Well continue to watch this throughout the night. The hope is pretreated roads in Northern Virginia will hold up to the snow sleet, rain ice tonight. Vdot crews were out in full force for hours getting the streets in arlington, fairfax, Prince William counties. About 500 trucks are out right now ready to retreat roads as the snow falls. Crews will be out again on sunday night as well. They ask everybody to slow down if you have to be out. He spent more than 30 years teaching special education students in bethesda. Tonight that teachers career is over after he was indicted on child pornography charges. Derrick ward is live outside of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School with more. Reporter by all accounts a popular teacher. None of the charges with which he is charged or is facing are believed to have had anything to do with the school. None of this happened on school prop he did make his first appearance today in federal court. Federal prosecutors charged 61yearold peter flynn with one charge of child pornography and one count of distribution of child porn. The charges stem from a search warrant executed at flynns Montgomery County home back in september. The 37year veteran of the County School system has worked at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School since 1978 first as a substitute teacher, he became a special Education Teacher in 1980, a position he held until last september, the same month the search warrant was served at his home. His Attorney Says flynn had been trying to turn himself in before Police Arrested him. We wish they hadnt but and we attempted to head that off because hes been cooperative in trying to contact them. Ive tried to contact as i said in court the Maryland State Police unit and the troopers involved and they simply refused to call us back. Reporter a spokesman for the School System says that flynn was moved to an administrative position once they learned of the investigation and upon his arre earlier this week he was placed on administrative leave. The charges presented in federal court today do not touch on any illicit contact among flynn and students at the school. Thats been emphasized by the School Administration and the attorney for the accused. The allegations not only dont involve student, they dont involve contact with any human being. This is simply view pornography. Reporter now, the distribution charge carries a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years. That is a mandatory minimum. The possession charge carries up to ten years in jail as well as supervised lifetime release. Now, Montgomery County schools have had to deal with this sort of topic a number of times over the past few months. Theres ban past case of a teachers aide and a substitute teacher who faced charges for having illicit contact with a student. Wendy and jim, we are learning a sophomore at Bowie High School took a loaded gun to school today. That student was pulled out of class when administrators were warned by another student about this. The 16yearolds backpack was searched and police say a a. 40caliber gun was in there. The boy was charged with possession of a handgun, but police say the weapon was never pointed at anyone or used as a threat. Back to you. The man suspected in two highprofile murders of Virginia College students was just ruled out in a third case involving a young woman. Prosecutors tell us they found no credible evidence to link Jesse Matthews to the tis appearance of 17yearold Alexis Murphy outside of charlottesville. A man named randy taylor has been convicted of that murder. Matthew is in fairfax awaiting trial for a 2005 rape. Prosecutors say hes been linked by forensic evidence to the murders of Hannah Graham and morgan harrington. A rolling feud between two drivers ended with gunfire in Loudoun County. Our Northern Virginia bureau chief julie care is flye countryside with details on an extreme case of road rage. Reporter that intersection just ahead there is where the incident began, route 7 and city center boulevard. Drivers we talked to today arent shocked just because there was road rage gunfire but because it happened in broad daylight. People yelling and flipping you the bird but, you know, it happens. It happens especially around here with all the traffic. Reporter melissa says thats what she typically associates with road rage on busy route 7 but thursdays incident way beyond that. Loudoun county sheriffs investigators say it started when the victim pulled on to route 7 west from city center boulevard near the dulles town center. At first suspects car was tailgating the victim. Then he pulled alongside and began yelling. Gestures were exchanged, then the victim heard gunshots. The suspects car exited onto the Loudoun County parkway. When the victim discovered bullet holes in his has jer side rear door he called the sheriffs office. Im in shock. I cant believe in the middle of the day somebodys going to pull out a gun and shoot just because they didnt let him over they, you know, were tail fwaet ingteingtailgating. Thats insane. Reporter other drivers share melissas outrage. This 21yearold doesnt drive partly because of the sometimes crazy traffic. Its a little bit intimidating because its just driving, man, all trying to go to one place. Reporter as for melissa, she tries to ward off tailgaters with this message on the back of her suv. A hit and killed this morning in landover and Prince Georges County police say other drivers may have run over the body. The woman was crossing landover road near Matthew Henson avenue before dawn when she was struck and killed. There is no crosswalk in that area. Neighbors say they need a red light there to give pedestrians and cars enough time to cross the street. Ive seen too many people come out here trying to cross this highway and dodging cars. Weve seen cars accident after accident. Woke up in the middle of the night, early in the morning, zinlt accidents on the