. Temperatures around 30 degrees. By 3 00 in the afternoon it will be a chilly day. Temperatures around 39. Make sure the kids have the coats for recess. They will need them across the region tomorrow. Now, the impact that tomorrows forecast has, very low impact. Again, chilly, but with lots of sunshine. A pretty nice february afternoon. A little below average but all in all not too bad. How about the storm for next week . Everybody is asking me about this. The first thing is first. Its going to be very warm out ahead of the storm. Anything that falls first i think will fall as rain. Here comes the storm out of the pacific. Still a long time to watch this storm system, but it does dive to the south and any time that happens, its able to pull in a lot of moisture from the gulf. And, again, as weve known from the past storms over the past winter, the gulf has been open for business. Weve seen a tremendous amount of moisture coming out of the gulf. Thats what well see again. The onset of this looks like we hey have some cold air so it might be snow to start and then go over to rain and then possibly if enough cold air is on the backside we could see some significant snow, but the pattern is right for a storm but we have no idea if its rain or snow just yet. Lots of time to watch this, so if you hear anybody telling you were getting this much snow next week, dont listen because i guarantee you it will be changing. 39 tomorrow, 42 on friday. Right now i just want you to focus on the weekend. 67 on saturday. 60 on sunday. We like that. Thank you, doug. Reporting live in Upper Marlboro, Tracee Wilkins. Thank you. Metro is reminding its train operators to pay extra attention when opening the doors. There have been at least three recent cases when doors were opened on the wrong side. Transportation reporter adam tuss broke that news on twitter today, and he joins us live from the smithsonian station with what metro is doing to try to make sure it doesnt happen again. Adam . Reporter thats right, doreen. You know, in each of these cases it was as simple as pressing the wrong button on the train. Now, no one was hurt, but metro train operators are watched closely. Take a look. This is what its like when the metro door opens on the wrong side. Not exactly what you want to be seeing as a rider. Those were previous incidents. Now new problems. Three over the course of less than two weeks. January 30th at smithsonian and two wrong door incidents on february 9th, one at grosvenor and one at prince georges plaza. Riders weighing in. Maybe it means you should have an automatic system in place that prevents the operator from opening the door on the wrong said. Reporter operators are now being told to pause at stations for up to five seconds so they remember what side of the train the doors need to open. If an operator opens the doors on the wrong side, not only does that present a safety hazard, but the operator is then required to stop the train, get out, walk around the entire train, make sure nothing has fallen out so that thein proceed safely forward, and that safety walkaround takes time and can cause delays. Metro tells us that operators open the doors in trains about 245,000 times on a typical work day. Chief spokesperson dan stessel sent us a statement saying when an action is repeated that frequently the potential exists for muscle memory to take over and the task to occur without conscious effort. Rail supervisors are being told to increase their monitoring of trains. Now, metro says if train operators arent pausing long enough at certain stations, theyll be given a violation, jim.
