Well, the feds are now taking an interest in the damage that was done to a local mosque. Vandals have now targeted this ivy city mosque twice in a matter of days. News4s Mark Segraves is live in northeast d. C. At the mos tock show us how investigators and leaders there are now handling this. Reporter the ivy city mosque has been in this neighborhood just off new york avenue for nearly 20 years. But after two recent incidents of vandalism, the fbi has now taken notice. The fbi came and visit and they just wanted to make sure that were okay and, you know they looked around they took pictures and they gave me their card in case we need their help. Reporter at first police told those who worship at this mosque the vanld lism was randalism was random and not linked to hate. They thought it was linked to other disturbances in the neighborhood. Now police say theyre unsure of the motive in either incident. The Second Attack beyond destroying holy books and breaking windows. This time a holy picture of the sacred kabba seen in this video was stolen and thats given those who pray here reason to believe theyre targeted. Now that this picture is missing im beginning to think it could have been a hate crime because that picture has a value to the muslims. Reporter today Prayer Services went on as they do every day. Those who worship here say theyre not angry or scared. In fact today they prayed for whoever it was who did this to their house of worship. And we ask him to come we ask him to come here sit with us. Reporter since the mosque opened in 1998 they havent locked the doors. Thats the thing about this mos sk that the doors always open. The Community People can come and go and, you know, take she felt fer its cold. Reporter but now all that has changed. We started locking the doors and i purchased the cameras and were going to install cameras on the inside of the mosque and on the outside of the mosque. Reporter now police are investigating these attacks as a vandalism and burglary and theyre asking anyone who might know anything about these attacks to please give them a call. Funding runs out for agency that protects our nation in less than seven hours if congress doesnt act. Now, the house just wrapped up a vote that would fund the department of Homeland Security but only for less than a month. News4s chris gordon at the live desk with the results of the vote and whats next. Chris . Yeah jim. Bottom line right now they dont have the votes. The last count i got was they had 204 votes. They need 217. Right now what the republicans are trying to do is keep this open still trying to brangwrangle some of those lastminute votes, trying to somehow move the numbers up. Right now theyre in danger of failing to pass their own measure. What it would have done it would have postponed the threat of an actual shutdown so thousands of Homeland Security workers in our area might have been able to breathe easier for at least a few weeks. Earlier today the Senate Approved a 40 billion measure that would fund dhs for the rest of the year. But that doesnt put any restrictions on president obamas executive order on immigration. House republicans want to tie funding Homeland Security to provisions that would block or curtail that order. Again, funding for department runs out at midnight. About 30,000 people would be furloughed. The rest are considered essential, and for them that means working without getting paid. At the live desk im Chris Lawrence. We have more people coming forward saying that a doctor at a facility in Prince William county sexually assaulted them during a routine exam. Tony nguyen was charged with Sexual Battery after a patient came forward last year. Nguyen was a physician at the Patient First on liberia afterin manassas. Police say four more men came forward saying they too, were sexually assaulted by the physician. The alleged assaults happened between july and november of last year. The trial of a local politician whos charged with child molestation is going to be delayed. That trial was set to start this wednesday. But michael gardners attorney has stepped down and the new Attorney Says he needs more time to prepare. Gardner is the former Democratic Party chairman for falls church. Hes accused of abusing two girls at his daughters sleepover in 2012. The owner of the rams head tavern in Anne Arundel County says hell now take on an administrative role after being charged in a case of voyeurism. In a statement today, ryan mulehauser said in part hes sickened this incident has caused pain for others. While i realize there will be time to tell my story through the proper judicial channels i am nonetheless embarrassed and humiliated. He is accused of installing the camera and secretly recording women in a bathroom inside the restaurant last year. One of the Fastest Growing counties in maryland is also facing a growing problem. More and more women are coming forward victims of Domestic Violence. Today news4s Kristin Wright found out how one woman is trying to provide a safe haven. Reporter in Frederick County we learned a startling statistic. More than 30,000 women in the county will be a victim of Domestic Abuse at some point in their lives, and many will never tell. Approximately 80 of Domestic Violence incidents are never reported to the police. Reporter she runs Hartley House in frederick, a place to sleep at night, a place to finally rest a place to figure out how to move forward over a meal. Our caseload is going up. We get about a thousand calls to our hotline a month. Reporter the crisis hotline is staffed 24 7. Just a few workers changing and saving lives. Increasingly so. According to state Police Reported crimes of Domestic Violence are up in Frederick County. 580 in 2011. 