street. The driver who hit the pedestrian this morning did remain on the scene. Tonight we expect to hear from d. C. S Homeland Security Department about its findings into last weeks deadly smoke incident beneath lenphant plaza. Transportation reporter adam has been on the story all week and joins us live outside the Wilson Building where the department will release its report. Ed a tsunami. Reporter this report will focus on the communication issues that day. Of course we know that d. C. Fire was having trouble with its radios inside lenphant plaza. This report should spell out why. Now, among the issues that will be looked at what happened in a control room at 1 Judiciary Square in northwest. Its in that room that metro says d. C. Fire officials changed communication switches without telling metro. And metro says its quite certain thats why d. C. Fire radios were not able to function inside metros tunnels during the episode. Something else well be watching, if tcd. C. Fire radios would r couldnt work in lenphant plaza, were they also not working in the entire metro system . This report should give a better picture. Acting gm jack requa talked about trust and communication with d. C. Fire. Hopefully we would cooperate in that manner and maybe they felt there was no changes, the changes they made would not impact the communications but we could not find any troubles on our side we went to them and they notified us of what they did and we made the changes. Heroin is becoming an epidemic in one Maryland County and as weve been reporting over the past year its not in the back alleys of bad neighborhoods. Its becoming more mainstream with younger more affluent users. Anne arundel county executive steve shoe says he will declare a public emergency next week. Shoe says heroin is a problem with people of every age, income and race. He tells the gazette there were 26 heroin deaths in the first half of last year on average one a week, a big increase from 2013. A task force is now working on offering solutions. A school fight in Arlington County over the location of a new elementary after a fivemonth study. A group appointed by the school board is revealing its recommendation tomorrow for a New Elementary School to be located close to Thomas Jefferson middle school along old fwleeb road. That area is currently a park. The proposed plan calls for keeping the woods at the eastern enl and keeping all the current recreational facilities including two fullsized fields. A group called save t. J. Park opposes any school on this site. Residents can comment on the plans at tomorrows board meeting. Major changes could be coming to one of our areas most congested travel corridors. Vdot says it wants to put new high occupancy toll lane on i66 inside and outside the beltway to offer commuters a way around congestion. The system would be similar to the new beltway and 95 expressway lanes except the 66 lanes would only be in toll mode during rush hour. That eightinch water main that broke last night near river road in bethesda well they have closed up for a while. Crews had to wait for a while to repair it because there was a natural gas line that burst in the area. River road had to be shut down between Western Avenue and little falls parkway but it did reopen within the past hour so godspeed. Crews also wrapped up work on a separate water main break in Prince Georges County this afternoon. Take a look, in this case were told a connection burst between fire hydrant and a 24inch main causing water to gush out onto the street and the sinkhole to form there. This one was along old atlas road near church road in bowie. Cold rain and sleet is whats headed our way from North Carolina heavy rain hit the peadnt area this morning, closing several schools early. Its expected to continue raining there into tomorrow and that storm already arriving here. And in what form is it coming in at this point . Every form. It really is. I just walked outside. To the south and east. Looks like all rain. But i asked you to let me know what youre seeing. This is falling as snow and a too. This is not rain. The radar not picking this up very well. But we are seeing some fairly heavy snow coming down into parts of the region, down towards culpepper, received a picture from facebook talking about accumulation already. That will be the scenario tonight. But was because of that warmer air, especially warmer air in the upper levels of the atmosphere well see snow change over the some sleet and just some regular plain old rain. If youre going out tonight, it is going to be simply a mess around the region. Weve got a lot more rain to make its way through here. Go on out, make sure you take the umbrella with you because were talking a mixture of rain and snow and sleet at 7 00 plain rain at 9 00 and around 11 00 as temperatures fall through the 30s. Thats where they are right now. Thats why washington was taken out of the Winter Weather advisory. Temperatures are still near 40 degrees. 37 in gaithersburg 39 in martinsburg, 36 in manassas. Even though we are seeing snow and sleet out of this we wont be seeing it stick on the roadways anytime soon. Back to the north and west this may stay snow longer and thatwhy the National Weather service has the winter storm warning in effect for Washington County martinsburg, winchester and off to the west. Snow totals mostly rain toward the south although you may end the snow n inch in d. C. This is really coming from tomorrow as we get snow on the backside. 