[ light laughter ] president obama warned President Trump against hiring mike flynn as his National Security adviser because obama knew that flynn had some dirty dealing with the russians. Of course, he also had to know that if he gave trump advice, trump would do the exact opposite. So why would he oh, oh, i see. [ laughter and applause ] i see what you did. Well done. Well done. President trump this weekend tweeted twice, his staying in new jersey saves the country more money than if he stayed in new york city. Or if you really want to save some money hold on, let me just check kayak. Com and yeah, how about this place . [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause ] almost no money at all. Health and Human Services secretary tom price spoke about the new Republican Health care plan yesterday, and said that americans will be covered in a way that they want. Pa like pine, maple, walnut. [ light laughter ] an ohio preschool teacher was fired after a photo circulated of her dragging a student down the hallway. But she was also offered a new job. [ audience groans ] [ applause ] according to a new report, senator Bernie Sanders wife, jane sanders is being investigated by the fbi for alleged bank fraud. Even worse, her husband is being investigated by the local deli for alleged splenda theft. These should be free. [ laughter and applause ] the mtv movie and tv awards were last night, where the best kiss trophy was awarded to a samesex kiss. And we have a clip of it right here. Be that, the Trump White House was on the defensive today after news that then president obama warned trump not to hire his first National Security adviser Michael Flynn. Meanwhile republicans were dealing with the fallout from their Unpopular Health care bill. For more on this, time for a closer look. [ cheers and applause ] seth before we get to health care, there was as usual, another major story developing today with the Trump Administration. This time it had to do with trumps disgraced former National Security adviser Michael Flynn who had secret contact with the Russian Ambassador and whose irrational behavior caused concern among National Security experts on both sides. Today, we found out that trump had been warned about hiring flynn by president obama himself. It was president obama who warned then president elect trump on november 10th. Youll remember that 90minute Oval Office Meeting that they had here at the white house two days after President Trump was elected, then president obama warned the president elect, not to hire Michael Flynn. To stay away from the retired general. Seth yeah, doesnt surprise me that trump ignored obamas warnings during that meeting. Just look at trumps body language right after it finished. [ light laughter ] he looks like a high schooler who got just dressed down by the principal. Young man, i think you need to start hanging out with a better class of people. Well, i think youre fake news what was that . [ light laughter ] nothing. [ light laughter ] now, obama had some experience with flynn, because flynn worked for obama as the head of the Defense Intelligence agency until obama fired him in 2014. And yet, despite obamas warnings, trump has been trying for weeks to pin this whole thing on obama, as he did in a recent interview with fox news. Just remember, he was approved by the Obama Administration at the highest level. And when they say, we didnt vet, well, obama i guess didnt vet. If somebodys approved at the absolute highest level by the obama or a previous administration, i mean, does anybody ever ask about them . About them . If they did, heres how that conversation would go. Hey, obama why didnt you fire flynn . I did. Why didnt you warn trump about flynn . I did. Wait, where are you going . Maui, mother [ bleep ]. [ cheers and applause ] best of luck with it all. So the blame obama defense doesnt make sense, which may be why Trump Administration officials moved on to a more ridiculous defense. They thought obama was joking. According to nbc news, a Trump Administration official said obamas remark seemed like it was made in jest. [ light laughter ] you know, i knew wed eventually pay the price for having a president that was as funny as obama, because someone dumb would think he was joking about something serious. Oh, my god, obama. So funny, told me mike flynn couldnt be trusted, i was dying. Then he said no, stop laughing. Im serious, trump. I fired him for a reason. And i said, stop it, i am seriously going to pee my pants. [ laughter ] but while trump was dealing with the flynn situation, republicans in congress were dealing with Unpopular Health care bill. After passing