it happened again. another metro crash. three workers are hurt this time. once again, investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong. also, tiger breaking his silence and talking about what happened the morning of his crash. we'll also hear his they be's frantic call for help. another promising start for the redskins but in the end, they just can't pull off the win. good sunday afternoon. i'm craig melvin. first, the metro. another accident investigation on their hands. three employees were hurt overnight at the west falls church railyard when one train hit another. today's collision is the latest in a series of crashes to plague the transit agency. julie carry starts us off. >> reporter: the early-morning collision took place out of public view in the middle of this railyard next to the west falls church metro. they say a six-car train ending its overnight service pulled in the yard abo 4:30 and struck a parked train. the operator of the train and two employees received minor injury, even though the train was moving slowly, one train car was damaged and several were derailed. >> it was clear that one has significant damage and i can see that's the body and the structure is significantly compromised. >> the three injured workers were treated at the hospital and released. they are trying to figure out what happened. >> every instance has very different circumstances so that's why we investigate and make recommendations. >> this latest incident puts the spotlight on metro safety. since june, three metro employees have been killed. one crash claimed eight passenger's lives. in august, a veteran metro repairman was struck by a gravel-spreading vehicle. and a month later a worker was hit by a rain at the at the reagan stop. >> it is worrisome but i guess things keep happening. but like, i don't have i car and it's nothing i can control. >> others reason that metro has refocused on safety. >> i think metro is probably trying to do what they can to correct whatever issues they've got. >> metro said they notified the ntsb and the tri-state oversight about the accident but it could be weeks before an exact cause is determined. news4, false church, virginia. metro came under fire earlier this month when it was revealed they bard monitors from the independent tri-state over sight committee from track inspections. metro's board has ordered full cooperation. a maryland football standout has been killed in a drunk driving crash at around 3:00 this morning. the police say 22-year-old david erdman lost control of his trk. the truck slammed into some pillars and flipped over. 17-year-old steven dankos was killed. a star football player at river high school. another teenager was injured. driver charged with homicide by vehicle while intoxicated. the redskins took the lead into the fourth quarter and looked solid but it wasn't enough. the redskins fall in another late-game heart breaker. these are the tough ones to watch. >> this is even going to be more difficult than the loss last week. the redskins never appeared to be out of the game. they scored three touchdowns and fought back after turning over the ball but they couldn't stop the eagles and score points when they need them. the redskins fall to 3-8 as players describe it as an extremely frustrating loss. 27-24. third quarter, redskins down by two but they have the ball on the 10 yard line. jason campbell hangs wit it. throws to fred draif vis on the run for the go-ahead score. redskins took a 21-16 lead. the eagles take control. philly ties with a two-points conversion and then takes the lead on a field goal. down by three. fourth and one, campbell trying to make something happens and throws incomplete to santanna moss. that's it. redskins fall 27-24 dropping to 3-8. jim zorn says we're not packing it in yet. >> my main thrust is for those guys to keep getting back at it and keep getting back in line. don't splinter this football team. record is one thing but our team is another and togetherness that we sense on this football team must continue. >> the redskins, obviously, very disappointed with a 3-8 record but like you said their plan not to pack it in and it only gets tougher from here. >> thanks. tiger woods cancelled a meeting with florida police for the third time today. the world's number-one golfer posted a statement on his website taking full responsibility for the accident, just as 911 tapes of the incident are released. his statement does not answer questions about the early friday crash in front of his florida mansion. questions like why he was leaving his house at 2:30 in the morning and when whether he had argued with his wife before the crash. police said woods' wife use aid golf club used a golf club to smash out the window to help him get out. in his statement he says, in part, the unfounded an malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible and goes on to say his wife acted courageously during the accident. 911 tapes shed little light on exactly what happened >> woods' interview with police has not been rescheduled. someone shot and killed four cops in a coffee shot in seattle today. tonight, a massive manhunt under way for the killer. officers were working on their laptops when a gunman walked in and shot the three men and one woman. employees and other customers were not hurt. the county sheriff says he's sure the offersers were targeted because their marked cars were outside and they were in their uniforms. the officers were wearing bullet-proof vests. tuesday, president obama will announce he's sending more troops to afghanistan. he's expected to call for the deployment of 30,000 more service men and women. the additional troops would be used to secure cities and to train afghan security forces to gradually assume control. the president's biggest battle? it could be the cost. the republicans want the president to delay the health care reform bill. some democrats want an across-the dashboard tax increase. >> i have to see what four or five or