ceiling, it's the debt. >> reporter: some liberal house democrats will vote no. >> there's no balance. there are no revenues. god forbid, we would ask, as the republicans call them, the job creators, the millionaires and billionaires to pay anything. >> reporter: the compromised plan would cut about $1 trillion in spending right away, form a new bipartisan super committee to find another $1.5 trillion in savings by november. if congress fails to act on those recommendations this year, broad spending cuts are triggered. no follow-on deal by december would mean -- cuts in defense spending, opposed by conservatives, and cuts in social programs opposed by liberals. >> gives each party a strong incentive to get a balanced plan done before the end of the year. >> reporter: do many democrats now expect tax hikes on the well-off? >> the answer is not only yes, but hell yes. >> reporter: vice president biden came to the hill to lobby. >> i feel confident that this will pass. >> reporter: but both sides are still scrambling for support after the house votes, the senate could follow quickly. but no celebrating. washington is worn out. >> this was a mess. there is no question. it was a circus at times. but in the end, compromise won out. >> reporter: maybe. they still have to vote. so, again, a house vote tonight, maybe finished by 7:30. the senate votes probably tomorrow,ll be a signing ceremony, no doubt. down at the white house, all in advance of midnight tuesday, which is still the debt ceiling deadline. jim, back to you. >> steve handelsman. thanks steve. on wall street today, stocks saw minor losses ahead of the final vote on the debt deal. the dow jones dropped 11 points. nasdaq also down about 12. the s&p 500 ended this day about 5 points lower. we invite you to stay with news4. we'll have continuing coverage of this story. we will also monitor the developments in congress, and have a full report on the financial impact of this vote in our next half hour. we've been keeping an eye on severe storms that have moved through parts of our region. let's get the latest from doug. >> severe thoerm warnings in effect for prince george's county, anne arundel county, southern prince george's, charles county and the knewest warning now effects portions of west virginia including jefferson county around the martins berg area. and you're going to see very heavy rain from these storms and the potential for a lot of lightning and hail. i do think we have seen some pretty big hail producers, but also very heavy rain producers. you see some of the biggest storms in prince george's county along route 50 and 301. you're going to see that storm continuing to make its way to the south and east. another severe thunderstorm down around charles county, making its way toward la plata. you'll see that in the next 15 minutes to half hour moving towards triangle and now a new severe thunderstorm warning associated with that storm. that severe thunderstorm warning will go until 6:45. it now includes all of charles county, as well as down towards king george county and back toward the west. loudoun county getting hit very hard with 2 to 3 inches of rain. we have a flash flood warning that's now in effect there until 9:00 tonight. we'll continue to watch out for that, too. so if you're outside this afternoon, keep a watchful eye to the sky. and if you're in loudoun county see, a flooded roadway, don't drive through it, turn around, don't drown. we'll keep you updated as we move through the rest of the evening. thank you, doug. a new fight began over the maryland dream act. a lawsuit was filed by students and the advocacy group casa de maryland. they want a law granting in-state tuition for the children of illegal immigrants to take effect now. but some officials have put it on hold. chris gordon is here. >> reporter: the dream act was signed into law by governor o'malley and was supposed to begin july 1st. but opponents collected more than 130,000 signatures. that petition drive stopped the law from taking effect, and set the stage for a referendum to let voters decide whether they want the dream act. these students celebrated after the maryland general assembly passed the bill to grant in-state tuition to the children of illegal immigrants. but their victory was short-lived as a petition drive by opponents delivered almost twice the number of valid signatures required for a referendum to put the issue before the maryland voters. now the students are back in annapolis, filing a lawsuit in the anne arundel county circuit court, seeking to have petition signatures set aside. >> 44,000 of those were these computer-generated forms in which the voters' information was not filled in by the voter, which is what the law requires, but by a computer program. >> reporter: when this case goes to court, the people behind the petition drive will argue that the signatures are valid, and were legally obtained. brad bottomwin is the director of help save maryland, a nonprofit organization that focuses on the cost of illegal