as a police chief, i have an opportunity to affect what happens in a major city. if you want to make a difference, you have to have the right education. university of phoenix opened the door. my name is james craig, i am committed to making a difference, and i am a phoenix. find the program that's right for you at phoenix.edu/beltway as we mentioned earlier in the newscast, a hurricane threat for tampa is delaying mitt romney's official entry into the presidential race. the gop announced tonight it is postponing all events at the republican convention until now tuesday afternoon. former florida governor jeb bush and former arkansas governor mike huckabee were set to speak tomorrow -- or monday, i should say. organizers say they won't finalize the new schedule until tomorrow. meanwhile, romney and paul ryan worked to get votes in ohio today. >> we have a very different vision for this country. the reason the president's failed in doing what he said he'd do is because his basic and fundamental belief about america just doesn't square with the america you and i know. >> we'll have complete coverage of the republican national convention. aaron gilchrist andallie carey will bring you live reports from tampa starting tomorrow night. we'll also bring you live coverage of the democratic national convention coming up in charlotte next month. but all eyes on florida coming up because of the weather as well. really throwing a crimp into the plans there. >> it is. >> so you're watching it. everybody's watching it. >> yeah. and you know, we've also had our hands full with our own rain. something we haven't seen a lot of -- >> kind of drizzled on me as i went to get a bielt to eat. >> wait till you see what the folks in roh hoebeth had to deal with. puddles everywhere. the beaches really got hammered the most so far. not that we didn't see any rain. but if you chose this weekend to go to the beach i'm so sorry. you really got slammed. and they're going to get some more tomorrow. how much rain did we get around here? well, these numbers don't really tell the whole story. okay. technically at national .05 of an inch and a tenth of an inch at dulles. half inch to an inch totals here and there, not at these official measuring places. and it was 82. that was the high today. the low 73. out there right now we have clouds and 72 degrees. and a busy northeast wind at 15 miles an hour. and we're going to be looking at more of the same tomorrow. i call this forecast mots. more of the same. we'll probably have a soaker around the middle of the day. the one difference, in the afternoon i think we'll see some breaks of sunshine, but not a dry afternoon. here's the latest. we have the heaviest rain coming in just around culpepper right now and route 29 and our far southwestern suburbs. the rest of us getting by with cloudy and very spotty showers at the moment. and that's what you're going to see tomorrow morning when you get up. some showers around. sun rises at 6:32. and much like this morning 68 to 72 for the temps. now, this low pressure area bringing us the rain is going to slowly dissipate tomorrow, but still, spreading its moisture here, right through the afternoon. and then as we head into monday, i think the showers push toward philly. and we'll see some sunshine and a break. and these showers close in on us, possibly for tuesday. let's take a trip down south, and let's take a look at florida, where they have hurricane watches and warnings and tropical storm warnings in effect. this pink area targeting the keys is the hurricane warning. and as i mentioned before, isaac is still a tropical storm, with winds of 60. but here's the time frame. category 1 hurricane when it crosses by the keys tomorrow late, 75-mile-an-hour winds, staying off the coast here. here's the different timelines. bumping up to a category 2. with 100-mile-an-hour winds possible as it targets the western florida peninsula. as we think about late tuesday heading into wednesday. around here tomorrow we've got the 80s once again and abundant showers. plan with me the next seven days. and here we go. we are wet tomorrow. monday we will eke in a dry day. a few isolated showers on tuesday. and then after that wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday, all look good. and high temperatures back in the middle 80s right where they belong. and you know what? i think saturday is, what, september 1st, i believe? >> already? >> i know. where did summer go? man. >> it's just about over. it's the last hurrah. >> oh, boy. >> i can't believe it. thanks, kim. >> you bet. coming up in sports, a rookie running back shines for the redskins against the colts. dan has the highlights coming up next. calling it the super bowl of the preseason. and you know it must be big if dan's here on saturday night for us, right? >> well, we could take another dose of this, couldn't we, in regular season? the final dress rehearsal went as scripted for the redskins. the starters played one series into the third quarter and exited with the lead. and perhaps more importantly, everybody remained