Afternoon against her school in the georgetown synagogue. That is where rabbi barry freundelel is accused of illegally videotaping women as they undressed and went into a ritual bath. The lawsuit claims as a professor at georgetowns law school, he encouraged the student to write a term paper on the ritual bath and told her to research it by immersing herself on two different occasions. The suit says she is one of at least 100 women who might have been videotaped and says the school and the synagogue should have done more to protect the women from the rabbi, because according to court records, he had a longstanding reputation for being, quote, creepy and encouraging young, attractive women to repeatedly use the bath. The lawsuit says one synagogue staffer is even quoted as saying the rabbi treated the mikvah like a car wash, every sunday, six students at a time. The student got the highest grade in the class because of that paper. But says she now feels she was lured to the bath by the rabbi so he could sexually exploit her. A University Rep emailed us, ng wsayiare horrified by the behavior reported to have taken place at the mikvah. The university is cooperating fully with Law Enforcement authorities on their investigation, as well as conducting our own investigation into rabbi freundels conduct. Now to Montgomery County where a woman was murdered inside an expensive new building. Investigators say the victim wasnt the only person inside that condo when they arrived. This all happened at the white flint station condos on old georgetown road. News4s Jackie Bensen with more on what police found at the scene. Reporter we can tell you that right now police are talking to the victims roommate. Montgomery county Police Officers responded to a 911 call from the white flint station condo complex on old georgetown road, just east of Rockville Pike around 10 00 a. M. Sources tell news4, one of the complexs maintenance workers told police he discovered the womans body when he came to the unit to make a repair and found the door ajar. Sources say the victim had been stabbed in the upper body. The First Arriving officers also encountered the victims roommate. Were interviewing a roommate, and identified as a female in her 50s. She was present when police arrived. Reporter the complex, a stones throw from Rockville Pike, is a fairly recent addition to the area. Police say it enjoys a very low crime rate. This area is referred to as both North Bethesda and rockville by people who live here. Neighbors have a lot of concerns, a lot of questions coming up on news4 at 6 00, well hear from them. Investigators say he was driving on somely road in glen bernie this morning when he drove his car across the center line and crashed into a tree and street sign. Right now, the executives from all of the major American Sports are on capitol hill, testifying before Senate Committee about Domestic Violence in professional sports. Senate leaders want to know if theyre doing enough in the wake of some recent highprofile Domestic Violence scandals were familiar with. She attended county schools from kindergarten to graduation from roosevelt high school. The nations Homeland Security secretary told Congress Today the number of unacknowledged immigrant children entering the u. S. Has plummeted in recent months but a different story in Montgomery County. National numbers are down from 10,000 children in may to about 2,000 in october. But a review by the news4 iteam finds Montgomery County is still seeing a huge influx. Our Scott Macfarlane reviewed records and found schools now have at least 114 unacknowledged immigrant children. Thats nearly double the number that started the school year in september. The showdown over president obamas immigration policy could lead to another government shutdown. On the hill today, Republican Leaders insisted, they are not trying for another shut down, but they are they would with hold money from the department of Homeland Security. They want to stop mr. Obamas plan to end the deportation of millions of undocumented workers. I said before thanksgiving, the republicans would fight his unilateral actions and were looking at a variety of options, both right now and when the republicans control both houses of the Congress Next year. But back towards the west, only 33 in hagerstown. 35 in martinsburg. So closer to that freezing mark, thats where we could have some problems. And these are much, much different from the numbers that we saw during the day yesterday. Veronica johnson and i take a looking at those numbers, and vj, this roller coaster just rolls on. It rolls on with some steep dropoffs. In fact, we took a look at the temperature change, plotting it out for you. Look at this, anywhere from 20 to over 30degree temperature drop compared to yesterday at the same time. And the colors really show it well. But the holiday mood darkened yesterday morning when residents discovered a van and several garage doors tagged with spray paint. A few blocks away, the vandalism included swastikas. All thats left of the vandalism now on Stafford Court is the spatter of spray paint on one garage door. Residents moved quickly to paint over the graffiti. Casper didnt know he had been hit until a deputy knocked on his door yesterday morning. I tried to see if i could see something into it, but i couldnt see anything that would indicate that it was something. The police came back and asked if i knew if i was jewish or something, because some of the signs were along that line but i said no, i wasnt. Reporter luckily, he had some Leftover Paint in the garage and covered under the graffiti. He suspects teenagers might be to blame and guesses they may have used this path to walk near the homes. Im surprised at this place. Weve never had any problem before. And this is the first time. And i was shocked. Reporter Stafford Court wasnt the only block hit in sterling. Three miles away two cars were targeted. On one vandals left behind what looked like a failed attempt at a swastika and blocks away, eight cars were spray painted with obscenities and another swastika. The Loudoun County Sheriffs Department tells me they are investigating this vandalism as a potential hate crime. Police just released this Surveillance Video on their facebook page. Its an alleged pick pocket at work just a couple weeks ago. The suspect walked into the panera bread restaurant on h street northwest near sixth in chinatown, sat at a table and while pretending to read a paper, reached into the victims bag behind him and stole