a woman who is expecting two babies but her doctors say they may not be twins. >> this is a bizarre story. and when you take your medicines for any ailment you have to be careful with what you eat and drink, that's because some foods work against some medicines. dr. jackie is in the house. she's going to be here to help us sort all of that out. also, police are dealing with a baffling disappearance. a 24-year-old woman hasn't been seen in the two weeks since she left a sheriff's office. a pregnant arkansas woman got the shock of her life when she found out the twins she's carrying aren't the same age. julia groven berg went in for an ultrasound that found one of the fetuses was two weeks older than the other. she believesheed got pregnant while she was already pregnant which is a very rare condition. some doctors are skeptical. they believe the fetuses are developing at different rate. she disputes this saying she wasn't prepared for twins, let alone babies with different birthdays. >> i was very, very shocking, very shock, for there to be two and then for there appear to be at that point in time two different age, the very first ultrasound it was surreal. >> okay get this, she is due to give birth to the girl first in december and then the boy in january. the doctors have planned a c-section to deliver them both. doctors will then conduct tests to determine if they are fraternal twins or just growing at different rates. it's estimated almost two-thirds of americans currently use medicines, 32 million are taking two or three meds a day. taking your pills may seem simple enough but many of us take them the wrong way. in "get healthy for life" getting the most out of your meds, dr. jackie is here to help us out. dr. jackie, start with some pills. some pills do not mix with high, fat foods. what's the problem there. >> reporter: when the fda does a test they come up with your typical american breakfast. two eggs, buttered toast. you end up displacg the drug. it doesn't get absorbed as well so you really shouldn't do that especially with medications like certain allergy medations and certain attention deficit hyperactivity disorder medicines. >> okay you say don't drink grapefruit juice with certain drugs. i've heard this. >> yes and you've never wondered what the reason was. it comes down to this is grapefruit juice is broken down by a certain enzyme in the gut. it's the same enzyme that's used to break down certain drugs so if you end up taking grapefruit juice it takes up the parking spaces, you end up not breaking down the drug, the drug levels go higher in the blood. >> and the drugs, cough meds, migraine meds, anti-cholesterol meds, ome antibiotics. >> and the list goes on and on and which is why when the pharmacists hands you with the paper with don't do this, don't do that read it. >> i guess so. don't go to bed after taking drug for osteoporosis? >> reporter: yes. but whenever you take those type of medications take them upright and stay upright. not telling you not to swallow a pill while laying down. it can burn a hole in your esophagus. be careful with that. >> give time to work down to your stomach. >> you don't want it to split and drinking enough water will not wash it down. >> reporter: right, it doesn't flood it on down. >> some pills of course we know you don't chew. >> reporter: that's right and two types. one say on them that they're interically coated and ones that are extended release because if you chew them you break down the ability to slowly dissolve. >> and plus they're nasty. >> yes. >> talk about using inhalers. first nasal inhalers. what on earth are we doing wrong. >> reporter: my mantra always is when spraying the nose, look at toes. don't put your head back, that's one. spray with this hand to this most ril and the opposite hand to the opposite nostrilo you're praying away from the spectrum. >> what's the problem with sprague towards the spectrum? she some are made out of speroids and you can thin it out and get a hole in it so you don't want to do that. >> no we don't so what about using asthma inhalers. >> asthma inhalers pretty simple. shake them up. make sure when you puff them you put it right in your mouth and you puff it. you don't want to stick it out here and catch the cloud. >> people do that? >> people do all kinds of things. >> okay. most of us will be getting flu shots, and you have some little tricks to make getting shots easier because some people -- my husband hate shots. >> right, can't stand them. >> no, no. >> you can put two ice packs on your arm and then they havewo shots to give your shots and especially a h1n1 and seasonal flu on either side. the other is there are certain creams, things that are sold over-the-counter. they are top cal numbing cream, certainly lollypops always help. >> uh-huh. that's aold trick. >> yeah. >> okay the trick for using eyedrops and getting them into the eye. >> right. so if you get your person, your patient, yourself to lie down and then your eye is absolutely flat facing the ceiling you can put the drop right in the corner of your eye near your nose with your eyes closed when you open up your eye that drop is going to roll right in. makes it easier. >> why didn't i think of that? >> that and a little bit of sugar. a teaspoon of sugar helps the medicine go down. >> thank you so much, dr.
