Neighborhood where children often play. Shomari stone is at the scene with the breaking details. Good evening. Right now d. C. Police are processes the scene and interviewing witnesses. The woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition. She was pronounced dead there hours later. What led up to the officers to open fire. Crashed the car up there. He heard a loud boom when the car crashed bending the hood next to the Bald Eagle Recreation Center in southwest d. C. She was bleeding from the knee. Reporter after she crashed a woman stepped out of the car and police say she was holding a gun. Jerome called 911 around 6 30 this evening and said officers showed up a few minutes later. I heard about four or five shots. Reporter d. C. Police chief. We will, of course, take a look and see if body cameras were activated. There are multiple cameras in the area that we will review. Reporter including cameras on the metro bus driving at the time of the shooting. There is a lot of children children out here at the time. Tell us about the concern for the community. I think you have heard me say this multiple times that we shouldnt have firearms discharge in this city at all. Reporter now, police are still investigating the case as we tell you the officers involved have been put on paid administrative leave. That is standard procedure. Police tell us three suspects entered an apartment on promenade place and shot a man. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police havent released details except he was in his 30s and it is possible he may have known the suspect. Official tells nbc news President Trump convened a big Counter Terrorism meeting the day after he fired michael flynn. A review found that pentagon fire station itself has yet t fall apart one day. Reporter today it is little more than a set of temporary trailers. They are subpar. It is a construction trailer god knows how old. Reporter the firefighters who work inside are not here 24 7. They must be here outside the pentagon for all landings at the helipad. These firefighters are not permitted to speak with the iteam but the head of their union is. Gone 15 years anniversary after anniversary and always preach we will never forget. I think we have been forgotten. Reporter the i team wanted to know why the rebuild is taking so long. Through review we found the answer. A combination of red tape and busted budgets. We found it took ten years for the Defense Department and congressional leaders to agree on a plan for a new station and to lineup the money. Military formally estimated the cost to be 6. 4 million. Then for four years they tried to find a contractor for the job. And then a bigger problem. According to internal military records their estimate wasnt even close. The responses back far exceeded the funding we had. It was going to cost a lot more than you thought. It was going to cost a lot more than what we had funding for. Reporter which means leaders had to scrap those plans and start over including lobbying and negotiating with a new congress. They hope to have a new proposal this year but admit there is no time table still for a new fire station. The federal records reviewed show temporary trailers failed to meet Safety Standards without sufficient space to store hoses. Jackson says the tight quarters slowed firefighters if they have to move and respond with the rescue truck. It adds time not at risk but admits the trailers are not a good long term option. We are working through as quickly as possible. 9 11 survivors say they hope the new station is online soon. You cant wait for emergency equipment to respond. You need to start responding immediately.
