Reporter new details have raised new questions today in the shooting death of 18yearold Michael Brown. The officer that was involved in the shooting of Michael Brown was darren wilson. He has been a Police Officer for six years and has had no disciplinary action taken against him. He was treated for injuries, which occurred on saturday. Reporter while we now know the officers name who killed the teenager, police also revealed what may have happened before the shooting. The Ferguson Police Department Released this Surveillance Video that indicates Michael Brown fit the description of a suspect in a strong arm robbery at a Convenience Store according to the police report. Brown is seen grabbing a pack of cigars and heading to the exit where he is confronted by a clerk. No justice. No peace. Reporter releasing the name of the officer has done little to ease tensions. We got to do something about this. Reporter and the lease of the Surveillance Video has raised more questions and angered the community. Michael browns family and attorney released a statement saying they are outraged. There is nothing based on the facts that have been placed before us that can justify the execution style murder of their child by this Police Officer. The man now in charge of keeping the peace, Highway Patrol captain Ronald Johnson is from ferguson. In our anger, we have to make sure that we dont burn down our own house. We dont go down there and vandalize our own buildings. Reporter the governor is promising answers. Nothing should deter figuring out how and why mhael brown is killed. Reporter he told the crowd this is not a black and white issue. This is our opportunity to show you that you can trust us. Reporter while the struggle for peace continues in the community. Its unclear how this alleged robbery led to the shooting death of 18yearold Michael Brown. The police say that the officer that shot brown didnt know brown was a suspect in a robbery at the time. He has a clean record. In february he was given an award for extraordinary he effort in the line of duty. The police chief described the 28yearold as charming and respectful. He says wilson is devastated by the shooting. In 1970 there were only a few hundred black residents there. 30 years later that had changed. More than half of the residents were africanamerican by 2000, and today twothirds of the population in ferguson is black. Thats led to tensions between the people and the police force, which is predominantly white. There are only three africanamericans on the police force. New cell phone pictures here show the flames tearing through a home in the lateensville area last night. Weve learned an iraq war veteran who lost both his legs in the war was rescued from this home. It was a tough scene to look at. The crash, well, it happened in front of the fire station, so witnesses did not have far to go for help. I heard a crash behind me, and i turned around. He was walking down connecticut avenue when the flat bed truck hit a rider with a moped just she was just a little tiny person on a little tiny moped. The crash happened in front of this firehouse, engine 31. Welsh wasted no time and ran if nor fep. They were working on her immediately. Four of them, they were trying to get an iv in. They were doing cpr. They were doing other things. A truck was heading south and collided with the moped. The problem, he says, the truck was headed in the wrong direction. While theres no specific information about the actors case, medical experts say those two conditions are often linked. Erica edwards has more on the findings. A diagnosis of parkinsons disease can leave patients reeling. The neurodegenerative disorder causes involuntary muscle movement, and theres no cure. Now a new Study Confirms depression is more common among those newly diagnosed with parkinsons disease. Youre visiting with someone newly diagnosed with parkinsons disease, its not uncommon that you might find a history that they have also experienced episodes of depression. Robin williams had been vocal about his battle with depression. Theres no way to know whether his diagnosis of parkinsons played any role in his suicide. Although clinical depression and parkinsons disease are two distinct medical conditions, experts say suffering from both may worsen symptoms. In the case of parkinsons disease, we know that there is a loss of cellsn areas of the brain that make dopamine, and the link between parkinsons and depression is not fully understood from a pathological standpoint. However, we do know that theyre clearly linked. Linked, but its important to note neither condition causes the other. I can tell you that this is the house here that you can see officers at in the pickwick square apartments off of South Addison road in district heights. What we know thus far is that three people were shot in and around that house this afternoon. That one of those people is dead. We do not know the ages, sexes, anything like that of the three people. We dont know the circumstances under which the shootings took place except that there was a barricade here this afternoon as police call it which means that, as you can see, theres yellow tape throughout the courtyard of this section of the apartment complex. It is not clear whether police were here for an extended period of time and then there was a shooting or the shooting occurred before they arrived here. Again, we have very little information. Top brass from the Police Department is here on the scene as well as the major crimes detectives you see there around the area. We are hoping to get an update very shortly on exactly what happened here this afternoon, who these people were, whether or not they lived here, and where inside this house the shooting took place. Live in district heights, jackie benson, news 4. Jackie, thank you. Heres a security alarm go off. He grabbed his gun, opened the garage door, and he sees someone heading towards him, and he shoots. It wasnt a burglar. It was his own daughter. I can see both sides of it. I can see where Something Like that could happen. It recently installed security systems. Those systems sent an alert to your phone when a door opens in your home, and heats what alerted the deputy that his garage door had opened. The deputy called 911, reported a shooting, and then crashed his suv