escalators have worked. >> reporter: all through the system, metro is taking a close look at its moving stairys in the aftermath of last weekend's problem at the l'enfant plaza station. anescalator sped up, resulting in passenger pile ups at the bottom, leaving with six thiinjd and one seriously. other problem at the gallery plagues. no one was hurt there, but the red flag was raised. >> what we have decided to do is take a proacte precautionary approach and inspect all of the escalators. >> reporter: it can be a problem for patrons with mobility issues. >> it's a problem for me to walk, because i have arthritis in my knees. >> reporter: even those more fleet of foot find it challenging. >> steps are built so you can walk them. escalators have a much higher rise. so walking an escalator is much more difficult than walking stairs. >> luckily, she and a friend were bound for a walk to benefit the heart association. the irony of that wasn't lost on them. >> yeah, i it was kind of a warmup to the walk. >> we're just visiting, and we're reasonably fit, s i don't think there's too much problem. maybe it's a good thing. >> when i was coming up one this morning, even though the steps were coming up, the rail, it would go up a little bit, and then down a little bit. >> z there's some 588 escalators in metro's system and they plan to inspect them all. and while in the short term that may mean some inconveniences for some passengers, they hope that in the long term it means safety for all passengers. in northwest, derrick ward, news4. metro says the inspection process could take as long as five days to complete, systemwide. it's been more than a yr since virginia tech student morgan harrington was abducted and murdered near the university ofvirginia. today her parents brought their tireless search for her killer to fairfax county. darcy spencer is live for us with more. darcy? >>eporter: aaron, her parents were in fairfax today, because her murder has been linked to a sexual assault that happened near this giant store back in 2005. and the attacker remains at large. virginia tech student morgan harrington was abducted and murdered a little more than a year ago after leaving a metallica concert in charlottesville. her body was found in a remote farm field in january. >> within the span of one second, our lives changed. our daughter w murdered, and we will never have her back again. >> reporter: today her parents and their supporterare in fairf fairfax, trying to bring attention to another case, a 2005 sexual assault that's been linked through dna to their daughter's murder. this is a composite sketch of a man believed to be involved in the attacks. >> five years is a long time. it's easy for a community to become complacent and to forget things. and we want people to be alert, to be aware, that a predator walks the streets. >> reporter: the herrington's driving here from their home in roanoke to charlottesville to fairfax to draw attention to the case and this flier, with information on the 2005 attack. >> i want to shake the tree hard and ke him fall out, rather than wait for him. i want to nd him. >> reporter: in the fairfax case, the 26-year-old woman had left this giant grocery store and was walking to her apartment complex on germantown road when she was grabbed from behind, dragged and sexually assaulted near a pole. she was able to escape. >> my daughter can't graduate from college, she won't be married, she won't have children. this person who killed her and did the deed herin 2005 walks free every day. >> reporter: at the giant, those seing justice in the case handed out flyers with a composite and bracets bearing the name morgan hard of hearingington 2-4-1, which mea love you forever and more. there is a $150,000 reward being offered for information to solve the morgan harriton case. darcy spencer, news4. >> darcy, thank you very much. the d.c. man accused of leading police on a bizarre chase after a triple shooting is now charged with murder. investigators believe 39-year-old robert carter shot his girlfriend and her two kids on october 29th. it happened on madison street in northwest d.c. 13-year-old angel morris died in the shooting. police say carter led officers on a chase in a stolen metro access car. he was arrestedn prince george's county. president obama wrapped up the first day of his india trip, where he is focusing on the economy today. the president has been focusing on india as potential prime source offess exports. he met today with top executives from both countries. afterwards they announced $10 billion inrade deals that the white house says would create 53 million jobs here in the u.s. >> in our world, increased commerce between the united states and india can be and will be a win-win proposition for both nations. >> yesterday new jobs numbers showed that unemployment in the u.s. remains at 9.6%. the president will spend a total of ten days in asia. he's holding a town hall with college students in mumbai tomorrow before heading to new dehli to meet with india's prime minister. meanwhile, the first lady spent much of her day with disadvantagechildren at an indian charity. they played the tambourine in a drum circle and danced to a bolly wood song. the 8 to 13-year-olds are all or fans or run-aways. mrs. obama spoke to them about education. she said along with hard work and confidence, education isey to being successful, no matter your family's financial situation. tomas was downgraded to a tropical storm after it hit haiti, but the cause for concern is far from over. it triered flooding and mudslides and at least seven people are killed. there are an estimated 1.3 million people displaced by last january's earthquake. most people are living in tents right now. on top of all that, there is a cholera epidemic, andoctors worry about the rain water spreading disee. >> my level of concern about cholera, malaria is incredibly high. i mean, the things that spread in this kind of environment with this kind of water, it's -- it's a lot worse than cholera. >> tomas is expected to weak has it passes over the turks and caicos islands. it is we go mans versus walgreens. why they could meet in court. and erratic driving brings the wall of a grocery store crashing down. andew cost cutting measures airlines are trying out. chuck. >> believe it or not, we had snow showers in the central mountains ofwest virginia. so the big question is,ill we get a warmup for our sunday?
