Tonight neighbors want to know if they should be worrying. News4s shomari stone is in arlington where police are trying to put peoples minds at ease. But theyre still not naming a suspect yet. Reporter doreen and jim, police have not identified a person of interest or a suspect in this case. Dr. Bonnie blacks body was found behind me in her home. Tonight her neighbors, people who live in the Arlington County community are concerned what happened because police have not made an arrest. Tonight crime scene tape surrounds the house where 42yearold bonnie black was killed last friday morning. Crime scene investigators are inside processing the scene. Tonight we learned how she was killed. The cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest and incisions to the neck. Had the suspect been found and are the children receiving counseling . Am i being paranoid to not let my kids go out . Reporter tonight at a community meeting, this packed room is concerned a killer is possibly on the loose. Police say there is no danger in the community, even though they have not identified a suspect or person of interest in the case. Was this random or was this woman targeted . You know its really impossible for us to say whether she was targeted or not. Reporter dr. Bonnie black was a psychologist who did contract work for the fbi. The mother of a 3yearold boy and a 5yearold girl. A neighbor saw the kids distraught in their pajamas, in the street in front of their house about 7 50 last friday morning. The neighbor called police and officers found their mothers body inside the house. Dr. Black was separated from her husband, and they were scheduled to have a Divorce Court proceeding this week. Tonight we Learned Police have responded to domestic disputes at the house months before the murder. Dr. Blacks husband now lives around two blocks away from her. Police say he is cooperating with the investigation. You mention that the husband is cooperating with your investigation. Does that mean that he has been eliminated as a person of interest . Reporter thats a good question. Now police did not tell fuss he has been eliminated. But they do say that he is not a person of interest or suspect and this investigation is ongoing. As for the children well tonight they are still with Child Protective Services and Arlington County police urge anyone with information about this murder to give them a call. Park. Police say 24yearold glen vertgreen is facing charge. Police released this video of interest earlier but have not said if that was green. Officers say green followed a jogger at Meridian Hill park and forced her into an alley where he raped her. Doug hughes should have been blown out of the air. And in fact there were several guns pointed directly at him. When he landed, a small aircraft on the Capitol Grounds as part of a protest last week. All of that tonight from one of the congressmen reviewing the incident. Our Jackie Bensen is live on capitol hill now where Security Officers are going have to answer questions next week. Jackie . Reporter well jim, the lawmakers indicated to us that they would not have had a problem with the use of deadly force in this situation. As far as were concerned, this is an extremely urgent situation. I think if youre going to do that and come down if it was up to me, i would have i would have taken care of the problem. Reporter House OversightCommittee Jason chaffetz of utah and Ranking MemberElijah Cummings of maryland spoke to reporters after an hourlong classified briefing by those in charge of security at the u. S. Capitol and the white house. The two expressed concern that gyrocopter pilot doug hughes was able to travel undetected through 30 miles of the most restricted airspace in the United States. They confirmed Law Enforcement officers were poised to use deadly force on hughes, who says his flight was a protest to draw attention to Campaign Finance reform. Ere briefed that there were multiple weapons trained on this gyrocopter and they elected not to fire on the gyrocopter. Reporter cummings and chaffetz were concerned at the lack of what they call interagency communication. Where the two entities were working together and thats human error. They admitted it was human error. Totally unacceptable. Theyre sitting literally shoulder to shoulder and did not do the job they were supposed to do. Reporter house leaders have scheduled a hearing on this matter for next wednesday. And they did say tonight they warned that the agencies that did not show up for todays briefing the faa, norad and u. S. Capitol is the place to be on memorial day and on the fourth of july. But there is a new plan reported first here on 4 that could close the building to almost everybody during those celebrations. Members of congress and staffers there routinely invite friends to watch the fireworks, enjoy the concerts and to attend a huge party. But now the Capitol Police say those parties are out of hand, and a security risk. Taxpayers spent 250,000 on security for just those two events last year. Now congressional leaders have agreed to limit access to the capitol terraces and to move the party to the botanic gardener gardens across the street. The beautiful start to spring its cold out there tonight. And doug its going to stay that way. What . Yeah i think its going to stay that way for maybe well over a week. A story in baltimore where five of the six officers who arrested freddie gray have now given statements to investigators. And governor larry hogan, he is not going to order a state investigation into grays death, saying he doesnt want to politicize the case. Demonstrators came out again tonight as they have just about every night since gray died on sunday. A lot of them criticized a statement from the president of baltimores police union, who initially compared the protesters to a lynch mob. He later said he was afraid the crowds could get hostile. But admitted there are problems between some officers and the community. Are there some bad apples out there . Id be the first to admit we need to improve the relationship between the Police Department and the community. And i think that needs to start with training. Because quite honestly ive seen i get information people calling here and its just like the Police Officers dont talk to us. Reporter police say gray was in a high crime area had a knife and ran away when officers tried to detain him. Video shows them loading him into a police van. And police say gray had some sort of medical emergency. But there is evidence that van stopped several times before it got to the precinct. Gray suffered a severe spinal cord injury and slipped into a coma. Now two other civil rights organizations are launching their own independent investigation. Theyre going to hold a press conference at the exact spot where gray was arrested. Doreen . Chris lawrence thank you. New tonight, that investigation into Excessive Force in baltimore, and others in South Carolina and tulsa, oklahoma are leading to calls for congressional hearings on police body cameras. South carolina senator tim scott is requesting those hearings. He says cameras would better protect officers and the people they serve. Senator Lindsey Graham leads one of the committees that would host the hearings. He says its a great idea, but so far nothing has been scheduled. And a grand jury is going to decide if a Fairfax CountyPolice Officer will face charges for shooting and killing an unarmed man. Officer adam torres shot john geer in 2013. During a standoff. Others say he had his hands up. Sussex county just agreed to pay 3 million to settle a wrongful death suit. The commonwealth there says he hopes the grand jury will reach a decision by tend of the summer. In virginia a foster father has been locked up accused of killing his 1yearold foster son. Investigators say karon mason suffered burns to his face his torso, and his neck all of this back in january. Sheriffs deputies believe that David Marcussen bathed karon in scalding hot water. The boy died a month later. Marcussen and his wife had been taking care of the child since july of last year. Shortly after the baby was born. Marcussen is being held now without bond. She has been waiting for nearly two months. Tomorrow president obamas nominee to lead the Justice Department will finally get a vote. Police say the suspect was a man named mario valencia and that he was on a crime spree that day. That spree included the theft of a highpowered rifle from a walmart. On an audiotape that was just released officer rapiejko explains to investigators why he took the man down in the way that he did. Knowing what i believed to be a locked and loaded based on the round he fired into the air, there are two occupied businesses there are two other officers attend of the street. This is what i deem at this point to be a lethal force encounter. Rapiejko has been cleared of any criminal charges. An administrative review is under way. Associate dean of students nicole araimo sent a fourpage letter to the magazine today that read in part Rolling Stone deeply damaged me personally and professionally using me as the personification of a heartless administration. As a result she has received threatening email even some suppressing the hope that she will be raped. She has hired a law firm that specializes in defamation suits, but has not said yet whether she plans to sue the magazine. Some Business Owners in maryland have filed a Discrimination Suit against mgm. The Prince Georges County businesses claim that they were purposely left out of the bidding process to build the new casino at national harbor.
