In ukraine the fighting wound down as a peace deal was planned, but warning Vladimir Putin not to menace any nato nations. The alliance okd a Rapid Reaction force. To add to the pressure, put on by sanctions we want to make it crystal clear, we mean what he we say. No nato plan is so far stopped putin. President obamas plan to destroy isis is a work in progress. Even the paent next step bombing in syria could take a while longer, say the experts. Zishgs Team Coverage continues with meet the press moderator chuck todd. The president said three times the goal is to degrade and destroy isis. Is this all just cleaning up after the no strategy . It did feel like that a little bit. You know, dont forget, before today it also said he said that destroy and dismantle, but then he said, you know, to where they become manageable. Left that part out this time. No ambiguity this time. To me he is using the same language that both bush and obama have used against al qaeda. By the way, that was sort of america being put on war footing to deal with al qaeda. Thats what it feels like he is inching us closer to, and thats frankly the top of my agenda with him in this interview, which is to simply say is that what you are doing . Are you trying to prepare the country that despite what you wanted to do, which is to get us off of a war footing, that were going back on to a war footing to deal with this threat . Lets talk about your interview, your upcoming interview with the president. He has half a dozen Foreign Policy crisis level issues, problems at home in ferguson and immigration problems. What are you going to ask him about . Lets not forget the ebola outbreak, which is something actually the i know a lot of Obama Administration officials fear they basically have to be responsible for so it doesnt go global. Oh, by the way, theres an election in two months, where his name is not on the ballot, but his agenda is. His the future of the rest of his presidency is. It is one of these the timing of this interview is at a precarious moment for him as he tries to figure out how to rally the world and the country hinted an isis strategy because is he going to have to go to companying. Congress is going to have to approve what he is trying to do because this isnt pinpricks that theyre trying to do now. Theyre looking at a big global fight it looks like. At least as far as targeting these folks. Sflo do you think some of them still feel burned by when he pushed for the air strikes in syria and then pulled back at the very last minute . I think some of the hawks feel burned. Some of the loudest voices. Thats why i think that folks, you know, sometimes the only people talking about isis in congress are the ones that are the more hawkish. What i found interesting this week there was a political debate that took place in North Carolina with an incumbent senator and one of the closest senate races in the country, and the isis question came up. They didnt want to answer it. I didnt know how i would vote. You know why . Because the public is a little concerned. Think about this. I got one of these. A tim russert special statistic we came up with. 25 years since the first gulf war. We havent gone one calendar year without military action in the middle east. For 25 years. Thats a question of what its gotten us, and i think the public has that fatigue over time. I think thats another question for the president to address. Chuck todd, congratulations on your new role. Thank you. Well, its here at home, right . Right here at the home base. No pressure either, right . Not not at all. Not at all.
