They have identified that fence jumper. His name is Joseph Caputo. We dont have an address for him, an age and certainly, we dont know why he jumped the fence, but indeed he did earlier this afternoon and i had this intense moment. An otherwise uneventful thanksgiving day in d. C. , this type of incident that happened all too often happened again at the white house. This man came to see the sights when the jumper started winding his way through the crowd. Climbing. He was climbing like crazy and then he was all, like, woo the unidentified man was arrested before he made it to the executive mansion and police immediately cleared Lafayette Park across the street. Incidents like this brought in highprofile security and it was a different feel. In georgetown, fewer people than usual and there is a Police Presence near the four seasons hotel. They were responding to a tradition and free food for First Responders and other Public Servants who arent working today. Some of them ordered the food and they come and pick it up 50 at a time and we just have the s. W. A. T. Team here. Another tradition for some, visiting the smithsonian museum. They were open today and while terrorism was on peoples minds that didnt keep them away. We didnt want it to stop us and while the sentiment isnt unanimo unanimous, and we had family in town last week and they opted not to come. Reporter you know, chris, Law Enforcement officials are confirming to us tonights that that ford taurus was found in the corner sparking space. Behind me here is that of the white house fence jumper Joseph Caputo. That car had connecticut license plates with on it. Secret Service Officials were out here at around 3 30 this afternoon and they were investigating that vehicle. They were taking pictures. They openeded up the doors. They went in and outside of the car. They even popped the trunk and looked throughout the trunk, as well. It was around 4 30 when that taurus was loaded on to a flatbed and towed away. To give you some context, were about three and a half miles away from the white house. Its still unclear as to how caputo got there, but eric, that is part of what officers are investigating right now. Meagan fitzgerald, thank you very much. This is the first time somebody managed to make it over the fence since federal crews started making security upgrades to the white house perimeter over the summer. New spikes atop the fence went up in july. The National Park service is still in the process of enhancing other security points around the white house. Overseas, the alert level in brussels has been lowered by a notch. The Prime Minister says theres no longer an imminent threat to belgium and it didnt explain how and why that changed. Tonight a maryland family is thankful to learn two missing siblings in their 70s are safe.
