massachusetts avenue in northwest washington. police released few details about the stabbing. the woman was taken to the hospital. she is expected to be okay. police have made no arrests in the case. this morning, d.c. police warning taxicab passengers, especially women, after a string of attacks. seven taxi drivers are facing charges for allegedly attacking passengers in recent weeks. six of the seven victims are women. one was allegedly dragged out of the cab by her ankles. another was allegedly punched. legislation being impose today to install panic buttons in all d.c. cabs to alert police when there's a problem. >> drivers have been robbed. drivers have been assaulted. also for passengers because this is wholly unacceptable, obviously. but on action, we have drivers who actually assault passengers. and the primary victim is a woman. >> those panic buttons are expected to be installed in d.c. cabs by december. in little more than a week, a grand jury will begin hearing evidence in the trayvon martin case. the 17-year-old was shot to death by george zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain in sanford, florida. zimmerman claims he shot mart anyone self-defense. police say they have not filed charges in the case because of florida's stands your ground law. alexandria, virginia, is one of several cities across the country that held rallies for justice this weekend. protesters say zimmerman should be arrested, and the florida law should be repealed. alexandria city leaders are among those who want to see this case go through the justice system. >> we should always be about the business of -- if a crime takes place and the police have apprehended the accused, that, you know, that the normal process is followed in terms of be only arresting but -- not only arresting but a trial and a decision rendered. >> several people wore hoodies in support of the cause. the event also included a moment of silence for trayvon martin. >> no justice -- >> no peace! >> martin's parents attended a rally in his hometown of miami. his family disputes zimmerman's self-defense claim. they believe race played a role in the shooting. the crowd included miami -- the crowd decision 2012. it is do or die for the gop candidates. today is the last day of campaigning before tomorrow's primaries in maryland, d.c., and wisconsin. mitt romney is predicting he'll come out on top. the former governor told a crowd in madison, wisconsin, last night that he will probably win the nomination. in the state-by-state battle to accumulate more than 1,100 delegates needed to win the presidential nomination, romney has an estimated 565 delegates. that is according to real clear politics. wisconsin's senator ron johnson endorsing mitt romney. he made the announcement on "meet the press." johnson pointed to romney's experience in the private sector as a major reason for backing the candidate. in a statement, romney said he looked forward to working with the senator on the campaign trail. presidential hopeful rick santorum says he will not drop out of the race for president if he loses tomorrow's primaries. santorum faces an uphill battle. so far romney has won 54% of the delegates at stake, putting him on track to reach the 1,144 delegates needed by the end of june. rick santorum has won 27% of the delegates at stake. that means he would need to win 74% of the remaining delegates in order to clinch the nomination. a major donor to suspected gunman accused of fraud and impersonating a bank official. the man contributed more than $50,000 to obama's re-election effort this year. according to the "washington post," the new yorker is accused of defrauding a florida businessman out of $657,000. he also phase a court order to pay more than $10,000 in back rented for her former new york apartment. supporters of bringing a casino to prince george's county are trying to win over state delegates. according to the "washington post," advocates are considering several amendments to support pending legislation. one would set a higher investment from developers and already required. another amendment could include road improvements. prince george's county is pushing for a casino at the national harbor. the senate gave preliminary approval to the gaming expansion bill. it would allow for a sixth casino in maryland and legalized table games. supporters of wind energy in maryland will rally around their cause tonight in annapolis. backers of offshore wind development will hold a demonstration at the maryland state house. supporters plan to gather in a circle around that building. they will hold glow in the dark miniature wind turbines and wear electric blue t-shirts. a wind energy bill is in the finance committee after the house approved its version last week. to you towson university will remember two students who died within 12 hours of each other this weekend. a vigil will be held for 20-year-old ryan bailey and the players association told the players involved that they should look into hiring legal help. the nfl says more than 20 defensive players were part of the saints' bounty program which gave out cash rewards to players who injured certain opponents. legal experts say it will be a very difficult case as players would have to prove that a specific tackle caused an injury. a technical problem is to blame for keeping some visa customers from using their credit and debit cards. a visa spokesperson says customers were not able to use their cards for about 45 minutes yesterday because of an update to the system. the problem has since been fixed. the incident is not related to friday's security breach. someone hacked global payments, a company that processes credit transactions for stores. visa and mastercard say they've notified their cardholders about the breach. coming up on 20 minutes after the hour. the wife of the jetblue pilot whose outburst forced an emergency landing