Started to turn ugly here around 10 15 to 10 30. We are at the intersection of pennsylvania and north avenues. This is the area where we saw the looting and rioting just on monday night. Take a look here just beyond the crowd. Theres a police wagon. That is where they are putting some of the protestors who are arrested. Lets go to the video. We were here this evening when there was one protestor who was arrested. Apparently he was pepper sprayed. Let me tell you what happened first. You know the curfew was in effect. And police they told people they had to get off the streets. Theres a helicopter circling above telling people you must go home you must go home. There was a crowd over in the corner. And i personally saw bottles being thrown across the intersection. You could hear them smashing onto the pavement. At one point, the crowd started to surge toward police and thats when police went in with the pepper spray. We know pepper spray was deployed. And in this one particular protestor, we know he was hit and was lying down on the ground. Youre seeing that video. He was taken into custody, but he was moaning, they were pouring water over his face. It hurts a lot when you get hit with pepper spray. So im sure his eyes were burning, they were pouring water over him and literally dragged him across the street and placed him over here in an area where they were putting other protestors as well. They did tend to him for several minutes over here. And then he was eventually put on a stretcher and then taken to a local hospital. We can tell you that there were several people who were taken into custody here tonight. We dont know if they were involved in any other criminal activity in the bottle throwing or anything like that but we know they were out here past the curfew and police have told folks, if youre out here past the curfew you are subject to arrest. And we are back out here live you can see the crowd here live on the corner where the police wagon is. Where they are putting the people who have been arrested so far this evening. A heavy Police Presence out here tonight. Things seem to be calming down just a little bit right now, chris. Darcy, all day, folks out there were peaceful even happy. What changed, is this a Different Group of people out there now. Reporter this was a day of celebrations. It felt like a block party if you have been to one. People are out in the streets celebrating, they happy, playing music and chanting. Then all of a sudden at 10 30, thats when this large group decided they werent going to abide by the curfew. We dont know if this was planned or what exactly they were up to but they did sort of surge toward police a couple of bottles were thrown and it got ugly very quickly. Thank you very much. But a lot has happened over the days between, including charges against the Six Police Officers allegedly involved in the arrest and death of freddie gray. Among the speakers, the uncle of oscar grant who was killed by police in oakland in 2009. That officer was convicted and in jail. And he cannot be the only one. Baltimore, we have to make it happen here thats what this is about reporter for many in the crowd, it was a personal experience with general Law Enforcement and the general mood in the city that can lead to incidents like the one involving gray. I didnt want to be lynched or castrated. Reporter he looked for respite in charm city. I found more in Baltimore City than in northern atlanta. Reporter there was a lot of togetherness in this crowd. Still the Police Presence was highly visible, though they too, seemed more relaxed amid objections to their presence. We dont need any more army men in our streets. We dont need any more ak47s in our streets. We dont need any more riot police. Reporter but they have become a mainstay in a city under a curfew. One young speaker told the crowd policing should come from within the community itself and without arms or uniforms. And we have to learn how to teach our children to love themselves to do positive things and be positive people. Reporter the rallies and the marchs are front and center now.