626 until 2012. More than 1,300 in 2013. I dont personally think that Domestic Violence is happening more now than it used to happen no. I think that victims are being to are more willing and able to contact Law Enforcement or contact our agency. Reporter and she says a simple questionnaire is helping victims come forward. Police officers responding to Domestic Violence calls across the state ask a series of telling questions including has he ever used a weapon against you . Its an idea that comes up often about people under 21 who pledge to defend this country. American legion a number of people have approached me and basically say if somebody is asked at 18 to risk their life to go overseas and fight that they at least ought to be able to go into the legion or to a restaurant or bar and have a glass of wine or a beer. Reporter the proposal would allow active duty military men and women starting at the age of 18 to drink wine or beer in bars or restaurants in maryland provided they show proof of age and a valid military i. D. Amid strong opposition for some state senator ronald young says he tried to craft the bill to make it easy to swallow. One Committee Member asked why not include nonmilitary forces who also risk their lives Like State Police . They accept members younger than 21. Snat its picking one group when there are others that meet the same criteria. Reporter also federal highway dollars are contingent on states maintaining a minimum age of 21. Thats all well get tomorrow so tomorrow will be even a little cold than it has been across the area today. Storm team 4 radar, a couple snow showers this afternoon, mostly down to the south and east. Those are gone now. That was part of a system that came through. That system provided was some colder air. The next system were looking to see come our way is back toward the west. Look at this. Another snowstorm into arkansas dallas around oklahoma. That same system will move our way and it could give us some moisture on sunday. This is something were going to have to watch here. Saturday morning, 8 00 a. M. Just on the cold side. Well see some clouds during the day tomorrow but also a little built of sun. Not going to help with the temperatures though as we will stay on the cold side all day. Then on sunday morning, notice this. This is around 3 00 a. M. Notice this computer model giving us a little bit of snow back to the west. We wont see much snow out of this but even around the 7 00 hour we could see snow in through portions of Northern Virginia d. C. Metro area too, before changing over to some freezing rain maybe some sleet and eventually rain. But right now not a lot going on. Im going to wait to see, though i bet at 11 00 this is going to change. We will see i think a little more moisture during the day on sunday. As we told you a few minutes ago the republicans did not have the votes to pass that threeweek extension on funding the department of Homeland Security. Well now it is official. The voting is over. They do not have the votes. The measure has failed. What does that mean . It means nearly a quarter of a million employees at the department of Homeland Security are now in a state of limbo. The funding runs out at midnight in a little over six hours from now. Now, what we know now is they came um short. The final word i got was that they needed about 218 to pass. They didnt get close to that. They ended up with about 203 votes. So a lot of lastminute wrangling. Republicans trying to basically kick the can down the curb kick the can down the road for a few weeks, buy some more time to try to work out a deal. The senate had passed full funding for the rest of the year earlier today, but the house just could not get the votes. This was an embarrassing loss for the Speaker John Boehner, who called this vote. Right now what this means for a lot of folks in our area 30,000 dhs employees will be furloughed. Police believe the death this morning of the gunmans mother may have set him off and triggered the rampage that has left a small town in mourning. Officers say Joseph Aldridge went to four different homes in tyrone shooting married couples at each home. All of those people died except for one woman who doctors are still working to save right now. Two children also survived the attacks. Aldrich was later found dead in a neighbor koung ti. He got away from a Family Member during a walk around the lake. We arrived at the lake and there was a dog about 250 feet offshore in the water. Reporter a tenunit team of firefighters from fairfax city and the county joined forces to save the 9yearold beloved family pet. Fairfax fire captain bill betts says after 30 minutes bodie had a happy ending. They navigated through the ice and the water to get over to the dog. They brought the dog over got him um on the ice, we got over the him, got him out of the water. He started wagging his tail and shaking himself off to fly to get try and he was happy to just walk off the ice. It was three weeks ago and this was the scene outside the walmart in the Chantilly Shopping Center after a small fire wutz set near a clothing rack. Police have charmed a 22yearold, Brenton Carter weather that fire. And a maryland woman is under arrest for writing bogus prescriptions for drugs like adderall and hydrocodone. She worked at two doctors offices and wrote 32 fraudulent prescriptions. Investigators say she used the doctors information to write those prescriptions. Its the kind of story that brings a parents throat into their heart. Naylor road at alabama right next to the d. C. Scholars Charter School which is the old stanton elementary school. And we understand that this young man who was shot we heard, in the abdomen, may be as young as 14 years old, which would make him, you know, old enough to be a student, young enough to be a student at this school and this did happen just at dismissal adjacent to the schools playground. Now we are told that young man was conscious and breathing when he left here in an ambulance, which means that there are no homicide detectives here. This is being investigated as what is called a district case meaning that they do not believe the young mans injuries are lifethreatening. You can see mobile crime investigators here on the scene documenting where this happened and investigators in the neighborhood trying to figure out exactly who was involved trying to find a suspect. Also developing tonight, nbc news has learned that Illinois Republican aaron shock has reimbursed his office for 40,000 for his downDownton