"in a single blow." monday north korea made a threat against south korea saying they would soon launch special actions that would reduce the south's government to ashes. today all firefighters and paramedics in prince george's county will go door to door testing carbon monoxide detectors. this move comes after five people in one house died of carbon monoxide poisoning yesterday. it happened on shelby drive in oxon hill. marvin chavez says he was worried when his father didn't show up for work. he went to the house and found his father, stepmother, aunt, and two renters dead. the first firefighters called to the scene say they measured some of the highest carbon monoxide levels they've ever encountered in a house. they say the exhaust pipe from the furnace had holes in it, and that allowed the deadly gas to seep into the house. firefighters also say the home did not have a carbon monoxide detector. >> the reality is these people apparently were affected very quickly by a large quantity of carbon monoxide. and without the detector and without the connection of the pipe, we are where we are. >> starting later this morning, firefighters including the chief will test smoke detectors and give out safety information on carbon monoxide detectors across the entire county. this morning, police in the district heights are searching for a gunman in a deadly shooting. you first saw this as breaking news on news4 at 11:00. a man was shot in the head along addison road and died at the hospital. his name has not been released. no word on a motive or arrest. today, two baltimore brothers accused of beating -- of a beating that closely mirrors the charles figley case will head to court. two brothers -- in the trayvon martin case will head to court. two brothers were patrolling on a neighborhood watch in 2010. the brothers who are white and jewish are claiming self-defense. they tried to postpone the trial because of the trayvon martin case. they've dropped request and will appear before a judge instead of a jury. they face 15 years in prison if convicted. mitt romney is closer to winning the republican presidential nomination. the former massachusetts governor swept all five primaries yesterday. he won in connecticut, rhode island, delaware, pennsylvania, and new york. romney now has 831 delegates. that's about 300 shy of the 1,144 needed to win the gop nomination. he told supporters in new hampshire his economic policies will help him win the general election in november. >> to all of the thousands of good and decent americans i've met who want nothing more than a better chance, a fighting chance, to all of you, i have a simple message -- hold on a little longer. a better america begins tonight. >> reporter: at this point, a headache on the toll road trying to get to the beltway westbound. construction has everything shut down. easy detours for you, though. northbound on 95 looking good coming up from quantico. 65 miles per hour. a live shot just south of dumfries shows not too much congesti congestion. back to you. >> matt, thank you. 4:44. 49 degrees. still to come, telling his story. a store manager shot during a drug store robbery is sharing his thoughts about what happened that night. plus, enjoying the limelight. the rather bizarre honor for rg3 as the future redskins quarterback prepares for dra welcome back at 4:46 this morning. george zimmerman's attorney is concerned for his client's safety now that he's out of jail. zimmerman's lawyer says his client continues to receive death threats. he's considering asking a judge for a bodyguard to protect his client. the guard would be paid by taxpayers. zimmerman pled not guilty to second-degree murder for the shooting death of teenager trayvon noirn florida. he posted bail on monday. his attorney has asked for a trial by jury. this morning police are scaling back their search of a missing arizona girl. 6-year-old isabel celis vanished from her tucson home sometime friday night or early saturday morning. 20 officers worked overnight in the case, a sharp drop from the 150 officers since the first grader disappeared. agents are following up on information they collected when fbi dogs searched her home. agents allowed family members back inside. a mental fitness hearing is set this morning for a german man accused of killing his 91-year-old wife. police say albrecht muth strangled and beat his wife in their home. she was a well-known journalist and d.c. socialite. the case has been delayed because of questions over muth's mental health. he has been deemed incompetent to stand trial pending an investigation. the sole survivor of a fiery wreck in chevy chase facing criminal charges. 18-year-old rico richardson was arrested yesterday and charged with theft. he's since been released. police say richardson was a passenger in a stolen car when it ran from police and slammed into a tree in chevy chase circle last month before it burst into flames. the driver and two other passengers died in that crash. a rite-aid store manager shot during a robbery speaks exclusively to news4. surveillance video captured the crime on rhode island avenue in northeast washington. you see the robber approach manager albert mcduffie and demand money. when he didn't move fast enough, the robber shot the father of two. the manager spoke to news4 from his hospital bed. >> i was like, man, i can't believe you just shot me. i can't believe you shot me. maybe i didn't move fast enough. i mean, stuff like this -- it happens. i don't have any -- no remorse over what happened. i mean, i'm still here. i'm in great spirits. just trying to get back on my feet. >> mcduffie is parlized from the waist down. police arrested the suspect, ricky vinston. he did not leave with money, just a pack of candy. a bold step. that's how mayor vincent gray described the senate bill that would give the district more control over its budget. senator joe lieberman of connecticut introduced the legislation yesterday. it would allow the city to spend its local tax dollars without approval from congress. local leader rejected a similar bill drafted pie republican congressman darrell issa last year because it restricted the city's ability to fund abortions. maryland lawmakers may be returning to annapolis for two special legislative sessions. governor martin o'malley says he favors separate sessions, one devoted to passing a budget, and the other to address expanded gambling in the state. >> if we're able to resolve the budget in may and then come back, say, in early august to resolve the open questions on gaming, that would be enough time for it to be on a symbol on the in the fall -- on a ballot in the fall. >> lawmakers failed to reach agreement on the budget during the regular session. if no deal is reached by july 1, a so-called doomsday budget will take effect which will include more than a half billion dollars in cuts. as we mentioned earlier, president obama has been promoting more affordable student loans. somehow, though, one of his speeches on education yesterday sounded just a little different. >> what we said is simple -- now is not the time to make school more expensive for our young people. >> i don't know. i'm happy it looks like he's going to be a redskin. that's -- >> i'm on board with that. >> happy about that. >> all right. 4:55 just about. >> coming up, asking for a little relief. one man's pitch to cut drivers a break if they're caught by d.c.'s speed cameras. plus, a different kind of cheating. the thing a lot of people are admitting they do behind their significant other's backs. a d.c. man opposed to speed camera tickets is sending a message to mayor gray and the city council. earlier this year, mark muller started an online petition asking city leaders to lower the fine, gathered 722 signatures, and mueller just sent the petition to the city leaders, police, and the dmv. police have defended the camera in the past. the department says it chooses locations for speed cameras based on past accidents, proximity to schools, and areas known for chronic speeding. a new survey says that nearly half of couples admit to keeping money secrets from their partner. more than 23,000 people took the online survey from "today" show and "self" magazine and says 37% of men and 56% of women admit that they've lied to their partner about money. the survey found that women are more than twice as likely as men to hide purchases or receipts. when asked why they keep their money secrets, about 1/3 of women said that they earn the money, so they deserve to spend it. >> why is it a secret, though?
