important commuter news involving metro. escalators are back open at the bethesda metro station after six months of long repairs. commuters had been using one stationary escalator to get in and out of morning. >> reporter: good moing, eun. her name is jennifer mi. eryone referred to her as the hiccup girl after she was on the "today" show. this is video from 2007. she claimed she culdn't stop her hiccup. 50 times a minute. they mysteriously went away. she was also reported as missing twice, only to be found safe. but this morning she's in real trouble. she, along with two men, all from st. petersburg, florida are charged in the murder of shannon griffin. they say meade's mug shot. she lured the man in a home where the men robbed him at gunpoint and shot him after a struggle. the victim died on the scene. meade is just 19 years old. she and the two other suspects admitted their involvement. all three charged with felony murder. eun, back to you. >> kimberly, thank you for that update. today one of the most anticipated trials in this country is about to get under way. opening statements are scheduled to begin at 10:00 this morning in the trial of the man accused of killing chandra levy tracee wilkins joins us live from d.c. superior court. >> reporter: good morning, joe. opening statemts are beginning today. some are predicting will be an uphill battle for the prosecuti prosecion. it's the beginning of one of the most controversial murder cases and is expected to be one of the hard toast prosecute. the nine-year-old murder case is wrought with errors, according to legal experts. the prosecutor admitted that mistakes made early on have left virtually no physical or forensic evidence. no eyewitnesses, no dna and no weapons. >> everything that would link him to t scenef the crime, no dna, no fiber of clothing, a hair, something that would make it more difficult for the defense to explain why he is guilty. >> reporter: for two months, instigators focused on one suspect, congressman gary condit. he admitted to having an affair with levy, then a federal intern. he was imprisoned for attacking two and was serving time about police charged him with levy's case last year. the break came from ll mates. >> the government is going to try to argue that the method he used was a signature, that with the way that he attacked his women was no different than the way dehydration and death in hours. it made 3,000 sick. about 46% of the deaths are happening in health facilities like this one. the cholera outbreak hit after heavy rains caused a local river to flood the area. officials are saying the situation appears to be stabilizing with the opening of several cholera clinics. the hope is the disease does not spread to the heavily populated capital of the sudden death of a uva graduate and prominent american athlete. fran crippen died during a swimming competition yesterday in dubai. the 26-year-old was competing in the 10 kilometer world cup but never finished. after a two-hour srch divers found his body in the open water. >> they were weeping openly. they were sad because one of theirs had gone missing. >> some other swimmers who participated in the race had complained that the water temperature was too high. but health officials say overexertion was the cause of death and heat was not a factor. federal agents agents are now part othe investigation into what caused a devastating fire at a historic alexandria church. they are assisting firefighters in determining the cause of that fire. much of the main chapel at the seminary was destroyed after flames eruptedn friday. investigators had to wait several days until the charred remains were stable enough to enter. for many parishioners the loss is more sentimental for months folks have been schlepping up a nonworking escalat escalator basically a set of stairs. nonworking escalator from the platform up to the fare card area. they did a major overhaul on one of the escalators. completely took it out to do that work. riders gng up and down have had to share a single stationary escalator. basically reduced to a set of stairs. and that's caused major problems here. the big choke point is everyone has to slow down and go up this nonworkingscalator. it was an issue for folks who had issues in terms of health and age. good news here, the escalator is back up and running. this is the first rush hour we will see that back in service. although some are cautiously optimistic. >> it was very hard. i'm kind of a big guy. and walking up thatscalator it was really hard a lot of days. it wore me out. sometimes taking 10 15 minutes just to get up the escalator. it's been a real inconvenience. it's finally fixed. i'm glad beuse, oh, it was a lot. >> you overhauli one of the escalators in order to do that work, they had to shut the second escalator down. they were running two-way traffic up and down on that one escalator. people had to walk. the good news here is that work has been completed. the escalators are pack up and running. so it should not be a problem for people this morning. good news for folks who use the station. eun, back to you. everyone referred to hers the hiccup girl after she was on the "today" show. she, along with two men, all from st. petersburg, florida are charged in the murder of shannon griffin. she lured the man into a home where the men robbed him at gunpoint and shot him after a struggle. she and the two other suspects admitted their involvement. the cholera outbreak hit after hey rains caused a local river
