Sources tell news 4 investigators believe this began sometime wednesday afternoon, continued through the night and ended thursday afternoon when a fire was set apparently to cover up the murders. Found dead inside the house, a man, his wife their 10yearold son and the familys housekeeper. Sources say investigators believe the suspects had knowledge of this family and how they lived their daytoday lives. Sources believe that people in the house were bound and threatened until the man got what they were looking for. Now, there are two security cameras over there. His wife jody died inside their home on ridge drive in rockville. Montgomery county states attorney mccarthy said hell try the case himself. Prosecuting 31yearold Scott Tomaszewski two counts of firstdegree murder. Horrible crime. Wonderful people and family and been involved in this case from the very moment that this case was reported to us. Reporter the family hired wellknown rockville defense lawyer kudel trying to have thrown out of evidence the confession tomaszewski made in alaska to the vilardo murders. Obviously we have to look at all of the surrounding circumstances of that statement, what his condition was, what his mental status was at the time of the statement. Then the past april there was a burglary across the street on ridge drive. Detectives discovered that Tom Tomaszewski pawned items stolen in the burglary. He left with his parents for an alaskan cruise just hours after the murders. Police arrested him in juneau and found money in his possession with blood on it. Reporter she asked that we not show her face on camera and refer to her as nelly and said shes owned a cleaning company where her friend vera worked. For the first time tonight were hearing that veras husband went looking for his wife at the savopoulos home just hours before the fire and had an eerie encounter. Last wednesday, nelly says vera told her she wanted to work at the savopoulos home to get off early. Send me a text message that shes not coming with me. That shes going to washington. Reporter that was the last message she received from vera. Nelly says that around 9 00 that night Savvas Savopoulos left her a voice message. She said the tone didnt seem right. It said i hope you can get this message. My wifes sick. My son is sick. And vera offered to stay overnight. But her phone is dead and we dont have any charge that fit her phone. Would you please call her family and let them know that shes here with us. Reporter nelly didnt get the message until thursday morning which is why she says ve ares husband was concerned for her whereabouts and went looking for her. So when he knocked on the front door he told me that he got kind of sense like somebody was like standing in front of the door inside. So he he tried to knock more and he went around back in the kitchen. You know . The garage area. When he went around savopoulos call him and tell him, oh i forgot to call you last night but vera is okay. Reporter 30 minutes later, thursday morning, nelly say said she received a text message from amy savopoulos. Im making sure youre not coming to my house today. Reporter less than four hours later, the house was fire and four victims were found dead inside. People nelly say were like family to her. Now she is left wondering who could do this and why. Police of veras husbands conversation with salvevvas before the fire and declined to discuss it. Nelly said shes focused on helping nellys family preparing to lay her to rest. Must have been devastateing for her. What kind of sense did you get from personally she was touched by this . Military personnel who report rape and Sexual Assault are 12 times more likely to face retaliation than to see their attacker convicted. That is according to a new report released today by human rights watch. Lieutenant colonel teresa james participated in the study. She is the highest ranking officer to come forward with her rape in the National Guard. As she first told the news 4 iteam she believes that destroyed her 34year career. But she told us shes going to appear before a Judicial Proceeding Panel at the pentagon tomorrow as part of an independent review on how the military investigates sex assaults and retaliation. This report calls on the military to sfrengen its whistleblower protection act so it can punish Service Members who retaliate against anyone who reports a rape or Sexual Assault.
