Mayor vincent gray knew of the scheme to funnel illegal money into the Shadow Campaign before gray ever announced that he would run for office. He says that gray agreed to call him uncle earl to keep his identity a secret, and he said that during the campaign, gray personally asked thompson for 400,000 in cash for efforts to get out the vote. And thompson told the judge that he gave 10,000 to a Family Member of vincent gray and additional 40,000 to a close friend of vincent grays for home improvement. In addition to all of the money that was funneled to mayor gr grays campaign, thompson admitted to funneling another 2. 5 million to various campaigns from 2006 to 2012 and that is d. C. Council races as well as federal races for house, the senate and including several primaries that Hillary Clinton ran in. Clintons Campaign Said they did not know about the street team, and they were working with the investigators. And Court Records also say that since 2006, thompson disbersed funds to 16 mayoral and Council Candidates totaling millions. And now, a motorcycle who led police on a wild chase last summer has been sentenced. It was captured on tape by a helicopter. He pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment, and today, a judge sentenced him the three years in prison suspended. He is going to spend two years super vised probation, and is required to spend 60 Days Community service. And today, the hunt is on for a man who snuck into a womans house, and crawled into bed with herk and sexually assaulted her. This happened on Prince Cole Court in manassas. Initially the woman thought that the man was her husband and pat collins has the story. We are treating it seriously. This kind of crime does not usu usually happen. A 40yearold woman is asleep in her apartment, in her bedroom, and inner own bed, and she rolls over, and there is a man next to her. She thinks that it is her husband, but it turns out that he is a total stranger, and this turns out to be the beginning of a bizarre sexual assault. And she initially thought that it was her husband, but then things didnt seem right. And aggressively he sexually assaults her. And she knows that something is not right. Right. Reporter and she goes to follow him out of the apartment . And sees her husband sleeping on the sofa, and she cant believe what has happened. Reporter and so why was the victims husband asleep on the couch in the living room . There is a reason for that. The husband was sleeping on the couch, because they have small children a and he needed sleep. They have a baby. Reporter so there were small children and a baby in the apartment when this happened . Yeah. And d. C. Police need your help, because they are trying to identify a man accused of a sexual assault, and look at this video, because they say that a man kidnapped a woman in northwest d. C. And sexually assault assaulted her on saturday march 1st near barnes street and grant place. Investigators say that the suspect is in his 20s with a slim build and small goatee and may go by the name mow tes. In detroit, there is some star power to speed up the testing of rain kits. Well, jim, we have had reporters in the courthouse all afternoon as the Jeff Thompson case has been unfolding. Scott macfarlane is tweeting from the courtroom, and he learned that the next court date has been set. He is going to have to be back in court on may 15th at 1 00 p. M. , and thompson will be released are the giuilty plea, and must surrender his passport and right to vote. And it is tax time, and for many taxpayers there are many changes when you go the file this year. And liz crenshaw is here with what you need to know about the new tax issues. Are liz . Well, the light brings changes, and with that comes new taxes. The government shutdown, and the samesex marriages and even a home office are all going to change how much you owe the government. Reporter topping the list the government shutdown. 800,000 federal workers were affected, furloughed from their jobs in october, and while out of work, some applied for unemployment benefits. If you did, you have to pay extra income tax. That is going to be income on top of the regular taxable income, and so be prepared to pay taxes on the benefits. Sandra block of kiplinger finance broke down the top four new tax issues to be aware of this season. Number two, the samesex marriage, and the irs now recognizes it, so same sex couples can file federal returns, married or separately, but heres the problem. D. C. And maryland recognize same sex marriage, but virginia does not. So same sex couples filing in virginia have more paperwork to do and creating dummied federal single payor tax returns. Virginia like all states uses your federal tax return for the basis of the tax return, but they are not recognizing the fact that you are married in your federal tax returns, so you have to create the dummy tax returns, and pretend that you are filing, and even though you dont file them with the irs, you have to fill them out. And tax number three is courtesy of the Affordable Care act, a new investment surtax. And taxpayers who earn more than 200,000 or 250,000 married and have income from investments may issue four, the irs made it easier this year to deduct the expense off a home office. The rules are the same, and you must be selfemployed and have a dedicated home space for your business, but instead of claiming a complicated percentage of your home, this tax season, the math is easier. Multiply the Square Footage of the home office by 5 and so a 300 foot space times 5 equals a 1,500 deduction.
