first to deal with is the cold front. brings in the rain chances. can't even rule out chances for rumbles of thunder into this evening. but a warm day today. showers and thunderstorms likely after 2:00, 3:00 this afternoon. tomorrow is the book reading, stay in the house type of a day. it's going to be cold. it's going to be windy. it's going to be wet. pretty much all day on your sunday. five with another woman and agreed to pick the child up at 3:00 yesterday afternoon. the other woman returned to the station nearly 11 hours later than planned at around 4:30 this morning. three more secret service agents are out of a job resigning as the prostitution scandal grows. a total of six agents stepped down. they've also implicated a 12th employee for their role in the scandal that now includes conduct on past presidential trips. for the first time president obama was briefed by the secret service on this investigation. the white house says it's too early to say if culture and leadership is to blame. >> the president does not want to and i certainly do not want to get ahead of the conclusions of the investigation, make broader judgments while the investigation is still underway. >> the lawyer for two secret service supervisors says the president's safety was never at risk. he also criticized leaks in the case signaling a strategy for an upcoming defense. decision 2012 is transitions more towards the general election. when you look at campaign finances, president obama holds the lead compared to mitt romney. he has an edge over the republican candidate. his campaign along with the democratic party raised $53 million in march and has $104 million in cash an hand. romney raised $12.6 million in march. it ended the month with $10 million in his campaign account. superpac is to help ahead of the november election. mitt romney is getting some political support from an old rival, john mccain. the two fought a bitter battle and personal fight against each other in the 2008 nomination. romney and senator mccain showed unity in arizona. mccain praised romney saying he's a principal leader in how to help the economy. >> this race is about the fundamental difference between mitt romney and barack obama. barack obama believes that government creates jobs. mitt romney knows that business creates jobs in america. >> next up on romney's schedule is a campaign event in pennsylvania tomorrow. former florida governor jeb bush says he'd consider running vice president with romney but he doubts he'll be asked. he says that marco rubio is probably the best choice as a running mate. rubio says he's not interested in leaving the senate. a scare for both vice president joe biden and secretary of state hillary clinton after their plane hit by bird mid-air. the plane was not damaged and did not have to make an emergency landing. investigators are examining air force two. the plane landed safely and the vice president took another air force plane home here to d.c. we now know when maryland governor martin o'malley will meet with state leaders to discuss a special session. according to the washington post, he'll sit down with thomas mike miller on tuesday. the meeting is the first step in ending an impasse. they failed to reach a budget earlier this month. no deal by july first could trigger a so-called doomsday budget. metro's spring break is over. that can mean big delays this weekend. three stations on the system's busiest line are close. the tacoma, and rosalyn are shut down. to buses are also replacing intras between the roslin on the blue line. on the orange line expect single tracking. expect headache ifs you're driving downtown this weekend too. the imf is hosting its spring meeting. right now northwest is closed. starting today it will cost more to catch a cab. fares are going up. the old fare was $1.50 per mile. now it's $2.16 per mile. that's a 44% increase. they can only charge a bag fee if they handle bags in the trunk. and only vans can charge a passenger fee if you have over three people. commuters who use the virginia express will soon be spending more. there will be an increase on daily fares. the increase is expected to generate about $900,000 in additional revenue next year. this will pay for rising fuel costs and the cost of day-to-day operations on the railway. the hike takes effect july 1st. a firefighter badly burned while battling a house fire is home with his family. kevin o'toole got hugs and cheers from fellow firefighters as he left the burn unit friday afternoon. o'toole was burned over half his body back in february. the 21-year-old described what the milestone means to him after undergoing so many painful treatments. >> i'm feeling pretty good. it's a great accomplishment from being so badly injured to walking out of here in two months. it's a great privilege to walk out and see everybody. every day is a good day from now on. >> after leaving the hospital, o'toole boarded his fire truck and headed back to visit his station. his next step in recovery is physical therapy. he will be getting treatment in his parents' hometown. looks like he's -- prom season. one of the most exciting times of the year for high school juniors and seniors. also one of the most dangerous. 48 teens are killed on prom weekends in crashes according to the department of transportation. students against destructive decisions claims car accidents are the leading cause of death amongst teens between the ages of 15 and 20. and more than a third of those deadly crashes are alcohol related. montgomery county police are stepping up their efforts to make sure this prom season is safe. they're launching a prom season task force to cut down on underage drinking and keep drunk drivers off the roads. officers will be working overnight shifts on weekends and patrolling areas where proms are being held. >> we know where all the guns are. we then have eight to ten officers who are out patrolling for dui enforcement and to handle the underage drinking parties that occur that we get calls about or get intel about. >> many limousine companies are focusing on keeping teens safe this prom season. they're asking students to sign a pledge not to bring anything illegal with em the. if they break that pledge, th y li mow will bring them home. the driver fled the scene leaving his friends dead or dying in the car. darcy spencer spoke to the family about what changed their family forever. >> i feel like i've aged a hundred years. i have such a whole in my heart. that will never be healed. >> reporter: carrie's son johnny was one of three passengers that was killed in a drunk driving crash one year ago. >> i'll never be the same person i was before i lost my son. >> reporter: hoover remembers coming home after a trip finding everyone there crying. everyone except her son johnny. she knew something was wrong. >> i started to turn around and put my hands