immigration. >> they can say anything they want. when it goes to court, it will be thrown out, november 2012. the citizens of maryland will decide in-state tuition for illegal immigrants or not. >> reporter: but local students say putting the dream act on hold has hurt them. we were asked not to use their last names, because of the uncertain immigration status of their families. ricky dreams of becoming a doctor. dolce, a psychologist. >> reporter: can you afford college if the referendum passes? >> no way. it's triple than regular tuition. >> i believe this will have a happy end for us, and we will be able to pay, you know, in-state tuition. >> reporter: the students' court case is being expedited. that means put on the fast track. they hope to get a tuition break for the coming fall or winter semester. but opponents believe they will win in court, and that maryland voters will decide the future of the dream act in next year's election. wendy and jim, back to you. >> chris gordon. thanks, chris. a bad situation up on metro's red line. but things are improving just a bit. the friendship heights station has reopened now. earlier today, a person was hit by a train inside the station. the person was trapped under the train after the rescue, the victim was rushed to a hospital. trains are single-tracking in that area now. that's causing some delays. no word on the condition of the victim there. developer donald trump might have given up his bid for the white house, but he still might end up on pennsylvania avenue anyhow. federal officials are considering several proposals to redevelop the old post office building on pennsylvania avenue. trump's luxury hotel empire is one of the bidders. tom sherwood reports. >> reporter: with its tower soaring 270 feet into the air, a timeless treasure in downtown d.c., the old post office building dating back to 1894 lies just up the street from the united states' congress. but inside the atrium is a hodgepodge of fast-food eateries and tourist souvenir shops because previous efforts to redevelop the property have faltered over the last 20 years. >> the full-service restaurants didn't seem to do that well in the evenings. >> reporter: barry plot is general manager of a retail posted shop. the retired navy veteran has worked here 20 years. now the federal general services administration is considering new uses for the old property. including, as the "washington post" first reported, a bid from donald trump's business to open a 300-room, high-end luxury hotel. >> i heard that. >> reporter: your thoughts? >> well, i might have to look for another job. >> reporter: not everybody who loves the old building and access to it is happy it might become a luxury hotel. >> i would hate to see this building belong to not just mr. trump, but anybody in the private sector. because this building belongs to all of us, all americans. and i think there is a certain wonderful pride in that. we felt it today. >> reporter: a big appeal is a tower. now a free ride offered by the u.s. park service. with its extraordinary view of the capitol and washington monument and other parts of monumental downtown. the gsa is considering several bids from local and national developers. the downtown business improvement district says it would welcome the new use. >> anything that would bring additional activity, people milling about, a restaurant perhaps downstairs, whether it's trump or some other wonderful developer that's going to come into the downtown area, anything would be really great down here. >> reporter: tom sherwood, news4, washington. >> and a decision on all of this is expected by late in november. we have got a mess of storms out there. let's get the latest from doug as they move through our area. >> another severe thunderstorm warning out there. this one affecting montgomery county, prince george's county, western portions of an aare you positive dell, as well as southern portions of the howard county area. it's going to cross over i-95 in the next half hour or so. but this a very strong storm. right now the storm is right around the rocks bury mills area, moving southeast at 15 miles per hour. locations impacted will include olney, fairland, colesville, laurel and white oak. we'll zoom in on that storm, because we have had a number of storms out there. this storm right now along the river, the border between howard county and montgomery county, along the brookville area, moving south and east, as i mentioned, 15 miles per hour. this line also continues down to the south and east, another storm and another strong one also developing right now right around the -- this area, 295 around power mill road, south laurel and jericho park, making its way that way. and then you continue along 197, down through 301 and 50, and that's the storm we have been watching that had produced a lot of hail into portions of prince george's county. that right now around the hall area, 214 and 301. so once again, some very strong storms out and across the area. another one down towards