Tonight, many streets surrounding the National Mall have been closed and barricades are up, and the Nations Capital stands ready for inauguration day. This is such a rare opportunity. The traffic has been more congested this time than it was in 2009. Reporter many tourists are already in town, but officials are expecting a smaller crowd than 2009, when 2 Million People showed up to witness mr. Obama be sworn in as the nations first africanamerican president. Hopefully i can get up close and personal with michelle and barack. I know that wont happen, but im looking forward to seeing them and congratulating them. Reporter hundreds of thousands are expected to subway to the mall for the inauguration. Metro will provide 17 consecutive hours of rush hour service, from 4 00 in the morning until 9 00 at night. And theyre charging peak rates. Its different for me, because i havent rode them before, but i love it. Its very exciting. Reporter metro has sold all of its 100,000 commemorative smart trip cards. There was a rush today to buy the final few. Ive been to about two different metro stations before getting here and i got them. Reporter again, metro is opening its doors at 4 00 in the morning. You are urged to have your smart trip card ready, loaded with money. That way you dont have to wait in line. You can go ahead and get into the subways. Theyre expected to be packed tomorrow. So the best option is metro, walking, even riding a bike. Lets look at the metro map, if youre taking metro. The smithsonian archives, theyre all closed. But if youre taking metro, heres probably your best bet. Federal center southwest, capital south, union station, even foggy bottom if you want to be down by the lincoln memorial. Remember about metro, you really shouldnt transfer tomorrow if you dont have to. Theres going to be limited parking at end of the line stations and metro opens at 4 00 a. M. And running until 2 00 a.