over my ears and i ran out the door and started to run away because i didn't want to hear what they had to tell me. my sons grabbed me and pulled my hands away from my ears and told me that johnny was killed. johnny was dead. >> reporter: hoover appeared at a mothers against drunk driving event where experts reveal that 26% of underage drinkers are getting their alcohol from parents or other relatives. >> if we could just save one family from going through the heart ache. but it just keeps happening over and over again. >> reporter: the driver 20-year-old kevin coffey pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison. authorities say he'd been drinking at at least two parties before the crash and fled the scene. >> yes, we're angry. we're angry that he killed my son. and that he ran away and left him to die on the side of the road. >> reporter: although hoover said she talked to her son about the dangers of drinking, she's filled with regret and wonders what, if anything, she could have changed what happened. >> i think parents need to keep on top of it as best they can. i pray for the best. >> reporter: darcy spencer, news4. >> kevin coffey we just mentioned just had his prison sentence reduced drastically. a panel cut his sentence from 20 years to eight years. the parents of those killed in the crash says the reduced sentence sends the wrong message. >> this sentence sends the message that the lives of our three children are virtually meaningless. >> if you're out there and you want to drink and drive, come here because you'll get away with it. and you'll get away with murder like this kid is getting away with. >> prosecutors say coffey could be free on parole as early as next may. i was at that hearing yesterday. it is really sad to see how one decision can have such a drastic effect on so many people. still a year later these families are trying to get over this. it's heart breaking. >> break in the action early on. then an area roaring up the coastline mean possibility of heavy rain from i-95 eastbound out off the eastern shore. as that pulls away, it draws way cold air back down. president obama was briefed on the investigation. a man who killed three of his friends in a drunk driving accident could be out of prison as early as next year. his sentence was lowered from 20 years to just eight. prosecutors say he could be eligible for parole next may. new cab fares go into effect in the district today. also there is no charge if you handle your own bags. and only vans can charge the extra passenger fee for up to three people. there is no fee after the fourth person. the family of a woman brutally murdered in the district is speaking out. the story's first on 4. monday seven men convicted on that hearing. the men are behind bars for the 1984 death of kathryn fuller. the 48-year-old mother of six was walking home near eighth and eight streets. she was beaten, raped, and sodomized. now says some of the men in prison were wrongly convicted. the victim's sister tells me she's disturbed. >> you want to write your book and get paid? write your book. leave us alone. but will you spend the money that you get for your book that you wrote? leave us alone. leave us alone. >> a judge will begin hearing evidence in the case monday morning. a man is in police custody this morning accused of shooting a drugstore employee during a robbery. ricky winston is accused of attempted robbery. a viewer saw this surveillance video on the news. vinceton shot a clerk paralyzing him from the waist down. he has a long criminal history. a surprising turn in the trayvon martin murder case when the man accused took the stand to apologize. >> i want to say i'm sorry for the loss of your son. >> he told the parents he did not know how old their son was or if he was armed. the lawyer says his client wanted to respond. >> he had always wanted to acknowledge what happened that day in the death of trayvon martin. i was hoping that could be accomplished in more private ways. but we weren't afforded that opportunity. >> the martin family says they are devastated by the judge's decision to release zimmerman from jail on a $150,000 bail. at this time, it is unclear if zimmerman will be able to live out of state. however, once he is released from jail, he will be required to wear a gps monitoring bracelet and be under a 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. curfew. teacher is out on bond after firing a gun at students to get their attention in class. 60-year-old teacher lined up 12 students in his welding class, fired blanks at them. it happened at a vocational skill near bristol. dillow faces charges for having a firearm on property. he has a court hearing on the charges next month. a 15-year-old is in prince georges county maryland after a stabbing at school. she stabbed a 17-year-old in the stomach at fairmont heights high school yesterday. a dispute started with comments made on twitter about a wig. some parents say this kind of violence is not unusual. >> it doesn't surprise me that my -- that this happened today. i was somewhere. my daughter called me and said mom, there was a stabbing. so it doesn't surprise me that it happened. >> you're getting your daughter out of here? >> yeah. i'm getting my daughter out. >> the teen stabbed is expected to be okay. police charge the other as a juvenile with assault. this fiery scene on the baltimore washington parkway left traffic at a stand still. a school bus erupted in flames. fortunately there were no kids on the bus at the time. the driver was able to get off without serious injury. northbound lanes were closed while firefighters put out the flames backing up traffic for miles. at this time it's still unclear what caused the fire. a new york handyman denies having anything to do with the zpeers of a boy decades ago. police are tearing up a basement in the 1979 case of -- at the time the handyman othniel miller was a friend of etan's family. a law enforcement official says an fbi dog also detected the scent of human remains in that building. the head of a pakistani airline in a crash is blocked from leaving the country as investigators try to figure out how the crash happened. it tried to land in islamabad during a thunderstorm. all people on board were killed. the airline which just resumed operations blames the weather for the crash. however, investigators say they are looking at the airworthiness of the plane which was an older model 737. you've likely noticed the new trend in our region. gas prices are going down after a four month surge. according to to aa, drivers in the district are paying about $4.14 for regular. that's down a fraction of a penny. maryland's average is $3.91 which dropped two cents in one day. virginia's average also dropped to $3.84. and in west virginia virginia, $3.91. you can thank oil prices for the drop. gas could fall another
