Now to a developing story this evening from our national zoo where one of its wildcats is now missing. A 25pound bobcat got out of its enclosure this morning. Zoo officials are telling people to stay away from the animal despite how friendly it may Mark Segraves live for us at the zoo now where some parts are closed to the public. Reporter good evening, jim. As you said zoo officials made the discovery after a daily head count after breakfast this morning. They say that ali the 25pound bobcat picture, if you will, a large dog, bigger than your afternoon house cat got away. They dont know exactly where she is right now but they are saying if you encounter here, e not approach her. Ali is almost seven years old and was born in the wild. This morning ali returned to the wild, getting out of her enclosure through a small hole in the mesh fencing. The best chances of getting her back home is if she comes back on her own. We very much believe she will want to come back to her exhibit. Theres food, theres shelter, theres warmth at hospitable as possible. Reporter a small area around the great cats exhibit is closed off to the public. Bobcats are indigenous to this area and that means ali probably could survive on her own in the woods surrounding the zoo. This is very survivable habitat. Its one of the things that will make it very difficult for us to ensure that we can find her. Reporter zoo Officials Say its unlikely that ali would attack a human. Its more that youre likely to spook her and make her run a different direction. If somebody got eyes on her, wed want to know that you have eyes on her and then we can come and do the rest. Reporter the reason theyve closed off part of the area around the great cat exhibit is theyve put out bait food, hoping to lure ali back here. They say thats their best hope of catching her. Pets, we chipped so if theyre lost they can be found. Does the zoo do anything like that . Reporter we asked that question. In fact, every animal here at the zoo does have a chip embedded in them but it is not a gps device. Its purely for identification purposes. So if they find ali, they can with 100 certainty determine that it is in fact their missing bobcat but they cannot use those chips to actually locate a missing animal. We also have one from the council on American Islamic relations. Weve seen two phases here. Now Homeland Security says that all the people in that legal limbo have been worked out. Now when people board planes to come into the United States from overseas, theyre stopped before getting on u. S. Bound flights. Now the second phase is trying to get the courts to declare the executive order illegal. The cair lawsuit argues that its discrimination on the basis of religion. Washingt they say separately that the federal immigration law, provision of federal law that says that people can visas based simply on the country where they come from. So for all those reasons, they say this is unconstitutional or illegal discrimination. Washington state says weve been hurt by this because its going to affect our economy and several hightech Companies Including microsoft, amazon and others have said theyll join in this Washington State suit. Weve seen a number of lawmakers on both sides speak out about this, many against it. What role can Congress Play . Congress could try to pass a law that says the president cant do this. The problem with these legal challenges, according to some legal scholars is that courts are reluctant to second guess president s on two issues, National Security and controlling the borders. And these are both the justifications that the Trump Administration has offered for this new executive order. Lets move onto the courts and tomorrow night, big night.