the bill on thursday, republicans spent the weekend in their home districts meeting with constituents. And those meetings did not go well. The fight and fury mounting over the House Health Care bill. Just days after passing a new Health Care Bill in the house, some congressmen are getting a hostile reaction at home. These are human beings we have bodies. We have minds youre a fraud. Youre a phony. And your days are limited. Youre people on medicaid, except dying. You are making them no one wants anybody to die. You know, that line is so indefensible. Nobody dies because they dont have access to health care. [ audience ohs ] seth nobody dies because they dont have access to health care . Thats like saying nobody dies from falling out a window, its the pavement that gets you. [ light laughter ] in fact, republican members of congress emotely then at a loss to try to defend this billn as a reporter un he tried to ask a gop congressman why he voted for the bill and found that he had nothing. How do you know this is going to be right given there is no cbo analysis to exactly say how many people lose coverage and the impact this would have on the economy . I know we are doing the right thing. But how . I know. [ laughter ] seth oh great. So now, elected representatives are voting for bills the same way gambling addicts pick horses. I got a good feeling about this one. Come on, gimpy joe. [ light laughter ] part of the reason gop members of congress are having so much trouble defending this bill, is that many of them openly admit they have not read it. When theyre not admitting it, theyre dodging the question. As a reporter found when he asked members of congress in the capitol last week. Congressman, have youve read the bill . Concerned about voting on this congressman, have you read the Health Care Bill . [ light laughter ] good morning, congressman have you had time to read the Health Care Bill . Were still working on it. Gentlemen, have you read the bill . Core bill . We are in a hurry. Well be back. Congressman, have you read the healthcare bill . Seth man, that reporter couldnt have gotten dodged any harder if he had a clipboard and green peace tshirt. [ laughter and applause ] no, i cant right now. I hate whales, sorry. [ light laughter ] then there was South Carolina congressman, mark sanford who danced around the question of whether he read the entire bill. Did you read this entire bill . [ light laughter ] yeah, i wouldnt say every, yes, i turned through every page. [ audience ohs ] [ laughter ] seth i bet you are a lot of fun in book club. I thought this was a real page turner. In that i turned every page. [ laughter and applause ] i like how page 77 was between 76 and 78. [ light laughter ] and when theyre not admitting they didnt read the bill, republicans are openly trashing it. Like congressman mario diazballart, who voted for the bill, but said after the vote, this is bill highly imperfect. Imperfect, okay . Theres no doubt about that. Is this bill good . No, i dont like it. [ light laughter ] you voted for it and youre saying that. What were your wedding vows like . Was she my first choice . No, sir, never said she was. [ light laughter ] is she highly imperfect . You bet she is. Is she happy to be here . I doubt it. She hates me too. [ light laughter ] so to recap, many republicans admit they didnt read the bill. There was no updated Congressional Budget Office analysis before the vote. And a major new amendment that got the bill over the finish line was made public less than 24 hours before the vote. Of course this rushed process is exactly what republicans claim to hate about the obama care process of 2009, including paul ryan. As we showed you last week. Back then, ryan claimed to hate exactly what he is doing now, including to obamas face. I dont think we should pass bills that we havent read, that we dont know what they cost. If you rush this thing through before anybody knows what it is, thats not good democracy. Speaker pelosi is trying to jam her bill through fast as possible. I think this is less about Health Care Policy and more about ideology. This is not bipartisan. We all want to fix this. But we dont think that this is the answer to the solution. And all the analysis we get, proves that point. Now, ill just simply say this. And i respectfully disagree with the vice president. Seth look at obamas face. [ light laughter ] true story, thats the exact moment his hair turned gray. [ laughter and applause ] now now this, this is also a true story. After we aired that segment last week, we here at late night actually got an email from speaker ryans Office Taking issue with our analysis of