down by the waterfront. how is it looking, derrick? >> well, you know, it doesn't look too bad now. the rain has actually stopped. but these gray skies are what could come. we are that much away from setting records as far as rain totals are concerned. there's actually a flood watch in effect until 7:00 p.m. and if we get an inch or better that puts us above the record. 1 1/2 would top the record for the state. 1932 was the record. rain expected to be heaviest midafternoon when the sweet spot of a 300-mile-wide band of rain will be over us. people in low-lying areas in alexandria are prone to flooding. thunderstorms are expected as well. at this point it doesn't look like much. look at the weather and you can see, as chuck probably told you, there is a lot of rain ahead for us today. the flood watch remains in effect until 7:00 p.m. live in alexandria. back to you. >> thank you, derrick. the man accused of reigning or assaulting more than a dozen women is back in his jail cell after spending the night in a hospital. jail guards found aaron thomas in his cell after he tried to hang himself last time. thomas was arrested friday ending a nationwide manhunt. many of the victims still live in our area. those who live near thomas are reacting to his arrest. news 4's darcy spencer reports. >> reporter: the so-called east coast rapist captured after a 14-year manhunt. after he made a careless mistake. tossing a cigarette butt that was then collected and tested by police. that dna linked 39-year-old aaron thomas to the rapes of more than a dozen women. glen ivy is former state attorney. >> dna is very powerful evidence. juries almost always expect it now given the way it's developed over time. especially the impact of these television shows that use dna frequently. so i'm sure it will be a critical component in the prosecution. >> police say thomas has been linked to 17 rapes and sexual assaults. the attacks happened in prince william and fairfax, leesburg, prince georges and connecticut and rhode island. the first known attack in forestville in 1997. >> dna was collected and subsequently matched by the county kwt state forensic connecticut state forensic sciences lab confirming that thomas was the east coast rapist. >> reporter: according to online record, the unemployed truck drivers has lived in the areas where the attacks occurred. he lived in this room right behind dale city elementary home. the woman in the home now says she's glad he's in custody. >> thank you, jesus. he's off the street. thank god for that one. thank god for that. yes, it's not easy in this house. it's very unsettling to me. >> some residents in the neighborhood say they remember thomas and his fights in the front lawn with a woman. >> there were several domestic disputes with the girlfriend. >> thomas is being held on a million dollar bond. he's facing charges in connecticut and prince william county. he was expected to appear in court on monday. that's in question now that he has been taken to the hospital. new this morning, several fights shut down a local awards show. arlington county police say 1,500 people went to the awards at hyatt in crystal city with when a number of brawls broke out. it had to be shut down early. rescuers took five people to the hospital. no one was seriously hurt. police say no arrests were made. prince george's county police say alcohol could have been a factor in a crash this weekend that killed a largo teenager. investigators say the driver of a mercury grand marquis ran a stop sign on piscataway road. it hit a nissan versa. four passengers from other cars went to hospitals, too, with life-threatening injuries. tpolice are investigating what turned out to be a violent night in the district. since our report saturday morning we know the names of three people killed within hour of each other in southeast. the first homicide took place 11:00 friday night 3000 nelson place southeast. that victim is 36-year-old selena knight. she was stabbed to death. three hours later, vanessa mcgee was shot in 4700 block of b street southeast. and then henry kelly on buena vista terrace. >> we have the ability to help the squad that was on duty at the time. that's what we have done. we have called in extra detectives. and utilizing extra manpower to handle the cases. >> police made an arrest of a second suspect in the second murder for the death of vanessa mcgee. it appears to have been a domestic dispute. police do not appear any of the murders are connected. >> a us aide contractor on trial in cuba will have to wait to see if he has been convicted of krims against the state. at first it was reported he had been found guilty. but this morning a specscouple said no verdict was handed down. gross is charged with supplying internet supplies and satellite supplies to dissidents in cuba's communist government. a statement by the cuban government said gross accepted some responsibility but also blamed the company that sent him to the island. and army private accused of leaking classified information to wikileaks is being forced to sleep naked in jail. that from private first class bradley manning's civilian lawyer in a blog posted this weekend. attorney says the authorities at quantity comade his client take off all his clothes after manning made a sar task report about using the elastic waist band from his underwear to commit suicide. marine corps. officials would not comment on that issue citing privacy rules. manning's attorney called the issue degrading. if you can't get
