"the new york times" reports that one of them is a member of the redskins. galea was allegedly scheduled to treat that player last fall and agents began a probe foo his practice. the white house and nebz of congress are watching closely tonight as results come in from primaries in four states. today's votes are seen as a referendum on the way washington is doing business. >> reporter: rand paul is an eye doctor. he never ran for office. but he wins the kentucky senate primary by a wide margin backed by the tea party. >> i have a message, a message from the tea party. a message that is loud and clear and does not mince words, we've come to take our government back. >> reporter: the republican establishment, in fact, tray grayson, but he got buried. it's the second win for the tea party that ten days ago denied renomination to bob bennett, not conservative enough. >> the tea party movement is about saving the country from a mountain of debt that is devouring our country. and i think it could lead to chaos. >> reporter: paul could face a tough general election in november. jack conway is ahead in kentucky's democratic primary. incumbent democrats had a tough day. blanch lincoln might face a runoff. in pennsylvania, long-time republican arlen specter, who admitted he switched to being a democrat to try to keep his senate seat lost it anyway to democrat joe sestak. >> it really is time for a new approach to politics to where principle triumphs over politics. >> pat thume wins the republican contest in pennsylvania. the party that is surging in these primaries is the tea party. a bicycle race took an unexpected turn today when somebody sabotaged the course and more than half a dozen riders crashed. some of them got scrapes and bruises. one of them broke bones. and now the police want to know who's responsible. we spoke with a rider whose helmet camera reported the most crucial piece of evidence. we were riding a one-mile loop. these were 25 to 30 miles an hour. >> reporter: crashes are a part of cycling races. but the one you're about to see in leonardtown sunday is now the source of a criminal investigation. >> we were coming down the backstretch here, setting up for a corner that we were about to go around. >> the video comes from a helmet cam. the group rounds the turn, he's the last to go down in the pileup. baker was the first to fall. his tire blown. on the phone, he told us he made a startling discovery. >> i'm thinking something wasn't right. i started checking my equipment. and sure enough, the front wheel had been blown. and i found a tack in it. >> reporter: more proof in this video taken by a tack victim earlier in the race. multiple crashes were caused by tacks in several races. investigators want to know who intentionally put the tacks on the course. >> first reaction is you feel like you just got a fault. angry. that crash, several thousand dollars of bike damage, multiple injuries and frankly could be a lot worse. so somebody who is doing something like that is really taking the chance of potentially killing someone. >> reporter: this is the nasty gash left in his leg, another cyclist suffered a broken bone. now they hope the video will catch the culprit. >> clearly, someone wanted to see the damage happen. >> reporter: still, the incident won't keep baker or vaughn away from races next weekend. >> going back for more. hopefully no more of this, but more racing definitely. yes. it's been a race again the clock for the family of a chevy chase boy with a rare form of leukemia. there's been an international effort to find a bone marrow transplant match. now it appears there's been a breakthrough. jane watrel joins us live from georgetown hospital with more. >> reporter: devin was undergoing chemotherapy treatment here at georgetown hospital. his family was desperately searching for a bone marrow match. it was a search that went viral on the internet with celebrities as demi moore and paris hilton pleading about their plight. just days ago things were looking grim for this little boy, a 4-year-old chevy chase boy was in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. but a match seemed unlikely. >> we were told by doctors that chance of devin would match anyone else is one in 200,000. >> why? because he is multi-ethnic. his mother is south asian. his father is caucasian. a rare combination that couldn't be found among 13 million registered adult bone marrow donors. friends even launched a website to plea for help. and it came. in the form of a phone call monday night from duke medical center. >> our life line here is they found cord blood they believe is a good enough match that it will work for him. >> reporter: the family is relieved but they're determined to keep holding bone marrow drives and spread the word to pregnant women about cord blood. >> we have a path forward. our message is please donate. cord blus is otherwise thrown away. now we have the technology. we're get better and better. we can save lives. >> as for devin, there's a long road ahead. ten weeks of chemotherapy and then leukemia into remission before he can even begin the transplant process. >> something that usually takes about six months. but the fact that we even have getting to the place where we can have a transplant is amazing news. >> reporter: they have news and they still plan to to warm up and dry out. police believe a man died on a metro train today and then stayed onboard for several hours. actual lishgs it happened yesterday. the man gone on at the twin brook station in montgomery county at 10:15 in the morning. the train then traveled almost the entire lengthst red line and back before being moved to a rail yard at shady grove just before noon. the dead man was not found until 3:00 that afternoon when metro workers prepared the train for the departure. metro says they'll review the procedures for train inspections. a new federal report criticizes virginia tech for handling of a shooting rampage that left 33 people dead. the department of education says virginia tech failed to comply with campus security laws during a massacre three years ago. those laws require a timely warning when crimes or threats are reported. virginia tech disputes the findings, though. it says the standard at the time allowed university officials to use their best judgment after consulting with law enforcement and that's what they did. the police in montgomery county looking for two people involved in a brutal robbery and beating caught by a surveillance camera. it happened on may 5th in aspen hillin side an apartment complex along georgia avenue. five guys beat up a resident and took his cell phone. the victim's ribs were broken. police arrested three teenagers. the group is accused in a similar robbery that happened over the weekend. still to come tonight, it's legal for those over 18 but the dea doesn't think it's safe and now more and more teens are getting their hands on synthetic marijuana. >> we're getting new looks at the oil leak in the gulf. federal agencies are put on the hot seat. and veronica says there are big changes ahead in ou last week local high school students were hospitalized after smoking an unknown substance. it may have been sin they haddic marijuana. it is perfectly legal and has taken off in popularity among teenagers and adults. health concerns are leading to some states banning the stuff. synthetic form, so, yeah, we're going to do this. i feel great. >> reporter: k-2 is not marijuana but some say it may as well be. people are smoking it all over youtube and so are many in and around d.c. a man we're calling andy who does not wand to be identified sells it, a lot of it. >> it's really typical to sell 3,000 to $4,000 a day. >> smokers get a high they say is as close to marijuana as you can get, legally. they're talking about it on youtube. >> immediately you get the tingly sensation on your face. >> reporter: without any advertising, andy says his client base has grown since they started selling it several years ago and it's not just college kids. places like this one in d.c. and different shops than the one andy works with sees government workers, teachers, servicemen and those struggling with addiction. >> we get referrals. they're trying to keep people out of jail. >> reporter: but the product isn't even supposed to be smoked. it is labelled as incents. each package it states not to use for consumption. winking and nodding between smoker and seller is what has some doctors so worried. the national capital says they're getting more and more calls from frantic smokers who had side effects. >> people seem to get more agitated. they get paranoid. some even have seizures. >> reporter: and no one is sure why because no one knows for certain what is in synthetic marijuana. >> no one has checked. what's on the label is what is actually in the product. you don't really know what herbs are in there. you don't really know what you're smoking. >> we ask every single one of the manufacturers if they're adding a synthetic to their products and they say, no, absolutely not. >> reporter: do you believe them? >> no. i don't. >> reporter: well, you can get k-2 and lots of other brands like it at more than a dozen places in and around d.c. two months ago, kansas became the first state to ban synthetic marijuanas. one county in missouri just followed suit and the state legislature is considering a bill to make the stuff illegal everywhere, nebraska and north dakota are also considering bans. >> this is legal weed right here. >> reporter: state lawmakers wrangle over whether it will stay that way, the drug enforcement agency says they are already tracking these products and analyzing ingredients and safety procedures. >> the chemicals are many more time potent than marijuana. you're playing russian roulette here. >> that was krig melvin