the Health Care Bill and the rushed process. And unlike republicans and their Health Care Bill, we actually read the whole email. But this is great because we genuinely appreciate the engagement and would love to have speaker ryan on the show. Suffice to say we dont agree with the email. And we thought it would be helpful we took a second to respond to some of their claims point by point. For example, they took issue with our characterization that the bill was rushed, writing, this bill has been on line for a month. Went through four house committees and the only change this week was a simple three page amendment. Which is misleading for a number of reasons. For one thing, that three page ament republicans changed their minds and voted for this bill. So you cant claim it is a small change. A lot can happen in three pages. Thats like saying i made you a cappuccino with hot water, sugar, espresso and one other ingredient. You would say, well, what is the other ingredient, mr. Cosby . [ audience ohs ] [ applause ] also, you dont have to take my word for it that the bill was rushed. Just listen to republican senator Lindsay Graham who said any bill that has been posted less than 24 hours, going to be debated three of four hours, not scored, needs to be viewed with suspicion. Like yall, im still waiting to see if its a boy or girl. But come on, its a Republican Health care bill. Its not a girl. [ light laughter ] the Speakers Office also took issue with our claim that this bill literally takes from the poor and gives to the rich by cutting taxes on the wealthy. While simultaneously, cutting 880 billion in medicaid. They responded that, the bill does not only cut taxes on wealthier americans. The bill repeals all of obamacares taxes. And sure, there are other taxes in obamacare, like the mandate penalty, and a tax on medical device manufacturers. Thats true, but obamacare is funded largely by taxes on wages and investments of people making over 200,000 a year. And under the gop plan, those people will get a giant tax cut. Wealthy americans, are said to get a sizable tax break under the gops Health Care Bill. And the ultra wealthy will see an even bigger tax cut. Some of those in the top 1 of incomes will get a tax break of 33,000. Wow. Those in the top 0. 1 would get average tax could of about 197,000 under the gop plan. The 400 wealthiest households in america, because of the tax cut will, see annual tax cuts of 7 million per household. Seth 7 million. So basically donald trump is giving himself a giant tax cut. Money i assume he will use to buy even longer ties. [ light laughter ] we also told you last week that worse by adding a new provision that allows states to waive out of obamacares ban on preexisting conditions. Now the Speakers Office claims states can only waive the ban on preexisting conditions if they set up what are known as high risk pools, which are basically separate insurance plans for older and sicker people. But historically, those high risk pools have provided worse coverage and much higher costs. And on top of that, some republicans dont even seem to know how the high risk pools work in the first place. For example, texas congressman joe barton claimed that high risk pools have worked in state of maine. And when he was fact checked on cnn, he had to admit he didnt know what he is talking about. What maine did, they didnt put high risk people into high risk pool. They used the high risk pool to subsidize the premium of high risk people that were in a regular pool. Congressman, actually, what the state of maine did, and im fascinated to know if youre willing to do this, is they assessed everyone. I mean, they put a tax on everyone. 4 a month to pay for that. That was their funding mechanism. Are you willing to support a tax to do that to put more money in these pools for high risk invi conditions. The plan we are going to vote on today doesnt have any taxes in it. It does have federal subsidies. I know, im saying to you, youre pointing to maine as an example. Youre saying maine worked, so this will work. I am telling our viewers, maine worked because of the tax. Are you willing to support a tax to make it work . I dont know all there is to know about the maine plan. Seth then why did you bring it up . [ light laughter ] it worked in maine. Actually, it didnt. Stop asking me about maine. [ light laughter ] dont know what you are talking about. Im from texas. [ light laughter ] the bottom line is this, republicans rushed this bill through for ideological reasons, despite the fact that every Analysis Shows it would cut taxes for the wealthy, raise premiums for older, sicker people and kick millions