charles county, producing very strong winds. that has a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:45. more storms down through culpeper and orange and madison county. those, as well, very strong and continuing to intensify. and then more storms back towards loudoun county and back towards west virginia. once again, we're going to continue to watch all of these storms. the biggest threat will be very heavy rain. the possibility of some flooding. but also some nickel to quarter-size hail. we'll continue to watch as we move through the next hour. guys? [ male announcer ] send your taste buds a sweet shiver with mcdonald's mccafé frappe. a creamy blend of ice, coffee and mha. or caramel. mmm. sweet. ♪ ba da ba ba ba hello, i'm meteorologist doug kammerer, another severe thunderstorm warning. and these storms really do mean business. we've gotten some reports out of college park of quarter-size hail around that area, and also some very heavy rain. that was from the storm that moved through about a half hour ago. the new severe thunderstorm warning includes loudoun county as well as frederick county, southern portions of washington county and berkeley and jefferson county towards west virginia. that severe thunderstorm warning going until 7:00 tonight. so once again, southern washington county, southwestern frederick, loudoun, jefferson, as well as berkeley county until 7:00 tonight. this storm right now is located 11 miles north of inwood or 5 miles northwest of martinsburg and moving southeast at 20 miles per hour. locations impacted could be shepherdstown, charlestown, nearsville and brunswick. once again, continuing to watch that storm, as well as numerous others. some areas have produced -- some storms have produced 2 to 3 inches of rain and a lot of hail. so once again, we'll continue to keep you posted as these storms continue to move on through the area, and continue to develop. one thing that we have been seeing, these storms are deve p developing very, very quickly, not moving like normal storms do. they're developing very quickly, moving over the same location producing rain. as i mentioned, we'll continue to keep you posted right here from the storm center. >> thank you, doug. new guidelines will require birth control be provided by insurance companies for free. the rules issued today by the department of health and human services mandating that insurance companies provide birth control and some other services to women without requiring a co-pay. erica edwards with that story. >> reporter: starting august 1st, 2012, insurance companies will be required to cover all fda-approved contraceptives for new plans, without a co-pay. this includes the pill, iuds and the so-called morning-after pill, a prescription drug that works by blocking or delaying ovulation. nearly half of all pregnancies in the u.s. are unplanned. >> women, when they have unintended pregnancies are less likely seek prenatal care. if they seek prenatal care, unlikely to get enough. >> reporter: the ability for women to plan pregnant naegs social security crucial. >> women who have pregnancies been within a year of their most previous delivery are at increased risk of other complications of pregnancy. >> reporter: and birth control isn't the only reason women use it. >> contraceptives are used to control irregular bleeding, skin conditions such as acne, endometriosis treatment. >> reporter: the guidelines allow religious institution to say opt out. coverage will also be entitled to an annual physical, screening, breast pumps and counseling on domestic violence. erica edwards, nbc news. the united nations says more than 11.5 million people desperately need help in the horn of africa. it's because of widespread drought there. that drought has created famine conditions in parts of somalia. tens of thousands of people are making the dangerous walk into kenya, looking for some help. kate snow has our report from dadaab in kenya. >> reporter: the line starts at dawn. single men on the left, women and children to the right, families with the most need in front. raha and her four kids arrived yesterday. her baby like an infant, but he's a year old. she says they went through hell to get here, gunshots, fighting, but most of all, the constant hunger. the gela family walked for 14 days. it's been two months since their 3-year-old had a really good meal. how many people a day? >> on average, 6 to 700 people per day. >> reporter: 6 to 700 people a day. we followed through the process, fingerprints and a yellow band will get them enough food for three weeks. corn flour, oil, bedding, just the basics. the kids are measured and given vaccines. look one direction here, and you see so many children in need. look the other way, and there's a pickup game. kids happy to talk about their favorite soccer clubs. it's not all misery and despair here, but certainly enough to go around. the u.n. world food program tells us they're spending some 9 to $10 million a month to feed everyone living here. kate snow, nbc