gathered to await the word as to whether chicago would win the 2016 olympic games, and this crowd has jus been stunned with news from copenhagen in the first round of voti, and chicagoliminated, out of contention for the 2016 olympics, and this crowd, an audible gp and then silend when it was announced chicago was eliminated from the 2016 games. kevin, the gasps said it all from the crowd. >> reporter: yeah, i don't think that anybody here -- while many people thought they were going to have a tight run for the games, i don't think anybody in chicago thought they would be going out in the first round, considering they spend some $70 million in the runnup for today showing the world just what the city can do. withhe president there and the first lady and oprah and all of the other trip abroad to make this last-minute pitch given the urgency of issues there in washington. what should we expect now? >> i thi we will see a lot of disappointment on the part of the present and the first lady, and this really under scores the risk the president took by making this trip to copenhagen. i can tell you they thought it was a darned if you do and darned if you don't situation. they felt if the president didn't go and chicago lost, all fingers would be pointing at president obama for not giving it everything he had, and on the other hand we now see the risk he took, chicago being eliminated, and not just in general but in the first round. we can assume he received word aboard air force one, and he is flying back as w speak. not clear if they can watch it on television or if they get word from the ground, but we can assume itas bn communid to him. it will feel like a blow. this is something the president first lady felt strongly about. she briefed some of the reporters before she departed for copen hague yen hanhagen an really personal. >> tokyo has now been elimina d eliminated, leaving madrid and r rio dde janeiro. >> a lot of people will try to point the finger
