middle of a public meeting yesterday. >> as it happened, the crowd in the room recognized something was wrong and that sentiment reached the highest offices of the city today. jackie bensen spoke tonight with the reporter who was led out in handcuffs. jackie? >> reporter: pete tucker is a blogger. he writes for this publication. it is called the fightback.org. he writes very passionately about the d.c. taxi cab industry and was willing to risk arrest to prove a point. >> this is a public meeting. >> last chance. >> this is a public meeting. >> last chance. >> i am a reporter. >> reporter: it was not something you would expect to see at a public meeting in the nation's capital. a journalist was arrested after taking pictures at a public meeting of the d.c. taxi cab wednesday. the meeting was held in an auditorium as the u.s. park police facility in anacostia. another journalist was arrested for filming it with his cell phone. it has caused such an uproar that d.c. mayor vincent gray has weighed in. i remain fully supportive of the district's open meeting act both in letter and in spirit. my office is inquiring into yesterday's incident to ensure that taxi cab officials adhered to these standards. >> i am encouraged that mayor gray is looking into this. >> reporter: as for attending more meetings of the taxi cab mission. >> definitely. this is what i have been covering and i look forward to continuing to cover. maybe other journalists will join me. maybe there will be a bunch of us with cameras. that's what public meetings are about. >> reporter: tucker and jim epstein, the other journalist arrested, both have court dates. >> thank you, jackie. a fairfax county judge imposed the death penalty on a man convicted of killing a young woman with a hammer. a jury convicted mark lawlor in the beating death of genevieve orange in 2008. he was a leasing agent. prosecutors say he used a key to break into her apartment and beat her with a hammer and sexually assault her. an attorney for lawler says he will appeal the sentence. new details about the charges against the husband of a city council men in falls church, virginia. news 4 has learned accusations of abuse stem from a birthday party attended by kids under the age of 10. darcy spencer is in falls church with more. darcey? >> reporter: jim, according to the arrest warrant, the sexual abuse happened inside the suspect's home and the court documents indicate all three victims are under the age of 13. 47-year-old michael gardner is charged with sexually abusing three young girls. according to an arrest warrant, the abuse happened last thursday and saturday at his home on ellison street in fal church. after taking his dna, they charged gardner with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of object sexual penetration. although the victims' ages are not specified, it does say they are under the age of 13. the exact circumstances of the abuse is unknown. neighbors say there had been a birthday party and sleepover at the gardners home last weekend for one of their children. >> i am surprised but maybe i shouldn't be. that sort of seems to be everywhere, that sort of thing going on. so i supposed i shouldn't be surprised. >> reporter: michael gardner is married to robin gardner, a current council member and former mayor of falls church. the couple have been active in city politics hosting democratic campaign functions. gardner is a former chair of the falls church democratic committee and writing commentary called the little city we for the falls church press. allegations of sexual abuse at a slumber party has concerned many parents. it won't discourage them, they say, from letting their children going to sleep-overs. >> it can happen. you have to have some level of trust for who you are leaving your kids with. you can be surprised but i'm not going to worry about it on a daily basis. >> reporter: gardner was released from custody earlier today after posting a $50,000 bond. he is due back in court sometime next month. we were not able to reach him tonight for comment. reporting live from falls church, darcy spencer, news 4. jim, back to you. >> thank you, darcy. the marine reservist who sparked a security scare outside the pentagon last friday is now facing federal charges in five shootings at local business meetings. he was charged with destruction of property and firearms violations. court documents reveal agents found shell casings and a video linking him to shootings at two recruiting offices and the pentagon. they found materials at his home that could be used to make a bomb. big shock for baseball fans in the washington area. only minutes after the nationals won again, the manager suddenly quit. what's up? >> their 11th win in 12 games. very il time. this was jim regiggleman came i and went out empty handed. he said if the team wasn't ready to talk about a contract extension, he would walk. they were not ready to commit to him despite the success. he has been a major league manager for parts of 11 seasons. he replaced manny acta in 2009 as the nats manager and has been working on one-year contracts as one of baseball's lowest paid managers ever since. he knows he may never be a manager in the majors again. he said, at 58, he is too old to be disrespected. >> i wanted to have a conversation when we got to chicago about it. mike said he is not ready to have that conversation. i respect his decision. i said, well, i have to give it up then. i'm obviously not the person that you all want to go down the road with. i get that. that's okay. but, you know, i love it here and i will miss it. >> today's conversation put to me in the way it was put to me, you say we can't make that decision in a knee-jerk reaction. it is too big of a decision to be put in that position. it was a decision i was -- jim's timetable was prepared to make and i was not. >> according to rizzo, riggleman told him before the game he wanted a decision by the end of the game or he would resign. meanwhile, the nba draft was tonight and there were no trades for the wizards. >> with the sixth pick in the 2011 nba draft, the washington wizards select yon vessely from the czech republic. >> yon veseley is a 6'4" forward with incredible athleticism. the 21-year-old has been scouted by the wizards for quite some time. they are hoping he will be a perfect fit with john wall. the wizards also had another first-round pick. a very familiar face. we will tell you about that coming up in sports. >> 78. waldorf, 75 degrees. what have we seen around the region? nothing here. we still have this frontal boundary back to the west. that's where it is going to stayover night. you see shower activity trying to make its way toward the east. most of it is dying out before it gets here. can't rule out a stray shower. most of us, if not all of us, are going to stay on the dry side. then, tomorrow, we will watch as this frontal boundary comes close toert region. we are going to see a better chance of storms than we saw today. we will see some sunshine. any time you see sun, you are able to get more instabl. that's going to create those storms. the best chance would be from the i-95 corridor to the east. the showers move off to the east by saturday. hot conditions move off to the east by saturday and we are left with less humid conditions this weekend. i really think saturday and sunday are looking very, very nice. if you are thinking about take the boat out on the bay, first off, call me. secondly, high temperature of 83 degrees on your saturday. sunday, high temperature of 82 degrees. it is really looking good. watch out, though, could be a little breezy out there on saturday. maybe a