off insurance. If they really wanted to solve our health care problems, they could start by looking, for example, to other countries like australia which has universal Single Payer Health care that insures everyone for a fraction of the cost. In fact, when he met with the australian Prime Minister last week, trump basically seemed to admit out of nowhere, that their single payer system was better than our sys the best part though, is the reaction of Bernie Sanders when he saw the clip for the first time. Its gonna be fantastic healthcare. Right now, obamacare is failing. We have a failing healthcare. I shouldnt say this to a great gentleman and my friend from australia, because you have Better Health care than we do. They do have [ laughter ] they have universal healthcare. I thought, i know. I thought you would. Oh okay, wait a minute. Wait a minute, chris. All right. The president has just said it. Seth i havent seen bernie laugh that hard. [ laughter ] bernie hasnt laughed that hard since the public bus he was on drove through a puddle and sprayed a millionaire and a billionaire. [ laughter ] this has been a closer look. We dont like to be apart. Seth thats great. You have to stay on the same street. At the least, at the very least. What was it like, both being on broadway at the same time . It was kind of amazing. And we saw each other so much more than we ever do. Seth sure. Because the we do, some days we have two show days that we have this threehour break in between shows, we go for dinner and hang out. It was kind of bizre mommydaddy dates during the week. We were like, whoa. Seth and then after, would you guys party it up after . I mean, i know you have to young kids. Partied so hard. Seth okay good. Partied so hard. Seth im so glad. The way you say it, makes me think you didnt, but im gonna give it to you. [ light laughter ] no, but we did. Seth yeah. We definitely partied so hard. No, we have children. We have children and they get up very early. Seth what about how did audiences react to the show . cause i know the show is a comedy. Yes. Seth and it was incredible, kevin kline was a great. Yes, hes very incredible. Seth did you fiend from night to night, you had different reactions from audiences . Yeah, i mean this is my first time doing broadway. And i have done some theater before, but this is, its just a massive space. Theres so many people in the audience. And every night is different. I mean it truly is. The thing that i find the most entertaining is like some, on some nights, theres like commentating that kind of happens. Seth okay. Audio commentary . Yeah, theres this one moment yeah, theres this one moment in the show, spoiler alert, but not really, but i, i and so i do that in the show. And i give it a good one. And i just hear oh, my god she slapped him. [ laughter ] and im having this moment where im trying to be really upset and really pissed off and storm off and, just likr, theyre just saying exactly what just happened. Seth yeah. I like that theres this certain age person who lives in new york that feels if they pay a certain amount of money, they will say what they want, and you will just have to hear it. Yes, absolutely. But i enjoy it. I enjoy it so much. Its just every night is a different night, like you said, and its been so much fun. Seth you got nominated for a tony, congratulations. The show did, yes, yes, the show. [ cheers and applause ] the show, yes, yes. Seth what is how is the show after the nominations come out . Is everybody sort of losing their minds . I was like expecting like, that. I was but we had a cake with kevins face on it. And then we had a show that night. And we just kind of continue on. I mean, we do eight shows each week. Havent have seen it yet. So we try to entertain everybody as they come in. Seth right, they dont really care that you got nominated. Yeah, they dont really care. They dont really care. Seth uh, this is no. Are you excited you and tarran and your kids, when this is all over, youre gonna go back to california. But you are not gonna get on an airplane. No. Seth you are going to rent an rv . Yes. Seth wow, rv across the country. We are. I havent seen so much of america. Like i went down to new orleans for the first time a year ago. I havent really been to the south. There is like, the middle chunk of this country that i havent been to. And so we are going to explore. Seth thats really exciting. I dont know what its gonna be like, but itll will be fun. Seth i assume that your 2yearold has no take on this at all. Is the 8yearold excited . I think so. I think its like the excitement comes from like, we can, you know, we dont have to, we