Four people shot in the span of less than three hours tonight. And we just learned one of them has died. News4s Megan Fitzgerald just got to the scene of the second shooting. Its at 46th and g street, not far from benning road. Meagan, what you learning . Reporter jim, this call came in around 10 00. You can see behind me a very active scene. Police have taped off the area here as they continue their investigation. Now they tell us around 10 00 they got a call of two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. Those men have been transported to the hospital. We are told they were conscious and breathing. Now we want to take you to that first scene from earlier today. Show you some video there. This happening over in the berry pharmacy neighborhood at the 1100 block of eaton place. As you said, one person died. Police felt they arrived on scene at around 7 35 with two adult males that were shot. One person transported to the hospital, conscious and breathing. We now understand that the second person in that shooting has died. Homicide detectives are on scene investigating. They tell us they recovered multiple gunshot shell casings. Now investigators are not telling us at this point if the two shootings are connected. But we do know that theyre still looking for the suspects. Back to you. Meagan, thank you so much. New tonight, Fairfax Countys police chief responding directly to video of an officer using a taser on man with his back turned and hands on the hood of a car. The chief says his officer not only acted appropriately, he is commending him for his restraint. News4s Jackie Bensen is live on rosehill drive where this all went down. Jackie . Reporter wendy, Fairfax Countys police chief told us that that video widely seen on social media does not reflect the whole encounter, does not show what his officers saw. Get on the ground why are you doing that to that guy . Roll over reporter the 911 call came in from the Suntrust Bank in the Rosehill Shopping Center just after 1 00 p. M. Last thursday. The person, the customer went into the managers office, put his sunglasses on, and left, which was weird too. And now he is wandering around outside. Reporter Fairfax County police chief ed roessler released an additional video of the incident. He says the angle from which both were taken does not show what his officers claimed they saw, a man resisting arrest, who is reaching in the direction of this folding knife clipped inside the front of his pants. Its a little bit more than six inches. So its a Utility Knife that folds out. Thats what was in there . And that could be a Deadly Weapon if he was to get it. Reporter 35yearold Elton Cansler has been charged with assaulting a Police Officer and larceny. His brother marco crosby says cansler has cerebral palsy. Crosby does not believe the force used against cansler was justified. A knife in his hand. But the fact they say it was clipped on his belt or clipped in his pocket, you know, and the tape clearly shows that he never reached for it. So where was the threat . There was no eminent threat to that officer for him to use that type of force on my brother. Reporter now this is just the latest incident involving the use of police force in Fairfax County. And i can tell you the availability that we saw from the chiefs this evening answering questions, providing us with photographs, something that certainly would have been unusual even just a few years ago. Back to you. All right, jackie, thank you. New tonight, more problems for metro. Reports of an arcing a insulator to the track at Friendship Heights tonight. It forced the red line to start single tracking. Take a look at the mess down there, and the fire response impacted traffic on busy wisconsin avenue. No one was hurt. And service got back to normal around 10 00. You may remember this scene from last week, smoke pouring from the stadium armory station just one day before the popes arrival. Now that fire is going to impact commuters for months. Starting tomorrow, only the blue line trains will be stopping at the stadium armory station during rush hour. Orange and silver lines going right past it. And thats on top of changes already in place. And that includes fewer and less frequent trains on those three lines. Thats having an impact all the way into virginia. Billions of dollars goes out to metro, and were stuck, late for work. And we have to explain to our bosses why were late. And its because of metro. Some d. C. Students who use the stadium armory station to get to school, theyre going to have to now ride a bus. Well, its been bonedry out there the past couple of days. But doug, you have a new update on something weve been tracking all day . Thats right, guys. First off, you though were going to be talking about the rain as it moves in over the next couple days. Tomorrow morning no problem. I think youre going get up to morning rush. Its going to be aokay. Tomorrow evening little bit of a different story. Lets take a look at the radar. No rain really around our region. Weve seen a few showers off and on, essentially back towards the blue ridge. Look at all the shower activity down to the south. More back to the west. As of 11 00, just 15, 20 minutes ago, we have had our tropical depression, which was tropical depression 11, has now become Tropical Storm joaquin. Down here towards the atlantic. And its expected to move up the east coast. I think this will have an impact on our weekend weather. Tonight senator ted cruz continued his open revolt against Republican Leaders and said he is not surprised House Speaker john boehner is stepping down. But its also telegraphed the deal that he has just cut can. Its a deal to surrender and join with the democrats. Notice he said he is going to stay a month. Hes going stay a month. In order to join with the democrats and