healthy. the quarterbacks for both teams took center stage. it was the top overall pick andrew luck against the second pick, robert griffin iii making his home debut at fedex field. griffin iii getting plenty of help from fellow rookie alfred morris. the sixth-round pick out of f.a.u. forgot he wasn't supposed to be the star of the show. 17-yard gain here down to the 2 yard line. next play, punches it in for the touchdown. the first score of the game. and the redskins on top early 46 was looking good. the colts, though, strike back on the very next possession. andrew luck. look at the poise in the pocket, looking deep for t.y. hilton. a 31-yard score on a perfect pass. ties the game at 7. luck was 14 of 23 for 151 yards. the redskins again countered with the running game. tim hightower, very first carry since tearing his acl nine months ago. pretty, pretty good. 18 yards. down to the 4 yard line. that sets up this. rg3 corrals the high snap and hits santana moss for the touch. redskins go back on top 14-7. robert griffin iii 11 of 17 for 74 yards in the game. third quarter now. back-ups are in. andler harnish, a rookie from northern illinois, was replacing andrew luck and probably wished he'd waited a series or two. not lucky here. sacked in the end zone by chris wilson for the safety. it's now 16-7 skins. nice dance by wilson, too. then it was rex grossman's turn. last year's starter met by a smattering of boos from the home crowd. but he dissected the colts' second-string defense. 17 yards to terrence austin over the middle. and on the next play grossman again going over the middle. this time he finds d.c. native josh morgan for the 13-yard touchdown. morgan's first score at fedex field. heck, it's his first game at fedex field. the redskins take a 23-7 lead. grossman was perfect. 8 for 8 for 127 yards. the redskins end up winning it 30-17. afterwards we caught up with the rookie who made the greatest impact, and it was not rg3. >> i knew what i was capable of. i just was waiting for my opportunity. same thing happened in college. i was a backup. and i was like, you know, i'll just do what it takes whether it's specialeams or whatever it is p. same thing i was doing here. and once i got an opportunity i said i'm going to make the most of it. i'm going to make it hard for the coaches ton keep me on the lost every, hard for them to put me back a backup. i'm thank the for the opportunity to go out there and perform. >> yeah, he makes my job easy. and i told him that on the sideline. and his comeback to that was, well, you make my job easy as well. he's definitely a team player, a guy that hopefully can continue to run the rock like he is and continue to get big gains. 107 yards in a preseason game is a pretty good deal. >> how about that? rg3 getting asked about the sixth-round pick oust florida atlantic university. that's the last time, though, we're going to see robert griffin iii and most of the starters in the preseason. the game coming up on wednesday going to be featuring most of the back-ups. against the bucs. talking baseball now. the phillies aren't playing for much these days. trailing the nationals by 17 1/2 games in the standings. but they certainly haven't packed it p in. the phils not make things easy for our nationals. davey johnson and the boys were hoping to shake that two-game losing streak up in philadelphia. top of the fifth bases loaded. this is steve lomb barr dozi taking roy halladay down the middle. espinoza. suzuki waved home as well. the throw from the center fielder john mayberry not in time. suzuki ties the game at 2. mayberry gets his revenge an inning later. bottom sixth, gio gonzalez facing mayberry, and this is no longer a tie game. gio knew it on contact. a solo shot for mayberry. and the phillies take the lead. top nine, jonathan papelbon in to close it out. and that is unfortunately exactly what he does. gets danny espinoza swinging to end the game. phillies win it 4-2. the final game of this series tomorrow afternoon. it will be jordan zimmerman facing cliff lee. orioles and blue jays. former o and yankee great mike mussina added to the o's' hall of fame. fans were loving that and they would love this perhaps even more. bottom five tied at 2, two on for adam jones and this one's going to shallow left. in comes nick markakis and j.j. hardy. the o's go up 4-2, and they go on to win 8-2 over the blue jays. that game -- or that series, rather, wrapping up tomorrow afternoon in toronto. >> redskins gelling nicely so far. >> so far so good. 2-1 in the preseason. >> all right, dan, thanks. quick look at a soggy sunday? >> yes, absolutely. 60% chance of showers tomorrow, guys. but we will manage a high in the 80s. monday's my day to sneak in some sunshine. and wednesday into next weekend looks a-ok. like those 80s. and i like it not too hot around here. especially as i come into the home stretch carrying this little girl around everywhere i go. >> i was just saying, could happen at any time. boil the water, dan. >> i'm not here tomorrow. >> thanks. you're not. uh-oh. well, thas our news for tonight.