1 to 2 leesburg up toward frederick and down the south, maybe 2 to 4 back towards the west if it stays all snow back towards this area. Future weather showing it to us very well. 8 00, the rain, the sleet thats coming in with a little bit of snow but by 11 00 i expect everybody to be almost all rain with the exception of back towards the north and west. This computer model not really picking it up. Tomorrow 7 00 a. M. We start to see a break before the rain and the snow come back in across our region. So we might see a little accumulating snowfall during the day tomorrow. High temperatures 41 degrees on your saturday 45 on sunday. Now, sunday will be dry for the most part. Loudoun county Fairfax County snow towards gaithersburg down to the south, quantico reporting snow culpepper. Thats that little area culpepper reporting snow. All is still a mixture of rain sleet, and snow coming across our region. Thats why we have ther weather advisory in effect until noon tomorrow. What well see tomorrow is a change back over to more snow on the backside of this. Winter storm warnings back farther to the west. As weve talked about, temperatures today 42 for a high and that will have an impact on the weather overnight. Thats right. Seeing accumulation of snow on decks and patio, not on the black top. Most roads are fine until early morning. Most of the roads. Early tomorrow morning we could see more snow for several hours. That is our best chance. The temperature then 35 degrees for your drive time forecast saturday then a little bit of mixing with a high of 41 as the storm system pulls out of here. Doug . Then we look towards our next storm system so we have a little tomorrow morning and on sunday night the real storm moves in as far as the snow is concerned. The defense subpoenaed the judges cell phone and emails saying theyre evidence the judge had drugs in her home, is lie, and trying to get another witness to lie at the upcoming trial next month. But at todays Court Hearing the defense was denied access to most of the items in the subpoena. In this trial, are you trying to put judge creighton on trial . We dont have any comment on it. Last may 19th the judge reported to police that shed returned home from work and found sending in a drunking rage. She says he beat her, dragged her to her car, demanding she be driven. She got away. He drove off in her car hitting another car head on treated for injuries in a hospital and fled to miami, florida, where he was later arrested. We asked a rockville lawyer with no connection to the case how far the defense can go attacking a victims credibility. Where someone may be lying, where there may be evidence of other crime, and where the relationship of this judge and this defendant is at issue, those are fair game. While the hearing was going on in court againstndant, in another courtroom his alleged victim judge Audrey Creighton, was on the bench presiding over another matter. The Measles Outbreak spread to another state as officials warn about travel to the happiest place on earth. Now cases in seven western states have been linked to the outbreak. It all began earlier this month when five employees came down with measles. California Health Officials are warning unvaccinated tourists about visiting the theme park. The outbreak of measles that started at disneyland has reached several other states again. The virus is highly contagious. Kristin wright talked to a local doctor who says there is reason to pay close attention to this outbreak. Kristin . Just this past spring we saw cases of measles in virginia and then potential exposure in virginia maryland and d. C. It is important to know that pregnant women and infants are high risk and that please l cases have spiked 644 in the u. S. Last year and now 50 more. Tonight Doreen Gentzler is here with the story of a local woman who has decide to share what is usually a very personal process. Doreen . Reporter hi wendy. Tonight we neat a virginia woman who decided to make her personal experience with egg freezing public. Shes blogging about her decision. She hopes it will help other women find their own answers. Rachel is 34 years old. Shed never thought about freezing her eggs until her sister brought it up about four years ago. I had just gotten out of a long relationship and so she felt like by the time i get into one, like what it takes to really get to know someone, like you dont want to rush that. Reporter she says she brushed her sister off thinking she had plenty of time to start a family but when four years had passed and mr. Right still wasnt in the picture, she reconsidered. Because it just felt so such a personal and intimate thing to say yes to and i felt that, you know whatever your religious views are there is for me there was an aspect of like was this right. Reporter as women age, so do their eggs making it more difficult to conceive as the years go by. But improvements in the egg freezing process allow women to save their young eggs so they can be used up until the woman turns 51. Right now pregnancy success rates with this method range from 35 to 55 . Theres just a little aspect of oh my gosh i feel like a failure because im now, you know in my 30s and i have to resort to egg freezing. Reporter last fall she went through the process which she says was easy. Injections for eight days to stimulate her ovaries then the removal process, which took about half an hour. When she was done 19 eggs were frozen in liquid nitrogen where they will remain until shes ready to use them. But i didnt know many friends that were doing it so i needed an outlet for myself to just sort of like get out my emotion and i just started writing. Reporter she documented the whole process and eventually put her writings online in the form of a blog which she hopes will help other women make a tough decision. I do feel like everyones like reasons will be different and unique i did it really because i was really scared of regretting not doing it. Reporter the process of freezing eggs has gotten much better over the years but as we said the pregnancy rate using these eggs is still relatively low, between 35 and 55 . Its also expensive, about 7,000 just to retrieve eggs and then theres an annual fee to keep them frozen. Doctors tell us the younger the eggs are when theyre frozen the better the chance of pregnancy later on. Lots to consider for people who are thinking about this decision. True. Thanks doreen.
