That moisture coming right off of the Pacific Ocean and the gulf of mexico. And well continue to see that moisture moving in right on through the night tonight and right on into the day tomorrow, too. We could even see heavy rain. What to expect through the day. Two people in custody accused of robbing a bank in oldtown alexandria at the pnc bank at the corner of North Washington street at 10 00 a. M. Both men had guns. Alexandria officials quickly locked down several schools in the oldtown potomac yard area. Officials caught up with the suspects south of the target in potomac yard. Police i. D. d the suspects. Oin Montgomery County poli are following up on new clues as they search for a woman suspected of a home invasion. Police released pictures of a woman they say tied up a 74yearold man in his home in kensington. She robbed him of his credit cards and cash a few weeks ago. Two other people have been using those stolen cards. Detectives are looking for them as well. Pat collins sat down with the man who was robbed. Youre going to hear from him tonight at 5 00. An electrical fire hurt a map in North Potomac on Settlers Landing way. One man is being treated for smoke inhalation. The fire started in an Electrical Panel in the homes bamt basement. Damage is estimated to be around half a million dollars. First at 4 00, it took a long time to get somebody in the job, but metros new leader is telling us how hes adjusting to his new position. Paul wedefeld sat down with adam tuss for his first oneonone tv interview today. He talked about restoring safe in the metro system and making sure metro employees treat each other with respect. Today the d. C. Council gave unanimous approval to mayor Muriel Bowsers body cam legislation. This is just the first vote and has to go to a second maybe later this month. The mayor and council did reach an agreement that will allow the public to see most of the images caught by the cameras. A baltimore judge is considering a new panel of people for the first trial in the death of freddie gray. William porter is charged with involuntary manslaughter. Reporter when you say a new panel, there was a panel yesterday and then one today, so they could get approximately 150 jurors to screen. Thats what theyre doing now, finishing up the froprocess. It is expected tomorrow the jury of 12 will be selected and this trial could begin with opening statements. Now, baltimore Police Officer William Porter is charged with manslaughter and assault in the death of freddie gray. He is the first of six Police Officers to stand trial. Porter was not the office who arrested kb eed gray or the dri the van in which gray reportedly suffered spinal injuries but during the investigation porter made statements. Our legal Analyst Thinks thats why officer porter is being tried first. So the prosecution would like to be able to introduce those statements at his trial as well as make them available against other Police Officers. He told a House Armed Services committee that over time the special ops teams will be able to conduct raids, free hostages, gather intelligence and capture isis leaders. She says by the time its done at the end of next year, it will increase the amount of solar power generated here in the district by 70 . The smog is so thick its erasing the citys skyline and breaking records. The pollution level is now 35 times higher than what experts consider safe to breathe. Schools are keeping students indoors. People are wearing face masks outside. And hospitals are packed with patients having breathing problems. Ironically, chinas president is in paris right now attending that Climate Change performance with other world leaders. Could use a little bit of rain to wash some of that pollution away. Also here in the district, mayor bowser signed onto a pledge to end the hiv aids epidemic by the year 2030. That pledge is sponsored by the United Nations and has support from cities, states and countries around the world. There are still people who arent getting the care they need and there are still people who think maybe it wont happen to them. The district has cited significant progress in fighting hiv and aids over the years. But Health Officials say too many people young and old are still being exposed to the virus. On december 1st, 1955, montgomery, alabama, seamstress rosa parks removed to give up her seat to a white man on a city bus. Her arrest prompted a bus boycott that brought about desegregation of city buses. Visitors today to the National Portrait gallery downtown viewed artwork that celebrates that occasion. I think she was tired and she was just tired of the whole situation of being the whole segregation, and she just decided i had enough of this, my feet are tired, im going to sit right here. She stands for a symbol of everyone else who was not as famous as she is, but took the same heroics. He had his xbox stolen during a burglary at his familys home over the weekend. Hes only 11 years old. When he told the officers his money didnt have the money to replace it, the members of the force all chipped in, bought him a new one. You can say that again. A couple from minneapolis from a suburb in minneapolis dropped in a check for half a million dollars. Wow. The couple wants to remain anonymous so we cant tell you who they are but they did reveal whats behind this big gift. As a young couple, they say they had to rely on discarded food from a Grocery Store to survive, so now they can afford to help others. The Salvation Army in minnesota gave groceries to more than 100,000 people this year. And were also following that breaking news in northwest d. C. Where a gun was found inside Wilson High School. What we just learned about this case. And Chicagos Police chief fired. It comes after the shooting death of a teenager at the hands of a Police Officer. The full story coming up. Right now, police are trying to figure out how a gun made it into Wilson High School in northwest d. C. Heres what we know right now. Police believe the student made it past metal detecters and a security bag check at the entrance of the school. Authorities moved in after the student allegedly showed the gun to another student. A female student. And she allegedly posted a picture on snapchat. Security detained and questioned both students. School Officials Say the school is safe and no one was hurt, but afterschool activities have been canceled for the rest of the day. He has become an issue rather than dealing with the issue earlier on tuesday in an interview with wmax mccarthy defended his actions. I didnt have the authority to do what people naught i should have done. Reporter also admitted a release on the day of the shooting saying van dyke fired on mcdonald 16 times only after the teenager lunged at officers was wrong. The initial press release was mistaken, no two ways about it. I guess thats my fault. Im accountable for it. Reporter mccarthy said in the 14 months since the shooting he never corrected that information because the feds had taken over the investigation. 