can lay down while its moving. I dont quite know the rules of the road, too. I dont know if like, do you have to wear a seatbelt if you are in an rv, like at all times . Even in the back. I dont know. Seth yeah. I am sure there is some sort of rule about that. To just kind of pull out the beds and sleep. Seth yeah. And be on the road. Seth now, are you sort of mapping out destinations . We still have to do that. Because, i think initially, i was really excited. Like lets go to chicago. Lets go see my friends in chicago. And its like, just driving in in the rv. Like you cant just like roll into cities in an rv, right . [ light laughter ] like you have to hook up to electricity and gasoline and like running water. To like function your mobile home. Seth yeah, i used to live in chicago, and i never saw an rv, yeah. [ light laughter ] so we have to kind of reroute, maybe the national parks, and get a little bit more. Seth you were just, you were in portugal. I was, in december. Seth what were you in portugal for . I was doing a convention out there. Seth okay. And so obviously you, how i met your mother, also the avengers films, when you go international, what are you most recognized for . Well, its so weird, you know . How i met your mother it was a great show, and it lasted a very long time, but i think because of the netflix of it all, ki but in portugal they play it like three times a day. And so there is, very large fan base out there. So its, they have like a lot of passion for the show. And for the characters. And it was really fun. I mean it was a great trip to go out there. Seth do they are they such fans that like, do they ask you things . Do they, are they look sort of, is fandom, the same there as it is here, where people are intense about it and ask you crazy questions . Yeah, just but in broken english. [ light laughter ] and, for me, because i havent been on the show, i mean its been three years, i think. Yeah. Since we wrapped our ninth season. So lets just do the math there. Its been a moment. And so there are some things that i just dont remember. And they ask me questions, and i have no idea. Seth and what do you do when you cant answer a question . Well i was doing a panel. I did a panel in portugal. And just an hour before i met this really sweet young guy, and he, he had this bible like he kind of presented this bible to me. And it was, in each episode it was every character that was in it, every prop used, wth story line. It was all broken down. I was like, oh my god this is amazing. And somebody asked me a question. I think it was about, we have this im not even going to be able to say it correctly, but there was a pineapple involved. And he wanted to know what happened to the pineapple. And i was like uh. And i am in front of thousand of people. And im like, thats a great question. [ light laughter ] rodrigo, are you in the audience . And he was. And he jumped up on the stage. Seth oh my god, that must have been the dream for this guy. I mean he was very excited, and i was even more excited. Seth so he knew where the pineapple was. He knew where the pineapple was. And it was apparently it wasnt im not surprised i didnt know it. But it was in like the dvd extras or something. And i was like i have no idea. But thank god for rodrigo. Made me look really good. [ applause ] seth by the waywe could all use a personal rodrigo. I agree, i agree. Seth the amount of times that my wife asks me a question, and i wish i could be like, uh, rodrigo . [ light laughter ] can we justn seth rodrigo i know has a giant thing that might have the answer. I know, it would be great. Seth so taran, last time he was here, he was talking about, he directed, wrote and directed a film. He did, yes. Seth and lets kill gunther . Why were killing gunther. Seth why were killing gunther. Yeah, but we should all go kill gunther, yes, yes. Seth and gunther is played by arnold schwarzenegger. He is, yes. Seth you are in the film as well. Yes. Seth what was it look being directed by your husband . It was wonderful. I mean i want to be in every movie he directs, i mean not only because he is a talented amazing director, which we learned through this process, but also because i have like the best schedule. [ light laughter ] seth okay, right. Like in at 10 00 a. M. , out by 1 00. Its pretty nice. But it was a really wonderful experience. And we shot it in vancouver, which is my hometown. [ cheers and applause ] seth yeah. We got vancouver in the house . A lot of vancouver. There some people who either like vancouver or are from. Seth a strange amount of people from vancouver. [ laughter ] but he was awesome. And hes such a