news, dadaab, kenya. >> the holy month of ramadan began today for more than 1 billion muslims around the world. during the month, muslims will fast and reflect during the daytime hours. it's believed that 1,400 years ago, the koran was revealed to mohammed. president obama and the first lady extended their best wishes to muslim communities here and abroad. in a statement, they said, quote, times like this remind us the lessons of all great faiths, including islam, that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. doug is in the weather center. i guess when you get temperatures near 100 degrees, you get storms popping up all over the place in the late afternoon. >> sometimes the storms become severe. and jim, we have a lot of them. i keep coming with more severe thunderstorm warnings. now we have another severe thunderstorm warning for loudoun county and fairfax county until 7:00 tonight. this is going to continue to make its way -- this storm making its way to the south and east about 20 miles per hour. right now it's near the broadlands area, near arrest coala, and eventually towards dulles airport, the herndon and sterling area. so we'll go ahead and put this into motion and show you where these storms are right now. severe thunderstorm warnings currently in effect. we have one which is up here towards prince george's county and also montgomery county. this storm right here, severe thunderstorm warning here until 6:45. another one down toward the south until 6:45 for charles county. this moving towards the allenes fresh area. this is a pretty big storm. we'll have the potential for strong winds as well as a lot of lightning. we'll go ahead and put the lightning on with this storm. you can see what i'm talking about here. just a ton of lightning just to the south of la plata already moved through and furthered here to show you the towns affected around the don caster area and potomac shores region, north of riverside. so if you're down towards riverside and charles county, watch out, you are going to see this storm move through your area. here's the other storm just now been warned upon. this is in loudoun county around leesburg, right around sterling and right now coming up along the dulles international airport, making its way down to the south and east, as i mentioned, at about 20 miles per hour. and then yet another storm up here towards the north. this one affecting the martinsburg area. this one affecting jefferson and berkeley county into west virginia and then southern washington county into maryland, as well as frederick county and then another severe thunderstorm warning in effect towards northern loudoun county. loudoun county really getting hit hard. the other thing that loudoun county is seeing, a flash flood warning. that flash flood warning until k4r9 tonight. so we're going to continue to watch. 9:00. right here at the airport, 85 degrees. how about that after a high today of 98 degrees? we are actually seeing a cooldown as we have seen cooler air move in because of the storms. we are looking at partly to mostly cloudy skies right now. we did hit 98 degrees today yet again. 93 degrees or higher, we have been there for 15 straight days. 93 degrees or better. that is a new record. that's the first time that has ever happened. and that really, i don't think, is going to happen again any time soon for sure. current temperatures around the region, 85 in washington, 80 in laplate skra and 73 in leesburg, all temperatures cooled down. fredericksbu fredericksburg, the warm spot at 95. but frederick, maryland coming in right now at 99. and they did hit 100 a little bit earlier. partly cloudy this evening, still hot. possible storms once again. some of those will be strong, if not severe. the potential is for very heavy rain, as well as lightning and hail from these storms. we have had hail reports upwards of quarter size. that was around the college park area about an hour ago. temperatures 94 to 84 degrees. tomorrow morning, waking up to mostly clear skies, warm start. temperatures, 70 to 76 degrees. sunrise tomorrow at 6:10. winds northwest at 5 to 10 miles per hour. as we make our way through the day tomorrow, mostly sunny. not as hot. the frontal boundary will cool us after. 91 to 96 degrees. with the lower humidity, should not feel bad tomorrow. and look what happens the next four days. we cool off even more. 90 degrees on our wednesday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. some of those could be strong. thursday, 89. friday, 88 degrees. and we stay on that cooler trend. and when i say cooler, temperatures below 95 degrees all the way through next weekend. so we have a couple of chances of storms tonight and then another one on wednesday. all in all, we're going to move into a political little bit quiet and cooler pattern. >> thank you, doug. coming up, family in tennessee, big scare during a road trip. some concern about, they found a female body today near a dam, not far from the home of a girl in new hampshire who had vanished. 