fund Barack Obamas priorities. Senator cruz is trying to kill a socalled clean bill that would fund the government through early december. But it would not strip funding for planned parenthood. A lot of conservatives have promised to defund the organization after undercover videos raised questions on whether it profited from the sale of fetal tissue. The head of planned parenthood will be called before congress tomorrow, and weve got a headsup on her testimony. She is expected to say the organization has nearly 700 clinics and only 1 of them retrieved that tissue. She will argue the videos were edited and misleading. And the group hasnt broken any laws. Bowser and fire chief gregory dean want to use private Ambulance Companies to help carry the load. The private contractors would be used for low priority patients. The fire chief says there has been a surge in calls for low priority or nonemergency incidents. And sometimes that is leading to delays. Supreme court is the only thing that could stop virginias first execution in nearly three years. Today Governor Terry mcauliffe denied a lastminute attempt to delay the execution of convicted serial killer alfredo prieto. The high court would need to intercept to stop the execution which is set for thursday. Defense attorneys argued prieto was mentally challenge and wanted to move the case to california. Mcauliffe says the case has already been decided in the courts. And the lawyer for the man who supposedly confessed to a deadly hitandrun is questioning that confession. Ryans attorney claims the 22yearold christian rapper was held until he confessed. Police say solani ran down William Mcdaniel in clarksburg last week after a fight over some music recording. Solandis mother turned him in. Witnesses saw a car circle back and hit mcdaniel and then take off. He is being held without bond. He is charged with firstdegree murder. Tonight escalon and pepco are asking d. C. Regulators to reconsider their 6. 8 million merger. Today both companies filed a motion saying the merger would stabilize rates and enhance reliability for both electric and gas service. But opponents argue the merger would not benefit the public. Mayor bowsers office says tonight the companies are working to address those concerns, and quote, the district deserves a healthy public utility that serves residents and rate payers in a costeffective, dependable, and environmentally sound manner. The trials of six baltimore Police Officers charged in the freddie gray case could be delayed. A judge may decide tomorrow to push back the trial. Defense attorneys say they need more time because they received new evidence from prosecutors. The trial for officer William Porter is supposed to begin in about two weeks. Just 15 minutes after it took off on a 3,000mile flight to ireland. The boeing 757 reported hydraulic failure, no flaps, and problems with the landing gear. It came in faster than normal, and its brakes caught fire. The aer lingus fight just left jfk on a nearly sevenhour flight to ireland when the pilot reported the problems and turned the plane around. The passengers were taken back to the terminal. Crews put the fire out. And a man who was rescued from the side of Sugarloaf Mountain is in the hospital tonight with a head injury. Chopper 4 was there as Maryland State Police helicopter lowered rescuers to sugarloafs blue trail. Thats where the man fell about 75 feet from an outcropping. The man is believed to be in his 20s. No word on the extent of his injury. Tonight were learning about yet another lawsuit filed against the fig olive restaurant chain. Now this case is connected to the chains West Hollywood location. The l. A. County Health Department is looking into more than 20 cases of salmonella at that spot. Here in d. C. , as many as 150 people got sick after eating at the restaurant in city center. Right now there is a multistate investigation under way to see if there are any other cases out there. An attorney who represents two people in d. C. Says tonight certain menu items seem to be a common denominator. Its interesting. The mushrooms, the croquets and the truffle oil, it seems to be a common denominator. The hollywood lawsuit also cites those menu items. Fig olive representative says they are confident they have adequately addressed the situation now. Actor paul walk could have survived that crash that killed him nearly two years ago if porsche had not skimped on safety. Thats according to a lawsuit that was filed on behalf of walkers 16yearold daughter meadow. It suggests walker actually survived the impact of that crash, but it was the fire that killed him. The suit also alleges multiple design flaws in the vehicle that could have prevented it. The widow of the driver who died in that crash filed a similar lawsuit last year. The news4 iteam first told you about the growing number of minors getting their hands on cigarettes around our region. Well, tomorrow the Montgomery County council could stiffen the fine for stores that sell smokes to minors. Right now the fine is 500 for the first offense. 750 for a second. A vote tomorrow could increase that fine to 1,000 for the very first offense that is the highest fine allowed under state law. And its not the most expensive thing at the grocery store. But cereal you eat for breakfast is starting to cost more. Cereal prices have gone up about 7 in the past five years, a faster hike than most items on the shelves. And a lot of times the cereal makers are disguising the hikes by increasing the package size. It targets the mindset that buying in bulk means discounted prices. Demand is down because buyers are looking for faster and healthier option. Theyve gone to greek yogurt, power bars. Anywhere that they can get the protein that is going to give them the right nutrition for the day is what theyre seek out.