while rushing his daughter to the hospital just a few miles away. You can only imagine how desperate this officer was to get his daughter to the hospital. Were told he ran off the road and hit this pillar. That caused this brick wall here to crumble. News 4 obtained these photos showing the deputys suv after the violent crash. The fire and rescue department then took the teen to the hospital. The High School Student is expected to make a full recovery. That sheriffs deputy has been identified as easton mcdonald. He has been with the Loudoun County Sheriffs Office for the last 13 years. He has now been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted. The case will be reviewed by the Commonwealths Attorneys Office to see if any charges will be filed. A Wounded Warrior and his wife are grateful to be alive tonight after this awful fire. Before fire crews could arrive, neighbors helped to get the couple out safely. News 4s Chris Lawrence spoke with the soldiers wife this afternoon. He joins us live from lleytonsville. Chris. Reporter thats right, door even. This family is just completely devastated by this fire, but as his wife jessica basically told me earlier today, you know, this is a man who. This is what the fire looked like from chopper 4 last night. The family says they think it started in the garage, and then right in their face. Jessica told me that within minutes she was swallowing smoke and couldnt see two feet in front of her. She was exhausted by the time she got her husband to the front door. Neighbors had to help pull them to safety from there and help save their dog. Here is what the house looks like now today. Her husband spent a year and a half healing and rehabilitating. They just got to this home in march, and they were lucky enough that the landlord actually installed special stair lifts that allow captain cline to get down to the basement. They were able to we can have the dogs, and we were really lucky to find it, and i dont know that we were going to find Something Like this again. You got to hope that theyre going to be able to get something some people have already started to volunteer to try to help them out. He was injured in a part of afghanistan called the argandah valley. Its a part of kandahar i have been to several times with a lot of Army Soldiers over the years. Its a very lush part of afghanistan that some people call the vietnam of that country. He was basically about seven months into a ninemonth deployment just two months from going home with the ied just xwleelgts ripped his life apart. Theyve been through a lot over the lt year and a half trying to get to this point. Now to lose his home is just devastating. Thank you, chris. People getting home across our region tonight have a nightmare commute story to tell. All because of an extremely rare problem according to metro tonight. Blue line service was suspended at the height of the morning rush due to a crack in the third rail in arlington. Transportation reporter adam tuss asked why the problem wasnt detected sooner. Reporter at first it was a mystery. Then it became a trend. Five separate blue line trains all breaking down after equipment which connects to the high voltage third rail was knocked loose. Finally the problem isolated, our cameras rolling while workers fixed a cracked third rail just outside the Arlington Cemetery station. We sent out dozens of track inspectors and suspended service on the blue line to prevent more trains from becoming damaged. Now tracks are common on the main line rails, and not on the electrify third rail. You might be asking yourself shouldnt metro have caught the problem with the third rail earlier . Well, it turns out that the first couple of trains that actually went through the section of the blue line made it through okay. The first thing this morning. Metro says it hasnt had a cracked third rail in well over a year. Do you go throughout the whole system now and take a look to see if any we walk every inch of this system at least twice a week. I feel like the former management owners of this property just wanted to view us over, just take the money and they didnt care less about what happened to the hundreds of kids living here. The students found a place in Silver Spring which means youll be commuting to college park because he cant afford housing in this area. The building managers have prime locations for students so they can charge something thats not exactly cheaper, and so i dont have enough money to live in the view of the varsity, so i have to go further out. The way that police force behaved was horrible. The truth be told, when you step away from the terror of the moment, there was part of it that was even comical. Last saturday one of the cops on fergusons force shot and killed an 18yearold black kid. The boy was unarmed. The exact circumstances of that shooting are still in question, but two other things are not. One is the longstanding simmering tensions and just bad vibes between the Majority Black Community in ferguson and the police. Only three of those 53 officers are black. Thats a problem waiting to happen, and when it did, the response from the local police was incredibly reflective of mid 20th century municipal racism. That was not reaction to civil unrest. That was overkill in the extreme. Big menacing Armored Vehicles, tear gas, flash grenades, snipers for god sake, cops armed to the teeth threatening reporters and everybody else. It was awful. And it begs the question, where did they get all that stuff . Those cops in ferguson looked every inch like the special forces you expect to see battling terrorists in iraq, not citizens, Hometown Folks exercising their First Amendment rights. One can reasonably conclude that all that heavy armor was not paid for by the 20,000 some taxpayers in ferguson. Heres the part that would be funny if it werent so sad. Have you seen the images from ferguson, the still pick, the tapes, the looks on the faces of those cops . Talk about kids in a toy store. Reminds me when i was 12 my most cherished Birthday Gift was a. 22 rifle. I could hardly contain my excitement. Even when they told me i had to wait several months until squirrel season. I did not kill a squirrel that year. Thank god neither did those cops with their new toys in ferguson kill anybody in the last few days.
