broke out at a house party in baltimore. ray was from montgomery county. darcy, good evening. >> reporter: good evening, craig. one of his coaches tells me he led a difficult and troubled life, bounced from foster home to foster home and despite that excelled in athletics. 20-year-old darius ray a lance corporal in the marine corpsas murdered early saturday morning. the magruder high school graduate was stabbed to death at a house party in baltimore. he was a star athlete. he is shown here sacking the quarterback. he played basketball and axeled in track. doug miller was his football coach. >> he was just a joy to coach. he was incredibly athletic. he holds school records from as far back as the early '70s in the long jump, high jump and triple jump a. well-regarded athlete. >> reporter: police released few details. they say he was at a party around 4:00 in the morning when there was an argument with some uninvited guests who were asked to leave. they left and one returned and stabbed ray in the upper body. he was pronounced dead an hour later. coach miller said ray had a tough life, in and out of foster homes but smart and happy despite his disadvantages. >> he is a good kid. he fell through the crack and you would like to have it over again but, unfortunately, you can't. most kids knew his background and knew he had a lot of adversit and worked through it and became a well adjusted kid as well. >> reporter: we're told ray was based at the marine corps bar rack in washington, d.c. baltimore police are continuing the investigation. they have persons of interest in custody and are hoping to make an arrest very soon. reporting live from rockville, darcy spencer, news 4. >> thank you. a flight that left dulles international airport headed to las vegas had to be diverted. a passenger tried to open one of the plane doors midair. united flight 223 landed safely in denver, colorado. police and the fbi escorted the man off the plane. police are interviewing him right now. he could face federal charges. the man's name was not released but we talked to a man from this area who was on that plane. he told us he and another passenger helped wrestle the guy to the ground. also tonight, we are learning more details of an attempted bombing of a flight on christmas day. as the suspect was being led away he admitted trying to blow up the plane and claimed there was a second bomb onboard. he was not read his rights for ten hours and clammed up. some lawmakers say he should have been in the custody of military police instead of fbi agents. the death toll in haiti has reached roughly 200,000. amid all that death and destruction, rescuers managed to find someone alive. a man who has been trapped there since january 12th. he initially survived by diving under a desk and sustained himself on a steady diet of soda, beer and cookies. meanwhile, back here in washington, there was a special mass today to honor and remember those killed in haiti. at sacred heart catholic in northwest washington worshippers carried candles hopping relatives and friends who have died. hundreds with ties to haiti, politicians and people all california are called to save another animal. this afternoon firefighters were called to free a horse in rolling heights, california, check that out. the 20-year-old horse got stuck in the mud. this seriously hurt. emergency crews shut down the expressway as they race to get the blaze under control. a collision between an oil tanker and towing vessel created an oil spill in port arthur, texas. two barges crashed into the side of a tanker. 450,000 gallons of crude oil may have spilled. it is unclear if the oil leaked into the water. fortunately, no one was hurt but nearby homes were
