farther than the front door. >> reporter: as you can see, the investigation continues at this crime scene. it's a joint investigation between metropolitan police and the fbi. we've also seen some atf agents out here, as more is being learned about the alleged gunman and possibly his motivations. team coverage continues at falls church, where the suspect is believed to have taken the metro from his home in herndon. we have exclusive video of the suspect's car, which has been towed away. jackie bensen has more. >> reporter: as far as we can tell, the suspect parked here at the metro station, got on board a metro train with a gun in his backpack, and headed into the district. fbi agencies located the silver dodge neon in the commuter parking lot at the east falls church metro station. they cordened off the area with yellow police tape and took extension i was photos of the vehicle. they then called for a tow truck to remove the car from the parking lot. sources tell news4 that boxes containing additional rounds of ammunition were found in the vehicle. at roughly the same time in herndon, virginia, fbi agents and local police went to a home that is believed to be associated with 28-year-old floyd corekins. agents appeared to be waiting for the occupants to come home action and when they did, escorted them insite. they will likely be questioned about anything else that might provide a motive for the shooting. at this point, it is not clear how long the suspect has lived in this area. jackie bensen, news4. our weather today a little cooler this afternoon, but we're keeping temperatures around the rest of the area, 79 in leesburg, 77 down towards culpepper, and 84 in la plata. here's what's going on. currently some showers, and now the heaviest storm just to the east of dealing with the worst of the conditions right now. >> we have team coverage on what has been the worst drought in the u.s. in 50 years. we begin with doug kammerer with a look at these extreme conditions. doug? >> we've talked about this around our area, right on through the beginning of the year. we're talking about well below average rainfall totals for us in the d.c. area, close to 8 inches below average. some of southern maryland and much of the delmarva peninsula is under severe drought conditions. we are not alone. most of the country, i believe it's over 60% now in extreme drought conditions. some of the worst drought conditions we have seen in our history here in the united states. the dry conditions encompasses mo of the desire country. the jay gray is live with more. >> reporter: hey, doug, you're absolutely right. we're at a dairy farm, so stifle, they have to use fans and misters for the cattle. let's show you what's going on, as they continue the milk process. noa released figures today that july was the warmest month sing they've been keeping reports since 1895. look, it's been hot. the folks in the farm country here in missouri and across the midwest, they don't need the data or the numbers to know exactly how extreme conditions have been. it's not the water this area desperately needs. instead, the waves of orange and yellow that come with the rising sun over southwest missouri reveal crumbling earth, remnants of a desperate summer. all 114 counties in missouri have been declared disaster areas. 93% of the state is suffering through extreme drought conditions. for the first time ever, the city of bolivar has restricted water use. it's like having too many straws in the same soda glass. we're seeing it stabilize, but still low enough to where we have concerns for it. >> reporter: concern is about the only thing that seems to be growing in this area, where most make their living from the land. they've been dairy farming for more than 50 years. is. >> the summer has been brutal. >> reporter: the ponds have dried up, so they haul as much as 8,000 gallons of water to the herd every day. pastures are barren, forcing farmers to pay for feed and hay, which is in high demand and right now costs more than the milk they're producing. >> we've spend in excess of $150,000 the last three months just on the added costs. that's what's very discouraging right now, is to know every day you're going not hole moneywise. >> reporter: smaller farms have been forced to close down. they have sold down 60 of the 1,000 cows they had at the summer, to help pay the bills and keep the milk flowing. >> just pray to the good lord that he will send prayer. >> reporter: a prayers that is throughout the midwest. the work continues here. they produce about 12,000 pounds of milk that runs through here. they've seen just three days with measurable rain since april 30th, one of those yesterday when they got 0.2 of an inch. that's not enough we'll watch another boundary move through on friday, late in the day we could see some storms, some of those could be strong, most of friday, however, should be fairly dry. this evening, mostly cloudy, scattered showers mainly down to the south. tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow morning, a great start, cool in the suburbs, down to 58 to about 70 in the city. tomorrow afternoon. warm with low humidity. and here's the next couple days, showing hot on friday with a high of 93, but then we really cooldown, saturday and sunday, and now the low temperatures. we could be in the 60s for an extended period of time when you wake up. we have not seen numbers like that in quite some time. still watching sunday. sunday could be a rather wet day. just a 40% chance of showers, but we'll talk