says he wasn't being intentionally violent toward anyone. connie osmon says she's simply focused on her husband's recovery and won't be giving any more interviews. last week, clayton osmon became belligerent during a flight from new york to las vegas. he eventually had to be restrained by passengers as the flight made an emergency landing in texas. jetblue officials say the crew will not speak publicly about this incident. a new report set to be released today says airline performance is better now than last year. the report is based on 2011 data submitted to the department of transportation by the nation's 15 largest airlines. and here are some of the highlights -- hawaii airlines took the top performance with 92% of their flights on time or early. jetblue airways had the worst on-time performance. airtran had the best baggage handling rate. american eagle airlines had the worst handling rate for baggage. southwest airlines had the lowest consumer complaint rate, and united airlines had the most consumer complaints. this morning we're learning virginia schools really hit the jackpot in that historic mega millions drawing. the virginia lottery says tickets bought between late january and last friday raised more than $21 million for education. virginia retailers that sold tickets earned more than $2.4 million in profits. mega millions hopefuls bought more than 14 million lottery tickets on friday in virginia alone. three tickets hit the $640 million jackpot. they were sold in illinois, kansas, and baltimore county, maryland. and for those of us who didn't win the mega massachusetts avenue. that's in northwest washington. police released very few details about that stabbing. we know the woman was taken to the hospital, and she is expected to be okay. police have made no arrests in this case, but they're going to continue the investigation into the night. later this morning, we're going to hear directly from prince george's county police about a spike in violence over the weekend. >> that's right. officers responded to four separate shootings within a 48-hour period. eight people were hurt and three people killed. derek ward is live at police headquarters with more. derek, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. indeed, a busy weekend for prince george's county police. they remain busy. later today they will update us on the investigations into the shootings. three people were shot and wounded friday night. that's where it started. in an apartment complex in adelphi. this happened in the 6700 block of northwest drive. injuries are described as non-life-threatening. police believe this -- that shooting may stem from a domestic incident. later, half past midnight, another shooting. this one in the lewis dale section of prince george's county. police found a 19-year-old man dead in the street in the 2 h02 block of woodbury drive. two women were shot in suitland. one died, another suffered a leg wound. sunday morning, another double shooting. this time two men shot. it happened in the 2700 block of judith avenue in district heights. one of the victims has died in that shooting, as well. we hope that police will announce that there's been at least an arrest in one of these cases. we don't know for sure. that's supposed to happen at about 10:30. we expect to be briefed directly by chief mcgraw on a charge osama bin laden's three widows for living in the country illegally. the three women have been in pakistani custody since the u.s. navy s.e.a.l.s. raided bin laden's kpand last year. he was killed in the raid. if convicted, the women face prison time. four british sailors are recovering this morning after a monster wave crashed into their yacht. it happened in the pacific ocean about 200 miles off the west coast. the u.s. coast guard had to rescue two of the sailors who had suffered serious injuries. the sailors were taking part in an around the world race when a 30-foot wave crashed into their boat. the rescue effort took longer than expected because of bad weather. the sailors are happy to be back on dry land. >> sleep deprived, looking forward to beds and showers and hopefully to cold beers. >> two of the injured sailors only have minor injuries and are heading back to the coast on their own. passengers on a cruise ship in the philippines are breathing a sigh of relief as they docked yesterday after being stranded at sea. a fire broke out on the ship destroying an engine and leaving the ship drifting for more than 24 hours. more than 1,000 people were on board. luckily, they had air conditioning, running water, and plumbing. the ship was traveling from the philippines to malaysia when the fire broke out. five crew members suffered smoke inhalation. no one else was hurt. 5:35. this morning a family is mourning the loss of five relatives killed on their way from spring break. officials say 18 people were packed inside an r.v. when it crashed on interstate 35 south of topeka, kansas. the family was on its way from texas to minnesota when the r.v. veered into a ravine 30-feet deep. the survivors were taken to the hospital. federal investigators are looking into reports of engine fires in the cheverolet cruise and jeep wrangler suv. the national highway traffic safety administration got two reports of fires in the 2011 cruise model. in both cases the fires began while the cars were moving. the agency received eight reports of fires in the 2010 wrangler. most fires began while the suv was in motion. general motors and the chrysler group say they are cooperating with the investigation. they also say there have been no accidents or injuries related to the engine fires. former president bill clinton is helping transform a d.c. community. he brought his global initiative to the district. the goal is to turn good intentions into action. that's exactly what a teen did kelly middle school northeast. the former president and his