Two people are dead and the Community Wants answer. We have Team Coverage tonight of whats happening here in the district and whats being done about it. We begin tonight with shomari stone who spoke with the chief. Reporter the mayor says this is horrific. She is horrified by what happened. Five shootings, two people died, all in one day. Let me show you a map of what were talking about here. Four of these shootings occurred in southeast d. C. One was in northwest d. C. Areas in these neighborhoods are very upset. Some are even scared tonight. Thats what they told me. Lets roll some video of the scene. Police were called to the 4800 block of texas avenue southeast and found the body of a man in the alley between a valayer owe gas station. And then they were called to 49th street southeast, there they found a woman unconscious and not breathing. Witnesses said she was walking to her house when six shots were fired. Police say these two scenes are related. Now unrelated in northwest d. C. , a man was grazed by a bullet and is going to be okay. And earlier there were two other shootings in southeast d. C. Both of those victims survived. We asked mayor bowser and chief we are horrified by the violence we saw today. Its a level of violence not acceptable in our city. And we are going to put every single resource, police and otherwise in the neighborhoods to get rid of this violence. Reporter what do you say to some folks watching this who have information but quite frank lay are scared to come forward. We need people to talk to us. Theres ways you can talk to us anonymously. Reporter indeed, police urge anyone with information to give them a call. Authorities have not released the names of the victims in these cases. It is still under investigation. News 4 first reported last november that 21 year old antwon pitt was charged with a shocking crime. A woman was raped and the person cut off his ankle monitor two weeks before. We first reported some Washington Gas customers february. But even after the gas company told us it was close to being fixed were now in may, and viewers continue to contact us with complaints. I wouldnt think it was delinquent, theyve never sent me a bill. Reporter bob tillman says he has not received a gas bill since january. He usually pays his bill using the electronic billing system. I get an electronic bill every month, and all i have to do is click on it and the bank sends the payment. Its worked seamlessly f lly fo multiple years. Reporter until he heard about a coworker. And he gave them a call. They told him he was delinquent and owed 416. Good news, they didnt disconnect me. Reporter but that wasnt the case at amy wolens home. I have no pousch, no gas coming through. Turned it off. She said since signing up for ebill, shes never received a bill. I paid my last bill, i guess paper bill, in october. Reporter and about 600 later. I paid all the months prior before they would hook me up. The very next day i got a call from a neighbor. And she was very upset, the exact same story. Reporter both bob and amy say they never received any kind of notice from Washington Gas about its ebill problems. So just like we did in february, nbc 4 responds reached out again to waington gas. It told us in part, it sent notification to affected users and offered alternative ways to make payments. It said errors in the migration sum existing customer profiles to the new platform caused problems. Washington gas says its on track to resolve remaining issues this week. In the meantime, the company says it will not charge any late fees. 4, i remembered a story that yall did back in the winter, gee, i would have thought this would have all been fixed by now.
