Police tell us that the man who was shot and wounded is an adult. For them that means someone over 18 and that they believe the person who shot him was also just, you know walking on the street at the same time. It is unclear the circumstances that led to the shooting at this point. Now, we are told homicide detectives are here on the scene. You can see them over there as they do crime scene processing and trying to figure out exactly what happened here but i can tell you there were a lot of people this is a very popular Shopping Center, people walk from those houses over there, those neighborhoods to this side. Just a few steps from home a busy area in broad daylight somebody attacked a Wakefield High School student yesterday. This woman says she never feels unsafe when she walks her dogs along south Four Mile Run drive so shes surprised to hear a teenager was groped here monday. I didnt know that. And we always walk around here and i never feel felt dangerous around here. Reporter police say the young woman was headed home from nearby Wakefield High School when she was sexually assaulted around 4 15 p. M. It handed within sight of these apartments, a gas station, and a bike path. A 17yearold High School Senior walking home she was approached from behind and had her butt grabbed. Very scared and frightened she ran to her residence, contacted her mother who then called police to inform us of the situation. Reporter police say the suspect also fled run eight way toward the gas station. No witnesses have come forward yet, but police are hoping in this busy area someone might remember seeing the man. Police also have some advice to help others avoid becoming a target. They say the teen was wearing ear buds in both ears when she was grabbed. She probably never heard him coming. A bill that would reduce the suicide epidemic among veterans is now awaiting president obamas signature. The senate today passed the clay hunt Suicide Prevention bill. Its named after a veteran who took his own life back in 2011. That bill requires the department of Veterans Affairs to submit to independent reviews of its Suicide Prevention programs and to make those programs more readily available on a centralized website. The bill also offers financial incentives to psychiatrists who agree to work for the va. Experts say 22 veterans a day take their own lives. Just moments ago we learned who will be filling in as interim superintendent for the remainder of the school year. And this school board really did not have a clear answer and reporters asked again and again why is dr. Starr leaving. As for the Outgoing School superintendent he says his resignation today should have no effect on the 154,000 students in Montgomery County public schools. Id like to think that our kids think about the superintendent beyond anything other than snow days. Reporter it ends on friendly terms. The board of education accepted the resignation of dr. Joshua starr as of february 16th and agrees to pay him through the end of his contract which is june 30th. We will make sure that we continue to the work that dr. Starr and his staff and the staff that on goes in our schools. Reporter so why did the board feel that it was time for a change . There were reports that dr. Starr lost the support of four of the eight Board Members who thought the superintendent did not do enough to close the achievement gap between white and minority students. The message i hope would be one that dont get into a fight that you know youre not going to win, right. Hernandez is on trial for the murder of semipro ball player odin lloyd. 18 jurors were picked for case. The final jury and alternates will be randomly chosen before deliberations begin. A metro track geometry vehicle which studies the rails gave read eight long some sections of track that further manual testing is needed. Metros chief spokesperson dan stessel says you see us putting in speed restrictions as an additional safety step during a season where the potential for weatherrelated cracked rails exist. But in fairfax and Prince William counties they can keep students from going to class if their parents dont comply. Many parents sieger to keep this from happening to your child. Doctors say that can start with protecting schools from the measles virus. The schools are clean. After an infectious person leaves their location, the virus can live up to two hours on its own. They say it was an inflight selfie that caused a plane crash that killed two people. That crash happened near denver last may. The National Transportation safety board investigated and has just released its report. Investigators say a go pro camera recorded the pilot and passenger taking flash photos with their cell phones during various points in the flight including takeoff. They say the flash likely distracted and disoriented the pilot which caused him to crash. Investigators say they found no mechanical issues with that plane. A student art project is apparently the cause of a massive traffic shutdown in atlanta. Georgia State University says the tubeshaped device spotted on a bridge boov downtown connector was student camera. The school says it was one of 18 set up around the city for an art project. Its now working with police to remove the others. Police wound up shutting down traffic for hours yeld and a bomb squad was called in to detonate the camera. Thats kind of a mess. Yeah.