11-year-old celina cass was last seen at her home in stewartstown july 25th. investigators have not identified the body found in the connecticut river yet. police say there was no sign of a struggle, or any indication that the child who was in the fifth grade had run away. well, a family in tennessee had an interesting road trip recently when they discovered on the windshield of their car a four-feet snake. rachel and tony fisher and their kids had been driving for several miles when this guy slithered out of the engine and on to the windshield. and he was probably just as alarmed at seeing them as they were at seeing him. the husband grabbed his cell phone and started recording this video you're looking at right now. the fischers said they weren't sure what to do about but after a few miles, the snake decided it had enough. >> it tried to call do crawl do the side of my door and fell f off. >> the fischers think it managed to get off the side of the road without being hit. they think it did. some were upset the family didn't pull over and allow the snake to disembark safely into the median strip. experts say that snake was not poisonous. it might have been even more dangerous for the father to be filming this while he's driving. that might have been an issue. but the snake was -- he was good -- he was good. he was just a little creepy-looking. >> yeah. can you imagine your kids in the back when they're looking at this snake? the maryland dream act to take effect now. that law grants in-state tuition for the children of illegal immigrants. opponents have gathered thousands of signatures on a petition to put that law to referendum for the voters to decide. the lawsuit alleges that not enough of those signatures are valid. the old post office pavilion might become a new donald trump luxury hotel. this is just one of several proposals federal officials are thinking about to redevelop that property. a decision is expected by november. there could be a vote in the house on the debt reduction compromise bill possibly within the hour. if it passes there, the senate will then take up the measure. the deadline to reach a deal and to prevent a default is tomorrow. and even if lawmakers get that job done and approve that debt bill, some analysts say the financial crisis is far from over. >> or they may have avoided immediate disaster with a default. some tougher decisions are going to have to be made. our coverage continues now. elaine reyes in the newsroom with more. >> reporter: that's right, jim and wendy. for almost 24 hours now, we have heard from both sides. we have heard spin. that's all we've heard. and if you thought it was agonizing for lawmakers to get this deal, it will get much worse, say, when the much tougher decisions inside the agreement come up. >> what's coming is going to be much worse than what's happened so far. >> reporter: messy and circus-like debt talks will eventually get worse. that's according to economist ron haskins, senior fellow at the brookings institute. he says the real issues are still ahead. >> if you think this has been ugly, wait until you see the serious debate on health care spending cuts, no matter what happens, a lot of people are either going to lose coverage or they're going to have to pay more in the form of copayment. and that's coming. >> reporter: and that's not all americans may experience down the road. >> the polls show that americans don't want congress to touch medicare or social security, and they're dreaming. they're just dreaming. it must -- it will happen eventually. the question is, how it will happen. and once that debate starts, it will be very, very difficult, and very ugly. >> the immediate impact this fiscal year will be relatively minimal. it's in the outyears where we're going to start to see a build-up that will have effects. >> reporter: congressman gerry connolly of virginia says he's voting yes. >> one good piece of news for federal employees is that many of the proposals that were part of the discussions under president -- vice president biden's auspices in terms of changing retirement plans and benefits for federal employees are not included in this proposal. >> reporter: with the federal stimulus spending coming to an end, individual states will see other challenges, as the spending cuts of this debt deal get worked through. >> especially medicaid. i think that's the biggest single thing that would really have a dramatic impact on the states, because they'll either have to cut off poor people or elderly people, or they'll have to make them pay more or figure out some way to cover the loss. because we can't continue to have medicaid spending increase so much as in the past. >> reporter: we reached out to several members of congress in our area. most were in meetings all afternoon or voting. representative rossco bartlett didn't want to comment on the debt deal until after he voted. back to you. >> thank you, elaine. we have some serious thunderstorms moving through anne arundel county. let's get the latest from