credit cards. Heads up, cameras are handing out tickets for the first time. The 30day warning period over for two stop sign cameras in northwest d. C. And six speed cameras in northeast. Now if you get caught, youll be slapped with a 50 fine if you blow through a stop sign. Speeding fines range from 50 to 300, depending on just how fast youre going. Soccer fans in our area got some good news today. The d. C. Council giving preliminary approval for the 300 soccer stadium project that will be built near nats ballpark. Tom sherwood reports that financing details could delay construction just a bit longer. Reporter the 20000 seat soccer stadium would be built near nats park. Good news for fans who have grown tired of years of outdated rfk stadium. Ward 4 Council Member and mayor elect Muriel Bowser praised the soccer vote, although exact financing needs to be worked out. Were doing this for a lot of reasons. We know great cities like ours support arts and culture and sports and our sports teams are a part of that culture. Reporter the soccer Team Supporters crowding the council chamber, the Council Voted to spend up 150 million in city money to assemble the land in southwest, and clear it for soccer construction. The private owners of the team would pay 150 million for the stadium itself. Now expected to be completed in late 2017 or 2018. You know, its about economic development, first and foremost, i think for the city. Its an opportunity for an area of the city that hasnt seen that movement. Reporter the soccer deal which will be voted on one more time in two weeks eliminates a team sales tax break initially negotiated by mayor sent gray. The city agreed to buy the land and provide Public Transportation to the site that could become a new test nation point in the region. Its worked well for baseball. This is chopped up car and truck tires used on playgrounds, because it creates a kind of bouncy protective surface. Some toxicologists and pediatricians say the recycled tire surface may expose Young Children to potentially harmful chemicals. Like our story on artificial turf, this topic has created a heated debate. On one side, the industry points to dozens of studies that says prove recycled tires are safe. And on the other, the critics who think the playgrounds are potentially harmful and should be pulled out. How common is this around the country . This crumb rubber . Well, its difficult to put an exact number on it. Rubber mulch is sold in Hardware Supply Stores around the country. Last year, 20 million tires were spread on playgrounds, even the playground at the white house has rubber mulch. Back then she was a delivery truck driver when young became pregnant she requested to be put on a temporary assignment, because her doctors said she couldnt lift anything over 20 pounds. Instead the mother claims her boss told her not to come back to work until she gave birth. They basically told me that go home, we dont have anything that you can do until youre no longer pregnant because youre a liability. Of course, weve been telling you about this president ial motorcade moving through the area. The gw parkway has been shut down for at least 25 minutes, completely in the middle of rush hour. On this side we have had that massive sinkhole going on all day long. Closing the southbound lanes of the park wae. Well, because the president has been moving around and because this motorcade moving around, they have now closed the northbound lanes of the parkway so he can come southbound on the northbound lanes. The problem, all of this is happening right in the middle of the rush hour. And nobody is moving, nobody is going anywhere fast, guys. I can tell you i know about president ial motorcades. We have all lived here for a long time. This one seems to be very poorly planned. Back to you. All right. Youll be stuck there a while. Thank you, adam. He was seriously hurt playing rugby. Now to an update of a story you saw first on 4 00, a homeowner in the district who took over a large plot of vacant public land for his own use will have to pay a bigger fine. News4 reported yesterday that the homeowner in the palisades neighborhood fenced off and landscaped about 3,500 square feet of land controlled by the city. D. C. Council today allowed the homeowner to keep the unused land, but they increased his fine from about 20,000 to 30,000. Neighbors tell us he set a bad precedent for other city lands. Lets see. Air bag maker takata still not complying with the governments request for a nationwide recall. Consumer reporter Erika Gonzales here now with the latest today. Erika . Reporter at thtakata on a collision course with the government here. Today is the deadline that the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave to takata, demanding it issue a nationwide air bag recall. The air bags can can shoot shrapnel upon impact. And more than 16 million vehicles worldwide are affected. Takata released a statement today, but did not directly confirm whether or not its agreeing to that nationwide recall. Instead, in part the company said it has addressed issues as they have been identified, and made improvements to its products, and production methods. There is a congressional hearing tomorrow where we will hear directly from takata executives. Meanwhile, two major automakers, toyota and honda, have called for independent industry wide tests of the takata air bag inflaters, subject to recalls. Four teenagers are in jail charged with hitting a bus driver with a sock filled with rocks. The entire thing caught on the buss dash cam. This happened on a city bus in cleveland. The city of new york is bracing for the grand sjury decision in the eric garner case. He is the man who died after a Police Officer subdued him with what appears to be an illegal choke hold in the cell phone video of that incident. Sources tell nbc news, the grand jury could vote tomorrow whether that officer should be indicted. Tonight police are trying to piece together a shooting spree that happened in west virginia. An hourslong manhunt for that gunman came to an end last night when officers found him dead in the woods. State police say their suspect, 39yearold jodi lee hunt of westover, was found dead of a self inflicted gunshot wound. They accuse him of killing four people if quick succession in separate shooting incidents in westover and the cheat lake area. These werent random acts of violence. Mr. Hunt did know each of these victims, and we do have some key pieces of evidence that point towards him as being the suspect.