great director. And hes so good at it. Yeah, i am really excited for it to come out. Seth fantastic, you are also doing a show on netflix called friends from college . Yes, yes. Seth and thats directed by nick stoller. Hes a fantastic director. It is, yes, yes, he is wonderful, yes. Yeah, i went out. I went out. I went out. I rented a plane. Seth okay. And i flew around im a pilot, so i flew around the island. Seth gotcha. Thats so good to hear that you were a pilot ahead of time. Yeah, i just how does this thing work . Seth yeah, very lax airplane rental laws in hawaii. How hard can it be . How hard can it be . Come on. Piece of cake. Is this the pedal . Yeah, so, yeah i flew arou seth great. And i also took a kite surfing lesson. Seth okay. And that was weird cause i should have known better. Because when i called the guy up he said i said where should i meet you . He goes, meet me on the side of the highway. You will see a white van. Seth oh yeah. I mean its so jeffrey dahmer, right . Seth yeah. So, you know, i go, and i see the van, right. And he has this little zodiac, you know, this Jacques Cousteau type zodiac, and he goes pull of the zodiac and drag it down to the water. Seth the zodiac being the boat . Yeah, the boat. Seth okay. So im lugging this guys boat down to the water. Seth is he helping . No. Seth okay. [ light laughter ] so then he goes so then we puttputt out to this beach, little spit of beach with these private houses. Its like we are trying to steal a little, just a little dry land. So, why . So we can pump up the kite. You have to pump up the edges, and he goes, hey bro, i am so gassed from my morning lesson, would you mind doing it for me . Im paying 400 for this. Seth yeah. Okay. So we get in seth this is like a mr. Miagi type thing where he [ laughter ] absolutely. Seth yeah. I dont know, right . So he goes, jump in the boat. I have to hold on to the kite. We get out. Puttputt out about 20 minutes. Then he goes, okay jump in the water. I go, okay. I jump in the water, and as im doing that, hes got this, the vietnamese big hat. Seth yeah. You know they help keep the sun off him. Puts up his bandanna, around his face, cause you know hes out in the sun all day. So he doesnt want to get the cancer, or whatever. So im like, a bandit is my instructor. [ light laughter ] and so, im floating out in the water, right . He goes, okay, go ahead. Try and get the kite up. I tried, and it crashes down. He has to puttputt out, try to help, get it aloft for me. All that. And one time, the line gets caught in the propeller. Seth okay. And so hes like, oh, i see this. Hes like, way out there about 50 yards, and i just see this. [ laughter ] and he didnt tell me anything. So im just sitting out there in the water. Should i come in . Hes like just like this and then and then, im getting, feeling the little heebiejeebiish. Im out there for like 15 minutes. Seth yeah. No, thats not a good scene. Hes pulled out the engine and hes sitting there, going, right . So i say to him, i go do sharks, are sharks around in this bay . He goes like this [ laughter ] seth 400. 400. Seth 400. Adventure. Youre on a great show on wgn called underground. Yes. Seth and this is about the underground railroad. Yeah. Seth and you have to ride a horse in that show. You had never ridden a horse before . Yeah. Seth and you have to sort of be menacing on a horse. You cant be a guy who looks like hes never been on the horse before. Yeah, thats going to kind of hurt the whole idea of me being seth yeah, cause youre sort of a bad guy, whos like a slave trader. I cant be like, whoa. Stop. Seth yeah. Thats not how whoa. With one hand. Right . You got to ride it with one hand. Seth oh, yeah. Yeah, that took a while to learn that sort of thing. Its like anything that you learn. You know, soon as you you think oh, i got a handle at this. Boy that horse, man he teaches you otherwise. Because they know. Seth oh right. Theyre like human beings. Seth they know false confidence. Absolutely. Seth yeah. And they know like when youre not on point. Like, if you drift a little bit theyre like pff [ bleep ] [ bleep ] this. Im going home. Weve talked about many of Donald Trumps Business Ventures, Trump Airlines being one of them. You actually flew Trump Airlines once . Has any one flown trump air . Seth cause you had to do it very quickly. Theres a very small window of time that you could actually fly Trump Airlines. Yeah, it was maybe six months. Seth okay. Whatever it was. Yeah, but it was that little shuttle from new york to d. C. Seth uhhuh. Yeah. Seth what was it like . Well no one assaulted me or threw me off the plane so. Seth well thats nice.