Abbey abbeystyle decor. Shock had initially used his congressional allowance to make those renovations. That office redesign has led to some questions about how shock has been reporting his spending and his office is conducting a review. Now to the new warning tonight for women in Prince Georges County. Police are on the lookout for a serial attacker. A woman was grabbed while she was walking in bladensburg. Tracee wilkins is there. Reporter this happened just wednesday, just before 8 00 p. M. In the 2,100 block of 54th avenue. This is what police are calling the third attack. At this point they believe they are dealing with a sexual predator. They were just out here in bladensburg in october passing out flyers telling folks about this situation. Now theyre out here yet again canvassing and hoping that theyll be able to find some information that can lead to an arrest. The latest attack happened on 54th avenue but there were two other assaults happened here. Here are the locations. The fist occurred september 8th in 2014 at about 6 45 p. M. , a man sexually assaulted a woman as she walked on a wooded trail in the 5100 block of quincy street. October 20th 2014 8 00 p. M. A man assaulted another woman in the 5800 block of annapolis road. This is a picture of the suspect. This picture was provided by one of the women attacked to the police after one of those two assaults. Now, Prince Georges County police again believe that this man is responsible for all three of these sexual assaults. Again, detectives were out here in october. Passing out flyers, talking with folks in this community, warning women about the fact that they believe they have some man out here attacking women randomly, then also just hoping they can come up with some kind of suspect information. This weekend youll notice more garbage trucks rumbling around town following days of complaints about the lack of snow of pickups after the snow. All weekend the department of public works will be beefing up its staff to help haul all that trash away. Residents all over the city as you said have been filing complaints about the garbage piling up in their alleys. Earlier today we found more than a dozen folks requesting pickups. Dpw says with the frigid temps weve been dealing with its been too cold to melt all the snow and the ice and thats created a dangerous and difficult situation for crews trying to pick up the trash. We have quite a few people out on injury quite a few people getting hurt daily. Yesterday we may have had four getting injured, slip and fall. Probably anywhere 60 to 70 collections so that means theres 30 to 40 thats still out there that weve missed. Were told collectors will be working in 12hour shifts throughout the weekend until everybodys trash is picked up along with extra contract workers, leaf collection crews are also being shifted to this effort to help with the cleanup. Starting monday the mayor says the trash collectors will remove space savers along with garbage. A medical emergency may have contributed to this deadly crash outside of richmond. The driver lost control of his van thursday night, plowed through a home killing the man inside. Police dont know if that man was struck by the car or if he was killed by falling debris. But the driver and the passenger are expected to be fine. Virginia state troopers are trying to figure out what led to a man getting killed by a snowplow in virginia. 44yearold jerry otay was hit walking on lee highway in Washington County last night. That plow was clearing snow from the road at the time. Victims of a nowdefunct Sterilization Program in virginia will soon be compensated for their suffering. The General Assembly is now budgeting 400,000 for the victims to pay each 25,000. More than 7,000 people were involuntary sterilized between 1924 and 1979 as part of virginias eugenics program. A maryland womans surprise find and her attempt to find the owner. A more than decadeold Murder Investigation in Frederick County maryland, is being renewed. 15yearold Stacy Hoffmaster disappeared in october of 1996. Her body was found in a wooded area in frederick two months later. The investigation has remained active but the lead detective is retiring and police are using it as an opportunity to refresh the case. She says its a miracle she even spotted it, a wedding ring on the side of the road previously buried in snow. Now a woman in Hartford County is hoping to track down the owner. She was at the intersection of edgewood road and route 24 behind a man who she says told her he lost something valuable. Something that can never be replaced. Then all of a sudden he turned around to get back in his car and motioned for us to go around him that he had lost his wedding band. Reporter brian says she immediately got out to help but neither could find the ring. Thats because they were in the thick of saturdays winter storm. Then brian says it was around 7 00 wednesday night when she spotted something unusual on her drive home from work. I was sitting at the red light and something caught my eye, i guess the diamonds the car lights were glistening off of it. And i turned around and i looked and i saw it. Reporter most of the snow had melted away by then. Bryant says her only concern now is that the Rightful Owner of that ring comes forward. She says her niece, who was in the car during that ordeal got a good look at the man but bryant did not. Theres serp things in the ring that we can question but that is my biggest fear is giving the ring to someone who it doesnt belong to. Some breaking news on capitol hill tonight. Its looking more and more like hundreds of thousands of Homeland Security employees will not be getting paid as of tomorrow. Twn last hour the house failed to pass a threeweek extension of dhs funding, and now the clock is ticking to make another deal. And in about six hours until that money runs out for Homeland Security so the senate has passed a clean bill that would fund the department through september. But some House Republicans have said that amount to sendurrender. Steve handelsman is live on capitol hill. This is embarrassing for House Speaker boehner.