daughter chelsea joined college students and spruced up the neighborhood. the group did yardwork, house maintenance, and sent care packages for overseas troops. the global initiative issue of what parents feel are early start times for students. right now school buses pick up kids before 6:00 a.m. so they can start classes at 7:20. the board is looking at a proposed start time of 8:00 a.m. parents feel students are not getting adequate sleep, citing health issues that come from lack of sleep. the board will vote on the measure on april 12. earth had a close encounter with a huge asteroid. a space rock the size of a passenger jet zoomed past the planet at exactly 5:32 yesterday morning. nasa scientists say the asteroid came within 143,000 miles of earth. the rook passed 2012 coverage. do or die for the gop candidates. today is the last day of campaigning before tomorrow's primaries in maryland, d.c., and wisconsin. mitt romney predicting he will come out on top. the former governor told a crowd in madison, wisconsin, last night he will probably win the nomination. in the state-by-state battle to accumulate the more than 1,100 delegates needed to win the nomination, romney has an estimated 565 delegates. that's according to real clear politics. wisconsin senator ron johnson is endorsing mitt romney. he made the announcement on "meet the press." he pointed to romney's experience in the private sector as a major reason for backing the candidate. in a statement, romney said he looked forward to working with the senator on the campaign trail. and presidential hopeful rick santorum says he will not drop out of the race for president if heoses the primaries. the former pennsylvania senator vowed to stay in until it's clear that romney secured the delegates required for the noimz. santorum does face an uphill battle. so far, romney has won 54% of the delegates at stake, putting him on track to reach the 1,144 delegates needed by the end of june. santorum has won 27% of the delegates. that means he would need to win 74% of the remaining delegates to clinch the nomination. a major donor to president obama is accused of fraud and impersonating a bank official. the man contributed more than $50,000 to obama's re-election effort this year. according to the "washington post," the new yorker is accused of defrauding a florida businessman out of $657,000. he also faces a court order to pay more than $10,000 in back rent for her former new york apartments. this morning, d.c. police warning taxicab passengers, especially women, to be safe after a string of attacks. seven taxi drivers are facing charges for allegedly attacking passager in recent weeks. six of the seven victims have been women. one was allegedly dragged out of the cab by her ankles. another was allegedly punched. there is legislation being proposed to install panic buttons in all d.c. cabs to alert police when there's a problem. >> drivers have been robbed, drivers have been assaulted. and also for passengers because this is wholly unacceptable, obviously. on occasion we do have drivers who actually assault passengers. and the primary victim is a woman. >> the panic buttons are expected to be installed in d.c. cabs by december. d.c. police say a man involved in a robbery now faces charges in a shooting near an early voting site in the district. the shooting happened outside the takoma community center in northwest washington saturday afternoon. police say a man shot in the shoulder was actually involved in a robbery. investigators say he was one of three masked men who tried to rob a group near the rec center. rescuers took the man to the hospital. police arrested him a short time after. election officials stopped voting for about 20 minutes. saturday was the last day for early voting in the district before tomorrow's primary. next week a grand jury will begin hearing evidence in the controversial shooting death of tray von martin. the 17-year-old was shot to death by george zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain, in sanford, florida. zimmerman claims he shot mart anyone self-defense. police say they have not filed charges in this case because of florida's stand your ground law. alexandria, virginia, one of several cities across the country that held rallies for justice. protesters say zimmerman should be arrested and the florida law should be repealed. >> you know, every american feels the need to step up and be heard when something unjust and unfair has occurred. and when we see the kind of situation that occurred in sanford, it really tears at everybody's soul. we do not want to see a child gunned down and then nothing essentially being done about it. >> alexandria mayor bill uall spoke at the rally. that event included a moment of silence for martin. a new book about the 1994 deaths of nicole brown and ron goldman claims that o.j. simpson's son committed the murders. private investigator william deer's book, "o.j. is innocent, and i can prove it" hits shelves today after a 17-year investigation. deer says he has found circumstantial evidence that leads jason simpson, who is now 41 years old, to those murders. deer says he found a hunting knife that forensic investigators say is the weaponid? jason simpson's storage unit. he claims he found photographs of jason simpson wearing a knit cap similar to one discovered at the crime scene. o.j. simpson was the prime suspect for the 1994 murders. he was acquitted in 1995. doctors say they're seeing a dramatic rise in the number of young adults with skin cancer. researchers at the mayo clinic say between 1970 and 2009, melanoma increased eightfold in women under the age of 40. it quadrupled in men under 40. experts suggest tanning beds are to blame. death rates from melanoma fell during the same period, suggesting early interventions may be helping to save some lives. if you're getting an early start, want to get a