doug. >> right now, southern anne arundel county is seeing a severe thunderstorm warning. that warning in effect until 7:00 tonight. also includes northern portions of calvert county. let's zoom in on that storm. as you can see here, this storm is making its way toward the chesapeake at about 30 miles per hour. so it will be out of that area by around 7:00. but a closer zoom-in just to the south of shadyside right along 56 and through route 2. it will also effect the areas right along north beach, so watch out, very heavy rain associated with this storm. we'll put our lightning on and you can see what i'm talking about. numerous lightning strikes out of this, it will continue to produce a ton of lightning as it makes its way south and east. and also watch out for some hail. up to the north, a bigger storm also into portions of prince george's county. we'll zoom in along route 1 and 95, as well, the laurel area. and 198. so watch out for this storm. this one, as well, is producing lightning strikes, also has the history of producing some pretty big hail and we'll continue to watch that one for you. numerous other storms are out there, including fairfax county, loudoun county, all under severe thunderstorm warnings until 7:00, and then more back towards west virginia and western portions of maryland. we'll continue to keep you updated. any new warnings that come up, we'll be the first to show them to you right here in the storm center. >> thank you, doug. police in fairfax county are hoping this sketch will help them find a car-jacking suspect. they say this is one of two suspects who attacked a man last month along vernon square drive in the mt. vernon area. investigators say the victim had been running errands and parked near an apartment complex when two men approached and hit him before stealing his car. if you recognize this guy in the sketch, police want to hear from you. a cemetery in calvert county, maryland is the latest local business forced into foreclosure by the uncertain economy. derrick ward reports now how the actions of a previous owner helped send the property to the auction block. >> reporter: the last owners of the cemetery, david martin and his father, saw it as an opportunity to provide a service to their southern maryland community, and like any other business owners, make a profit. but there was a personal stake, as well, with a family member buried here. that has all come crashing down now under the weight of a flagging economy, where prearranged funerals and burials, the bread and butter of this industry, have dried up. what is left is a foreclosure. people we spoke to, family members buried here, say this wouldn't be the first time that this property has changed hands. >> i'm really upset, because the cemetery has been sold so many times since my son and my late husband are buried here. >> but it's the story behind one of the previous owners and the sales that the martins feel was the death knell for their future. larry bilked customers. three years ago, he got five years probation and then reportedly tried to fake his own death in a chesapeake bay boating accident. he has since been found and is in jail for violating his probation, and is awaiting sentencing in the fall for faking his death. now, aside from the customers who were bilked in the scam, survivors of those buried here haven't seen much of a change while all of this was going on in the background. >> it does seem to be weedier. not as well taken care of as it was before. maybe i just think that. >> reporter: the auction later this month may free up uncertainty amid all of the court and legal wranglings among these peaceful hills. >> it's a scary thing. i don't guess they ever move it. >> reporter: sources close to the process say this will continue to be a cemetery and there isn't a need to worry about encroaching development. still, one lies buried [ male announcer ] get your own subway® bbq pulled pork sub. slow-cooked pork with bold barbecue sauce. hello, i'm meteorologist doug kammerer in storm center 4. once again, the warnings going off here across our area. we are continuing to watch numerous severe thunderstorm warnings out there right now for southern portions of anne arundel county, northern calvert county, as well as into northern portions of prince george's county. northern prince george's county getting hit hard from that storm and yet more storms toward loudoun county. loudoun county has been hit very hard this afternoon and we will continue to watch as that area continues to see more and more storms. actually, a flash flood warning there until 9:00 tonight for around the area around leesburg. some locations have received 2 to 3 inches of rain over the last two to three hours. a new severe thunderstorm warning now does include king george county. that severe thunderstorm warning will go until about 7:15 tonight. as far as the details go for tomorrow, here's the good news. we will see mostly sunny skies. it won't be as hot. no chances of storms. temperatures tomorrow, 91 to 