sisks billion dollars over a decade for this effort will cost us on edge dmags unclear what caused car to crash into the river. the virginia couple who crashed a state dinner at the white house last week wants hundreds of thousands of dollars for a tv interview. they have cancelled tomorrow night's interview with larry king. a tv executive said they want to be paid, quote, mid six figures. meanwhile, two senators are calling for criminal charges against the calm. they got into the state dinner and got close enough for a picture with the president. they did not have an invitation. secret service has since apologized. records show montgomery county employees used taxpayer money to take sailing lessons and attend a spiritual retreat. the money came from the county's tuition assistance program which allows workers to take courses related to their field. a course law belled health education was actually a spiritual retreat in texas and a member of the fire department took a sailing class that cost almost $1,000. the tuition assistance program has been suspended. turning now to the weather. it was nice today. >> it was fantastic today. >> tomorrow? >> tomorrow not so great. as a matter of fact, our temperatures really going to be cooling off in a big way especially around mid week. some rain for the week, some wind for the week. nothing like today. let's look outside right now because we still have a really nice evening out there. there's a few clouds around the area but a lot more clouds will be moving in over the next couple of hours. today, temperatures were off to the races in the 60s and in just a moment, i'll show you a location or two this got into the 70s. reagan national, 64 degrees. started out chilly at 34. on this date back in 2006, big tornado outbreak that was around the mid portion of the month. and even here, we were under a tornado watch for this date back in '06. 56 your temperature right now. here's the location that got up to 71 degrees. fredericksburg, virginia, now you're at 59 degrees. but warmth right there down through the south. right now we're in the 60s around raleigh, north carolina. 59 atlanta. up and down the east coast, it's showers for monday. still, the clear skies hanging on around pennsylvania. and down through eastern virginia. but high clouds are on the way. already some showers around toledo, ohio and dayton. fastoving weather front through 2345id and southern illinois. and snow around midlands, texas. this is a low pressure system that will be organizing. that's the next system after the first part of the week. we'll see some moisture around here and showers, probably more than what we get on monday for wednesday and thursday. but could be some flooding around the gulf coast states coming up with that system and cooler air working in behind the system and temperatures iet now in the 30s. bismarck, 43. denver, early tuesday morning will start out in the 30s. so really cooling down for mid week. here's a look at the next 48 hours. high clouds in honest. by tomorrow morning, cloudy and the first drops of rain around here probably around 7:00 a.m. 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. and then we'll clear out. most of the rain curse before 2:00 p.m. and then sunshine back for tuesday. a tenth to a quarter inch of rain area-wide. lots of rain down through the gulf coast states. three to six inches. 47 to 46 degrees and by 7:00 a.m. showers will appearnd it university of virginia wasting no time getting rid of their head football coach. jason campbell marchs the skins down the field and look at this. he's into the ends zone giving the redskins a 7-0 avoids this sack. scrambles away and throws on the run to devan thomas downfield, a 35--yard gainer, a huge play for the skins and they were in business and had the momentum. three plays later, campbell drops back, gets pushed out of the pocket and stays calm. makes a great throw to davis. the rekins get in front 21-16. it could have been their day and game tied at 24. a 35-yard pickup and he beats carlos rogers on the play leading to a field goal and a 27-24 eagles lead. the redskins one last shot. fourth and one. and campbell pump-fakes. incomplete. campbell gets hammered on the play and the redskins lose, 27-24, and they are 3-8, dan hellie is in philly with more. lindsay two minutes into the game the redskins had the lead. they also had the lead with eight minutes to go but they failed to close things out. still winless on the road, they've lost nine straight away from fedex field and it's a stat these players are tiredf hearing about. >> it's frustrating. the way we lose, you know? you see all the guys up there giving a great effort. they're all fighting. a lot of teams would have packed it in but not this team. we'll continue to fight to the end. no giving up. you undefeated new orles saints on the horizon and things not getting easier. the players certainly not giving up but it's becoming quickly apparent that the end of the season can't get here soon enough. pierre and check it out. the frenchman tips it to himself and makes the catch on the touchdown and the comeback is on. in the fourth, indid has a one-point lead. houston tries to rally but picked off by clint and he returns it 27 yards for the score. the colts come back to beat the texans 35-27. they improve to 11-0. >> in college football news al groh is out at virginia. they fired the football coach after nine seasons at the helm. the firingame less than 24 hours after uva loss to virginia tech. they finished the year 3-9, their worse season in 27 years. >> groe is the first to go. and you got bowden down at florida state. >> question circle about maryland. a lot to watch out for and right now the redskins are just another devastating loss. >> and the saints. >> that would be a good rebound. >> could you ask the players what is left to fight for and they always say, "the guy next to me." and that's a good point. i was impressed with how they ground it out today especially. >>
