prince william county has their neighbor to thank for likely saving their lives. their house caught fire yesterday afternoon, but they had no idea that they were in danger until a frantic knock at their door. jane watrell spoke with that family and with the man they call a hero. >> reporter: everyone should have a neighbor like bill kim. he was home saturday afternoon when his daughter told him she saw flames coming from a neighbor's home. that's when bill kim sprung into action. >> i looked down the street and i see smoke coming from mike's house. it didn't look like barbecue smoke. >> reporter: bill kim knew he had moments to spare. this photograph shows his neighbor's home completely engulfed in flames. kim, who lives at the top of the street, jumped in his van and raced to the fire right up to the front door. >> so i got to the doorknob and found it unlocked, so i knew somebody had to be home. that's when i went inside the house and yelled, hello, hello. that's when these two ladies came out. >> he's our hero. i've seen him for ten years, i just didn't realize one day he was going to save our lives. >> i don't feel like a hero. it's something you do. if you see an elderly person trip and fall, you kind of help them. you don't think about it, you know. i would want the same thing from somebody if that was happening to me. >> reporter: kim yelled for the women to get out and a young girl who came to see what was going on. none of them was aware there was a fire, which started on the front porch. the homeowner came on the scene moments later as 60 firefighters battled the massive blaze. fairfax county fire officials say kim's actions saved the family. the home's roof caved in shortly after everyone got out safely. the home was completely destroyed, but the family does have insurance. fairfax county fire officials say the cause was a candle left unattended outside the home. in lorton, jane watrel, news4. the city of fredericksburg has made its arrest, the first of the year. tyrone was arrested for first-degree murder. he shot henderson outside his house. the two were acquaintances and got sbi fight just before the shooting. police have arrested two men in connection with a series of shootings in tulsa, oklahoma. 19-year-old jake ingram and that's 32-year-old alvin watts were arrested early this morning. they are accused of shooting five people on friday. three of the victims died. all of them were black. police are now looking at ingram's facebook page. they believe he expressed anger about his father being shot by a black man two years ago. they're still trying to authenticate the posts and they say it's too soon to tell whether the shootings were racially motivated. >> there is still a whole lot of unanswered questions that we have to have answered. my people have been working around the clock. we're going to have a short breatheer and we'll get right back at it. >> england and watts are expected to face murder charges. north korea is set to launch what they're calling a communications satellite into orbit. the government says the launch is part of a 100th anniversary celebration of the birth of north korea's founder, kim ilsung. they believe it's a cover-up for a ballistics test. they have urged them to cancel the test. experts do not believe they have the technology to mount nuclear warheads on long-range missiles. here at home it's a breezy easter sunday and that has sparked a red flag warning. the fire department announces a steady stream of brush fires today and that wind is fanning the flames. chuck bell is [ male announcer ] new baron's best from red baron. taste the legend. who wants seconds? see marvel's "the avengers." in theatres may 4th. metro fares are still going up, but not as much as lots of riders thought. metro ceo richard sarles says next year's operating budget said they will need about 16 million less than anticipated thanks to reduction in spending and improved ridership outlook. that means the metro board will look at smaller metro increases. right now the budget is around $1.5 billion. the board will meet this month to discuss the fare changes. well, the movie "titanic" is back in theaters, and about 1,300 passengers are currently on their way to the site where the ship sank in the middle of the atlantic nearly 100 years ago. the passengers will spend 12 nights traveling from the u.k. to new york. it will follow the same path as the titanic to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the disaster. among those on board, relatives of some of the victims and survivors of the titanic, along with a bunch of history buffs. >> i'm actually looking forward to sailing into new york and seeing the statue of liberty, because i'm sure that's something when he was on titanic he thought he would never see again until he was in the rowboat. >> they will be able to mark the moment the ship hit the iceberg on april 14 and the moment the ship sank on april 15. more than 1,500 people died when tight tan i can went down. still to come, thousands head to church in their sunday best this -dad, why are you getting that? -that's my cereal. is there a prize in there? oh, there's a prize, all right. is it a robot? no. is it a jet plane? nope. is it a dinosaur?] [ male announcer ] inside every box of heart healthy cheerios are those great tasting little o's made from carefully selected oats that c help lower cholesterol. stickers? uh-uh. a superhero? ♪ kinda. cherry blossoms. the lantern was a gift china gave to our city back in 1954. it is located among some of the oldest cherry blossom trees including some of the original ones planted some 100 years ago. its annual light has become a cherry blossom festival tradition. christian worshippers worldwide celebrated one of the holiest holidays today. here in washington, easter services have become a tradition both on the national mall and at the national cathedral. derek ward gives us a taste of those services. >> reporter: some chose to bring in the easter dawn with pageantry at the cathedral. some went to the sunrise service at the lincoln memorial. both offered to favor their places of religious contemplation. one required a blanket or jacket. thousands rose early at the services at washington cathedral, for many spanning a tradition of generations. >> hallelujah, hallelujah. >> reporter: the chilly morning air did not dissuade several thousand more at this tradition with thousands more. >> this is not a politically correct service or celebration. >> reporter: pastor amos dodd has been doing this since he was inspired by a sunlight stroll at the reflecting pool. the faithful have been coming in increasing numbers ever since. it's victoria