96. that still seems hot, but we have even more relief coming up in the forecast. i'll show it to you one more time coming up in the four-day forecast and extended, as well. >> thanks, doug. the ford motor company is facing more problems with the national highway traffic safety administration. it has to do with the wheels on some cars. the 2010 mercury milan has been added to an investigation into reports of wheel studs that break. some 2010 ford fusion cars also are being investigated already. now the investigation involves more than 317,000 fords. wheel studs are the bolts that hold the wheel to the car. no crashes railroad injuries have been reported, but in four reported cases, the wheels became separated from the car. a popular restaurant known for its huge portions is going to make some changes for the calorie conscious. cheesecake factory today said it plans to start a new menu that includes 40 items with strict caloric guidelines. the restaurant is calling it their skinny-licious menu. appetizers, entrees, less than 590 calories. the menu will be in place at all locations by the end of september. fans out at the park, they still maneuvering and shifting people all around out there? now that's us. save up to 20% on every kitchen style, now until august 21st at ikea, the life improvement store. dan is out at redskins park, where you really are going to need a score card, right, or something to keep up with all of the new players. >> it really is incredible, jim, when you really -- and when you add up the total of new starters on the redskins this year, it could be 11 new starters. they're still trying to broker a deal with rex grossman but he's not in camp yet. they signed kicker shane graham, and phillip buchanan announced on his twitter page that he is coming back to the redskins. that should add some depth to this defense. the 3-4 going to look entirely different. seven likely new starters. kerrigan slated to be a starter, he, of course, the rookie, first-round pick, hyper extended knee. laron landry also a question mark, because he's on the physically unable to perform list, likely miss all of training camp. he has been rehabbing various injuries for the last eight months, the most serious an achilles' problem that happened halfway last season when he was having a pro bowl year, leading the nfl in tackles. landry has finally opinion nut in a position to excel, and shannahan could not have higher praise for his safety. >> you see very few guys that are difference-makers. and what i mean like that, when a professional athlete looks at him, he has got an ability that most people don't have. and that's laron. he can cover and hit and go sideline to sideline. and he's got a chance to be as good as he wants to be. and so hopefully he can do what's necessary to make sure that he's healthy. i talked to him yesterday, and he by no means is 100%, but our game plan is to try to get him to 100% before our first game. >> i'm more than patient now, and with the injuries, when they first occurred during week ten and i fought with it since the indianapolis game. so i'm more than patient right now. i'm not trying to push it. i made a lot of strides. i'm coming off of three injuries. so not worried. i will be ready week one. >> he said he's been using all kinds of things to treat his various ailments, including sleeping in an oxygen chamber for a couple of nights during the lockout. so on the offensive side of the ball we're going to have a different starting quarterback, that's for sure. you're going to have a different starting running back, and three different starting offensive lineman. a new center and two new guards. no longer casey robach, instead wilmont come re, out of centerville high school, going into his fifth nfl season. he played 13 games last year, and started six. montgomery does have experience, but this is the first time he has entered training camp as a starter. his main advantage right now is knowing the system. >> it's really nice. last year some of the cheering section -- in court -- hey, virginia tech. corey would be no, that's not me, that's will. but, no, it's fun. having my hometown base and fans around here, too. it's different, you know, knowing the playbook, and obviously this year we -- write the playbook. we want to be like the coaches out there, so if something happens we're not second-guessing each other. we know it before it happens, and we're going to pick more things up. >> we lost dan's picture from out at redskins park. we heard from wilmont come re there. that is one big young man, isn't it? and a welcome addition in the center of that line. we really need to get laron landry back in that backfield in the secondary, because there are few guys in the league who probably put fear into the eyes of receivers when they're getting ready to come off the line of scrimmage. and landry is one of them. great event today down at the waterfront, where they turned washington kastles' stadium into a soccer field. it's for the charity, soccer challenge. did