developments in decision 2012. rick santorum now endorsing his once-rival mitt romney. in an e-mail he urged supporters to join him in supporting romney. the support comes after the two met. in his message he reminded supporters of areas where he disagreed with romney during the primaries. he also said that he and romney agree that president obama must be defeated. president obama plans to lay out an election year to do list for congress today. he's pushing congress to eliminate tax incentives for companies that ship jobs overseas and new tax credits for small business small businesses and clean energy. the president will discuss the plan in new york and discuss about helping homeowners refinance on friday. he's said lawmakers have blocked his agenda even though millions of americans are out of work. mitt romney also talking economics and personally taking credit for the resurgence of the auto industry. the presumptive presidential nominee told a cleveland tv station he deserve a lot of credit for ushering companies through a managed bankruptcy. romney opposed the use of federal funds for a bailout. the president and others say taxpayer money was the only option. one of the women murdered inside an ellicott city church will be buried today. mourners will gather at the cathedral of incarnation in baltimore to remember mary marguerite cohn. on thursday, brenda brewington will be laid to rest in ellicott city. a homeless man gunned down the priest and church employee last thursday after he was turned away from the church's food bank. he then turned the gun on himself. in the john edwards campaign corruption trial, a former friend will retake the stand testifying for the prosecution. tim tobin described picking up edwards' pregnant mistress in the middle of the night. a long-time lawyer for aires bunny mellon testified his client gave thousands to edwards as a personal gift, not as a campaign contribution. after he testified, edwards whispered to his daughter, "it was a good morning for the home team." edwards denies the charges. prince harry accepted an award for his charitable work with wounded soldiers during a black tie event in d.c. news4 was there when the prince slipped out the back door of the ritz carlton downtown. he was at the 2012 atlantic council's annual awards dinner. he received the distinguished humanitarian leadership award, a boatcident moments before the crash. the video shows the 16-year-old hungarian student through or life vest to a deck hand who jumped overboard a few seconds hit by a barge on the delaware river in philadelphia. a judge will now determine how much the two companies will pay for their roles in the collision. the trial expected to last about a month. the white house says it is concerned about a maryland man kidnapped in pakistan but says it does not and will not negotiate with al qaeda. the terrorist group released a video of warren weinstein from rockville. in it, the 70-year-old man said he would be killed if president obama did not agree to al qaeda's demands. white house spokesman jay carney said the administration condemns the kidnapping and called for weinstein's release. attorneys for two penn state administrators want charges against their clients dropped. the two are accused of lying to a grand jury and failure to report an alleged locker room assault by jerry sandusky. they say the charges should be dismissed because the statute of limitations has expired. the attorneys represent penn state's athletic director who is on leave and a fired vice president for business. they are making this new claim after the attorney general's office filed papers with the court saying the alleged attack took place in february of 2001 rather than march of 2002. the judge in the roger clemens perjury trial is asking both prosecutors and the defense to speed things up. the trial is already in its fourth week. prosecutors had said they might have star witness, brian mcnamee, testified today. now it looks like he won't make it until next week. a fire department says a local radio host who died stole half a million dollars from the department. drazey was a long-time personality in montgomery county and served as treasurer for middleburg's fire department. the department says drazey stole from the fund the last three years. he died of a gunshot wound april 16. investigators do not believe it was foul play. the embezzlement charges were disclosed in a news conference last night. today a group of lawyers will will go to court in hampton roads, virginia, to try to save a dog's life. a st. bernard named alchemy is scheduled to be euthanized for biting members of several foster families. the lawyers claim it's not the dog's fault, and the foster families provoked the animal. the lawyers are part of a group called the lexus project that defends animals in court cases. d.c. will pay out thousands to a handful of people who challenged their drunk driving convictions. the attorney general's office says the district will give four people $20,000. they were part of a group of 20 who said their convictions were based on breathalyzer scores from machines that were uncalibrated and, therefore, inaccurate. the other 16 cases are pending. last february police were ordered to stop using the machines because of those inaccurate test results. this morning a man could face charges in a bizarre incident following a crash in prince william county. chopper 4 flew over the scene last night. virginia state police say a car pulled out from the shoulder right into the path of a van near sudley in manassas. after the crash, the driver of the car apparently ran into traffic and jumped on four cars, even smashing the windshield of one. crews flew the man to the hospital. no one else was hurt in that incident. state police say they will release more information once the man is released from the hospital. metro says it now knows what caused some brake parts to fall off of trains causing major delays earlier this year. according to a report obtained by the "washington post," mechanical fatigue caused the friction rings to fall off those rail cars. metro says fatigue to the rings similar to a brake davie county a car caused them to -- brake davie county a car caused them to fail before their intended life span. one fell off damaging two cars and delaying service for hours on the orange and blue lines. another fell off in january near the stadium armory station. smartphones have become a big target for thieves on metro. but this morning, in a news4 exclusive, amazing video showing riders taking the matter into their own hands. it happened last month on the red line during the evening rush. check out the upper left of the platform. that apparently is the moment a thief snatches an iphone from a rider's hand. but as he is running from the station, angry passengers follow. they surround him, and when he tries to make another break, they get physical, wrestling him to the ground. ultimately police arrived to arrest the man. metros says thefts dropped 40% between 2010 and 2011. despite the good deed, metro prefers riders call police rather than take matters into their own hands. phillies pitcher coles ham ills is paying the price for welcoming brice harper to the big leagues. he is suspended for five games and will pay a fine for drilling harper in the back with a fastball in the game. hamills admitted that the pitch was intentional and just an old-school way to welcome the rooky to the majors. harper is taking the high road. >> you know, hamills threw a good game tonight. you got to give the props to him. he came out and threw the ball well. you know, there's -- nothing we can do about it. you know, accident dramatically increase when they're with young passengers. aaa researchers found a 16-year-old or 17-year-old driver's risk of death goes up 44% when they have just one passenger younger than 21 in the car. the risk doubles with two passengers. when an adult is in the car, the risk of an accident drops 62%. aaa says similar studies are more than a decade old, and its research used crash three processing plants leaving 650 people without a job. beef products, inc., is closing plants in iowa, texas, and kansas. only its plant in nebraska will remain open. the company says it could not recover from a tax over how its lean, finely textured beef is made. many supermarkets and restaurants stopped buying the excess meat that's heated and treated with ammonium. the fda says it does not cause a health risk. a second company recalling dog food because of health concerns in south carolina. wellpet is recalling its wellness complete health super 5 mix for large breed puppies. the recall involves five ounce, 15 pound, and 30-pound bags. the bags have best buy date of january 9 through january 11, 2013. the company says it tests all of its food for salmonella prior to shipping and that tests on these bags came back negative. they say they're voluntarily recalling the food out of an abundance of caution. chrysler is recalling more than 127,000 vehicles. there are worries a fuse may overheat and cause loss of control in chargers and other vehicles.