long's first visit to the sunrise service. >> we're very excited. it's the highlight of our trip. >> i'm here with my family, my nee nieces, my sister and family friends. >> reporter: about 6,000 people came to the sunrise service and the cathedral was filled to its capacity. two different services surrounding essentially the same beliefs. there were certain residents in washington that will somewhat ring softer at the next sunrise. derek reed, news4. >> the first family attended easter services at st. john's episcopal church. the president, first lady and their daughters walked a short distance from the white house through lafayette park to the church. after taking communion, the first family greeted other members of the congregation today. the church paid for the president, congress, the supreme court and all who are in authority. what a beautiful day for a walk outside or anything. no doubt about it, four stars today for easter sunday. a little bit of a breeze for the afternoon, but it certainly didn't inhibit anybody's ability to get outside and enjoy it. hopefully you had a nice easter sunday as well. people taking in the sunshine and holding onto their bonnets a little bit. outside we had lots of people eating their easter sunday brunch. this is in du dupont circle. lots of people enjoying brunch and a cup of coffee. maybe a mimosa, you never know. we're in the 70s, 71 at national airport. winds remain in the west at 14 miles an hour. that will continue into this evening, not quite as high as this afternoon, but it will still be a noticeable breeze this evening and through the overnight hours. temperatures, though, are start to go trend back just a little bit. mid-60s across maryland, mid-60s across the panhandle of virginia. 72 in solomon's island, 75 in fredericksburg and 74 in charlottesville. so your sunday evening planner, no weather concerns at all. just some passing clouds, but it will be noticeably breezy for the remainder of the evening. no rain to worry about, so dry this evening and a dry start to work and school week tomorrow morning as well. but this area of low pressure way over the canadian maritime, this will slowly work its way back to the coast of maine, and as that area of low pressure comes backwards, it brings the cool air a loft with it and we'll finally end up with rain chances here. the next little pocket of cold air will be arriving here late tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. that will be our first little chance at showers this week. so a mild and breezy evening. fair skies overnight tonight. another little reinforcing shot at some cool air comes in tomorrow. those are the little showers in wisconsin now. they will be over us by late tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow evening. they disappear tomorrow night, and then another chance for some showers mainly in pennsylvania on tuesday. i think our chances for showers return here in washington on wednesday. we may get to put a drop in tuesday as well. goodness knows we need the rain. overnight tonight, partly cloudy. nowhere near as chilly tomorrow as it was today. in the bayside, temperatures will hold in the mid to upper 40s. then for tomorrow, back to work, everybody. partly to mostly cloudy day, morning sunshine giving way to afternoon clouds and the chance of a few showers but not until late in the day, probably after the sun goes down. breezy and cloudy and cool around here for tuesday and a little chance for some showers on wednesday, then we dry it out thursday/friday and shooting into next weekend, it looks like the warmer air will come back again. >> you always look ahead to the weekend and it looks like a good one for us. >> coming up in sports, the nationals go for the series sweep in chicago and perhaps a 3-0 start was too much for baseball fans here to ask for. >> they came pretty close. they won the series, came pretty close. adam roche made it pretty interesting. he pitched a gem and he was a natural. they take the opening series at wrigley this weekend. this afternoon's iffinale came down to two in the ninth. a red hot adam laroche had other plans. making his seasonal debut for the nats, zimmerman gets help from the defense. check out roger bernadina. absolutely sacrifices his body. take another look. he covered so much ground. lays out, make an absolutely beautiful grab. saves the run in the process, that's more important. this one the defense can't get to. he brings home a run. the cubs take an 1-2 lead. one out away from a complete game but not so fast. laroche gets ahold of one, deep to right. his second home run of the year. the nats are within one. in comes carlos to close it out and he gets them to pop out and in the game the cubs win 4-3. next up with the nats, a series with the mets in new york beginning tomorrow. the orioles looking for the series sweep of the twins. j.j. hardy at the dish, and that one is not coming back. a solo shot off of anthony swarzek. baltimore takes an early 1-0 lead. on the mound for the o's, jason hambell, a new oriole, making his debut. double play j.j. hardy takes it himself to the end of the inning. next batter, luke hughes. he goes down, too. hammel takes a no-hit ter into the eighth inning. but the first batter of the eighth is justin and he's a pretty good player. hammel goes eight innings, giving up just two hits. orioles win 3-1, and for the second year in a row, baltimore starts 3-0. as the capitols take on the bruins this thursday night, they take with them the weight of expectation, and it's pretty heavy. after early exits the past four years, the core group of ovechkin, msimmon bachelor and green take it. just like that he gets his 38th goal of the season 32 seconds into the game. the caps have a 1-0 lead. later in the period, caps up 2-0. on the power play, john carlson fires. the caps score three goals on their first seven shots. up 3-0 after 1. second period, 3 on 2 for the caps, richard bactrim. caps up 4-0. as for men in the net, hopi had 35 saves, just one goal allowed, and the caps win 4-1. after the game, of course, the question is, is hopi ready to go if called upon after game 1? >> yeah. i don't think there's ever a question about that. you know, if i did question it, we were in trouble. so two top bullies are out with injuries, and we can't complain about it in any way. just myself and our team, i could see by wait they played today will battle through it and do everything they can. >> i think everyone trusts him back there, everyone feels comfortable with him back there, but it doesn't hurt for him to stand on his head like that going at the playoffs and probably his confidence is higher now. >> the guys in