you know that they were an item, by the way? >> ooh. >> not only did it raise money for a great cause and the foundation, there were tons of familiar faces, including some of the stars from the women's world cup team. kobe bryant was there on the soccer field. john carlson from the caps. and skins' pro bowler, d anglo hall. a packed house today. early on, mia scores. no surprise there. scored on redskins' great charles mann. she hasn't lost her step, by the way. it was hot out there, but the fans were really into it. here is some schlub who hasn't played soccer since fifth grade, actually trying to score a goal. hold on a second. that was dan. oh, man, did he get embarrassed. my goodness. one of his favorite moments was when his teammate, kobe bryant, did some ankle-breaking work on mike wise. of mike is a little embarrassed by that. mia's team won in extra time. afterwards, dan got a chance and caught up with kobe bryant. >> were you holding back any soccer skills out there? >> hell, no. i was out there trying. you know it's different when it was a smaller pitch. you can't hide, man. you've got to have skills. because that ball is moving around too fast, man. a bigger pitch, i could hide a little bit. >> you guys are obviously not going to be working for a while. what are you going to be doing? [ man ] ♪ she got it, you got it ♪ i got it, we got it [ groans ] ♪ who's got it see you later. ♪ yeah! ♪ come on, she got it you got it, we got it who's got it ♪ we're all different. that's why there are five new civics. the next-generation civic. only from honda. it is opening day for a new baseball league in town and now some athletes who might have a harder time getting on the field are getting to play n instead. melissa melai reports on the miracle league. >>. >> reporter: welcome to the washington nationals' miracle field, especially designed for kids with disabilities. many play in the miracle league. they can safely run their wheelchairs or walkers on the flat, cushion on the rubber field. the base pack is extra wide, the bases built into the ground. so everyone here can play like everyone else. 8-year-old kiran spent his morning pushing his 14-year-old brother, conner, around the bases. >> he's always sitting on the sidelines when i play my sports and now he gets to play his sports. >> reporter: fatherery cardo is thrilled. >> this is something that i figure we could all to as a family. >> reporter: this is 9-year-old sage sings, field of dreams. just a year-and-a-half ago, sage was running the bases with his little league team. since then, he has been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. >> it was better than a regular field, because my wheels could go on it. >> reporter: the kids even had some pros on their side, sean burnet and jordan zimmerman. >> what's your name? >> brady. >> brady? i'm jordan, nice to meet you. >> reporter: even manager davy johnson. dr. jim leeder had the idea a few years back, raising more than $1 million in private donations. >> i think when i get home, i'll cry. >> reporter: they would like a score board in the outfield, a permanent shaded area over the dugout and concession stand. they're hoping to get these things through donations. >> we think it's important for our children to stay involved. >> reporter: right now, the only other miracle league field in the area is in manassas, something leeder is very well aware of. >> once we get started, manassas, we're going to challenge you to a game. >> reporter: in germantown, melissa melai, news4. final check on the weather. >> still watching storms, a lot of them dying out. very good news. one storm still, though, into loudoun county, that severe thunderstorm warning still in effect there. that storm right now moving through the leesburg area, down right along route 621, and down towards king george county and stafford county. very strong storms still into that area, a lot of lightning associated with those storms. a lot of heavy rain, and then the last storm into prince george's county starting to die out just a little bit. but we'll still watch that one too as it makes its way south and east. right now, at the junction of 50 and 301. now, as far as the rest of the next couple of days go, we need a cooldown. it looks like we're going to get one. after a high today of 98, around 95. tomorrow, 90 degrees on wednesday, and then even cooler weather as we move into thursday and friday with temperatures around 89 and 88 degrees. and we're going to continue to watch as we do see at least some cooler weather in the forecast over the next couple of days, even into the weekend. temperatures only in the low 90s. that's about it. but i'll have the latest at 11:00 tonight. the latest on these storms and when the heat may actually return. >> thanks, doug. a father and son had a really strange encounter of the first kind out in washington state. they were walking along a beach when they came across a jelly fish, which is not so unusual. except this one was. this sucker was feet four feet across.
