Reporter we were expecting the director of the liquor board to be facing charges firefighter obstruction of justice and also witness tampering, but he was able to come up with some kind of plea over the weekend so he did not face those charges and they let him go on bond. David sun is the man at the center of an fbi investigation into wrongdoing on the Prince Georges County county liquor board. He served as the director and was once the commissioner. Suns accused of negotiating bribe payments between elected officials, at least one lobbyist and Liquor Store Business owners. Most of the investigation centered around the passing to have liquor sold on sundays. Sun is accused of paying officials to ensure the bill passed and accepting payments from the owners to make sure they got one of the licenses. Sun wore a wire for 11 months, providing hundreds of recordings. According to the affidavit, in one recorded conversation, sun says we got you three. The fbi says that means 3,000. He then instructs the elected official to go to the mens bathroom saying, hes going to hook you up. Thats where the official meets the owner of Central Avenue liquors seen here. Pag pays the elected official money in connection to the sunday sales bill. When the elected official leaves the bathroom, sun says you know how we always say true to our words, man. The u. S. Attorney says it was sun who caused the fbi to quickly clos i and raid the liquor board and businesses. They alleged he was trying to sabotage the case while informing targets about the case, all while still wearing a wire. While the feds agreed to set sun leave, they have a lot of conditions for him to follow while he was under the custody of his wife at home. Just how strict it is, because they believe this man could be a serious jeopardy to their ongoing case. Its the beginning of a busy week in politics as we inch closer to inauguration day. Kushner has been in the spotlight over the past few days because of his own potential conflicts of interest. Now there are questions about whether this appointment will violate the federal antinepotism laws. The closer we get to inauguration, the more important security becomes. A woman in northwest washington is the citys third murder victim this year. News4s Kristin Wright is life for reporter this woman was young, only 23 years old. Her whole life ahead of her until she was found stabbed in this building last night. So here is what we know. Police got a call for an unconscious person in the building. They came and they found her in a hallway. She had been stabbed several times. She was taken to the hospital. Attempts to save her life did not work and she died. We knowthat the young woman did not live in this building. She lived nearby with her brother and very close to her sister. She was in this country with her family, we believe, from togo in west africa. We found out today that her father was once a driver for the ambassador and that the woman who was killed used to live at the embassy. This was some years ago. People over there today, we stopped by. Theyre stunned. Back residents are also uneasy. Back here live, the building has a Security Camera out by the front door. So hopefully that will be helpful to police. They are still looking for whoever did this. And this is the third homicide again in the district so far this year. There is new video today of a person of interest in a new years eve killing. The suspect in last weeks Deadly Florida airport shooting made his First Court Appearance today. 26yearold iraq war veteran Esteban Santiago could face the Death Penalty if convicted. Santiago came to authorities in november, he said that the fbi was forcing him to watch isis videos. His brother says the government failed him. They had responsibilities. They knew he had psychological problems. During the hearing santiago said he understood the charges against him and he remains he without bond. We start with trouble at a brand new Transit Center in hyattsville where riders cant buy start trip cards to ride on all the buses that come through there. A reporter we asked certainly today why you cant get a smart trip card here. You just cant. That doesnt mean that you cant ride a bus here, but it certainly makes it a lot harder to ride. Big brand new Transit Center for buses, brand new sales office, but no smart trip card to use to pay for the buses. It should not open until youre ready to serve the public. Reporter Clarence Meyers is really upset. He just wants a smart trip card to use to pay for his bus which now comes through the Transit Center, but there arent any smart trip cards at the sales office. They dont have a card, so public transparenortation is th thing. Reporter the Transit Center opened on december 22nd. He was told to try a nearby cvs convenience he then called us. Thats why i asked channel 4 to come and do the story because this is unacceptable for commuters. Reporter now, you can still use cash to ride the bus. If you bring an existing smart trip card to the sales office, they can put more value on it. But you just cant get a smart trip card here yet. We contacted the maryland transit administration, which runs this center. They said theyre aware of the issue. I thought i would be able to buy a card and commute. I couldnt do that. Reporter coming up next hour at 6 00, ill tell you how much longer youre going to have to wait before you can get a smart trip card here. Plus, why was there a delay in the first place for having those cards here . Metro riders have become almost numb these days to delays and breakdowns. The Transit Agency says rail cars themselves are a big problem. During a Board Meeting this thursday, metro will report that rail car breakdowns. Statistics show that about four times a day everybody has to be taken off a train somewhere to wait for another one because of issues. Metros currently retiring the oldest rail cars in its fleet, known as the 1,000 series rail cars. Metro tells us all trains are running again after the latest report of smoke inside a tunnel. Fire trucks surrounded the u street car dough sa station. The Transit Agency says the smoke likely came from an insulat insulator. Leesburg, one of the busiest intersections in town. We are hearing it is still partly out of commission. Crews are still on the scene repairing a broken gas line at east market and plaza streets. The work is taking a bit longer than expected. We just got word from alexandria about this mornings fire at the shell station on duke street. Investigators say a malfunctioning furnace is to blame. Duke street was closed near jordan street for a while but it is back open now. A Virginia State delegate from our region has introduced a new bill now that would require a proof of citizenship to register to vote. Republican mark cole is requiring proof of citizenship for anyone registering to vote after january 1st of next year. The rule would apply for federal, state and local elections. It would not apply to anyone already registered to vote in the commonwealth. Similar measures have failed in previous years. The upcoming inauguration may close some city businesses for the day. This homeowner paid thousands on a new floor when the new floor started to pull apart. The company wanted to charge thousands of dollars just to come and look at beginning to separate. We started to notice that where the carpeting comes up into our basement steps, it was separating. Reporter he truly didnt think it was a big deal and simply wanted the flooring company, Flooring America, to come out and fix it. Turns out, it wasnt that simple. We began contacting or attempting to contact the white plains store, didnt have any luck. Left some messages. Then after a while there was not even a voice mail. Reporter we learned that particular franchise closed so tom contacted another Flooring America in the area. They asked for pictures. He sent them off and waited. Waited. We would call and leave messages and so on. Wed get a text or something that said we havent forgot about you. Reporter but did they . It seems like it. Reporter Flooring America did eventually send him this proposal. The labor charge was and the trip to come to maryland from virginia was 35. Tom was floored and let the company know it. Both my wife and i watch channel 4. To tell you the truth we were almost a little bit embarrassed because of some of the very important things you do like helping people with wheelchairs. Reporter we contacted the company to explain toms frustration. Soon was like two hours later. Reporter in a statement, the Company Tells us it does charge a nominal trip fee based on the homeown homeowners location. In this instance we waved all fees for the customer and fixed all the problems with an existing carpet that was unrelated to the flooring he purchased to ensure complete satisfaction. N more than 200 turtles watched up near corpus christi, texas, over the weekend. The cold weather actually paralyzes the turtles, causing them to float to the surface and then wash ashore. Theyre also dealing with Severe Weather on the west coast. Look at this heavy rain. It is causing flooding in parts of california and nevada. The storms toppled tree trees, blocked roads, trapped some people in their homes. Mudslides made roads impassable. More than 1300 homes were evacuated in nevada as more flooding is expected today. Even one of californias giant sequoia trees was no match for the weather. The famous Pioneer Cabin tree rains. The trunks so wide, people in cars could actually go through it. Sequoias are the Worlds Largest trees and can live as long as 3,000 years. Thats sad. One flood. Californias been in a drought. Theyre continuing to get rain. Too much too soon.
