Anne Arundel Police tell us she drowned in the waters near ft. Mead road. Up to 6 inches of rain fell near the Patuxent River overnight. Several hundred people in laurels Historic District had to evacuate after major flooding there. Prince georges county bureau chief Tracee Wilkins is live in laurel where they have opened the emergency command senior to handle the aftermath. Reporter theyre dealing with voluntary evacuations at this point, pat. Let me show you what its looking like here. As you can see, they have the signs up, emergency evacuation due to flooding, reminding folks not to go down the streets that they think are prone to flooding. Now, already one life has been claimed in all of the high water. Waters already starting to creep up, but again evacuations are not mandatory at this point. There have been some swift water rescues. On the anne arundel side, as you mentioned, one fatality has been reported. Police have been on hand. Police have closed a portion of route 1 due to high water at the bridge. At this point, laurel city officials are talking with wsse and the surrounding counties to see if theyll have to raise the bar to mandatory evacuations. Our concern is later this evening when this as more water is let go and comes to this area, we could be talking about 2,000 to 3,000 people we may have to relocate, especially if we make it mandatory. Reporter county executive baker has contacted the mayor here and asked if he needed any assistance. As you know, laurel encompasses three counties prince georges, anne arundel and howard, and the mayor is sitting back, watching u.