16 shots reporter critics say thats more evidence of a police coverup. An accusation bolstered by missing Surveillance Video from a nearby burger king, as well as missing audio from dashcam video of the shooting. State prosecutors are trying to get him convicted of murder and sent back to jail and we just learned the Supreme Court of appeals will announce its verdict on thursday. Officer santiago is charged with assault and misconduct in the incident which was recorded with a cell phone. It happened outside a home in buoy back in may of 2014. Indonesian investigators say a faulty rudder control system and the pilots response led to the crash into the java sea. Investigators say the rudder system on the plane had problems 23 problems in the year before the crash. They also say the plane warned pilots several times during the illfated flight. The pilots tried to reset the system which caused the plane to stall and plunge into the sea. Investigators also believe there may have been confusion between the pilot and copilot while one said to, quote, pull down, the plane was actually ascending. It was a weather alert early part of the day with moderate rain moving through. And were really watching the next 24 hours because there will be more waves of rain coming into the area. It goes all the way down here and out ahead of this front theres a lot of warm air. Thats whats going to be moving in, and right through our area during the overnight period. So our temperatures are actually going to be going up during the overnight. Mt. Vernon, ft. Washington, a shower there. Its all sliding to the northnortheast toward bellview, areas toward 2010 and eventually camp springs. Very light rain here for the evening. I think even past midnight were going to have just some scattered light showers around the area. Different story for tomorrow morning. Back to the umbrella, back to the jackets for sure. You can see our temperatures are going to be in the 40s. Low and mid 50s across the area. So rising but still on the chilly side. And all this white that you see on the map from areas of frederick down toward d. C. , even around fredericksburg, theyre all under a mild air, manassas, culpeper, gaithersburg, thats some visibility for early tomorrow morning. So dense fog likely around the area. We may even see a fog advisory issued. Were going to stay on top of that as well. Moderate rain for early tomorrow morning. Even some pockets for the afternoon of moderate rain left. I think it all starts to taper around 2 00, 3 00. Then finally end tomorrow evening, but you know weve gotten quite a bit already, over a half inch. We could see another half inch, all these areas in blue covering most of the area through d. C. , right across areas of 66 then areas of southern maryland, Northern Neck could pick up another inch of rain over the next 24 hours. Heres some of the heaviest moving in. You can see it. Ithaca College Students expressing their dissatisfaction with the schools president in a symbolic chilly, brisk, and wet. Right now were tracking the showers that have been falling on our area for more than a day now. And were not out of the woods yet. Dougs forecast coming up in just a few minutes on news 4 at 5 00. This video shows the moment of a big explosion near a metro station in turkey today. At least five people were injured. The blast was caused by a pipe bomb, according to the mayor of istanbul where it happened. The bomb went off near the height of rush hour. Train service in istanbul has been stopped for the rest of the day. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing. In the week that missouri students walked out in protest over the Race Relations on campus, ithaca College Students followed, and then students on campuses around the country including howard stood in solidarity with missouri and ithaca. I expect him to come forward with new rules and active mindset toward this problem we have on campus. Reporter last month students had a walkout on campus to express frustrations over who they say was a lack of relationship from the president over racially charged incidents. Students say after the protests, theres been a lot of activity of people who support president roshaun and from those who dont. As these conversations are happening, theres a lot of opposition, you know, from the other side, from people who dont understand, people who dont see the issues. Its a situation that directly affects all of us and im off campus, but this is a fight that weve been fighting going on four years. Reporter the noconfidence vote was largely symbolic. The Ithaca College board of trustees is the only board authorized to take action against the president. I dont think this vote se y solely will be what gets him out of office but a demonstration of how the students and faculty feels about him. News 4 at 5 00 begins with breaking news. We have live coverage in the district where a student brought a gun to school in a backpack. News 4s shomari stone is at Wilson High School where security protocols are being reviewed. Shomari . Reporter thats right. Moments ago i talked to a concerned mother and she is wondering how this student was able to allegedly bring this gun into the school. School officials tell us that no one was hurt, and there is no immediate threat against Wilson High School. But, of course, there are unanswered questions. Lets roll some video. Number one, folks want to know how is this student able to bring the gun in, but also, where did he get the gun . He was able to get past security guards, a metal detector, and a bag search. D. C. School Officials Say he was also able to make it into the classroom with the gun. Now youre probably asking yourself how did School Officials find out about this . Well, sources tell news 4 that the student showed a gun to the classmate. That classmate allegedly took cell phone pictures of it and posted it on snapchat. Now, School Officials somehow saw those pics and confronted the student and allegedly found the gun in his backpack. They took him and the girl who allegedly posted the pictures into custody. We talked to some students moments ago. Heres what they have to say. To me its just shocking. And partly, i dont know whos to blame really, but thats its definitely something that should be investigated and looked normally the security guards they take, like, even glass things. They take, like, perform and glass and anything, and, like, somehow they just, like, let a gun slip by . Like, that doesnt make sense at all. Reporter thats exactly what people are saying, that this whole thing doesnt make sense. Some parents are outraged and they demand answers from principal kimberly martin.
