we're reporting. a lawyer tells nbc news the ousted dictator is still alive after reports spread of his death on tuesday. the 84-year-old has been moved to a military hospital in cairo where he's said to be in very critical condition, and as mubarak fights for his life protests have erupted in tahir's square as to who will succeed him. both claimed victory in last week's elections yet it's uncertain if the ruling military council will recognize either. the official vote tally is expected tomorrow. as the g-20 summit meeting wrapping up in mexico, european leaders could not afree on specifics to fix greece and spain. nevertheless president obama is optimistic. nbc's steve handelsman has more from washington. >> reporter: two days at the g-20 summit in mexico left president obama convinced european leaders can solve their economic crisis. >> they understand the stakes, they understand why it's important for them to take bold and desoogsive action. >> reporter: that could speed recovery, put more americans to work and help his re-election. >> but that's not my biggest concern right now. my biggest concern is the same concern i've had over the last three and a half years which is folk who are out of work or underemployed or unable to pay the bills. >> reporter: mitt romney is says the obama fix is the european fix. more spending to put people to work. a romney adviser called that ignorant. >> i would point out that we have one president at a time and one administration at a time. >> reporter: domestic politics, he said, ought to stop at the water's edge when a u.s. president is overseas. i'm steve handelsman, nbc news, washington. well, presumptive republican presidential kaent mitt romney says marco rubio is being vetted as a possible running mate. he was not being checked out and out of the running are false, according to romney. he said he can't imagine who are the unnamed advisers quoted in those stories. former penn state football coach jerry sandusky may take the stand in his own defense today. the judge says the sandusky's defense team is close to wrapping up. yesterday dotty sandusky testified in her husband's defense. nbc's brian mooar reports. >> reporter: the wife of jerry sandusky took the witness stand to defend the former pen football state coach over charges that he abused ten boys over the years. she emerged as a key third-party witness, perhaps jerry sanduskiy's hope of a best ailably. they say she was nearby when sandusky abused them at sleepovers at the family home or on trips. the wife denied there was any inappropriate contact. she said she never saw or heard anything. earlier a defense expert says sandusky suffers from an obscure mental disorder. forensic psychologist elliott atkins says his diagnosis of histrionic personality disorder offers an alternate explanation for what were previously described as creepy love letters from sandusky to one of his accusers. day two of the testimony focused as mump on knocking down charges as building up sandusky's reputation with a parade of character witnesses recalling his good deeds. brian mooar, nbc news, bellefonte, pennsylvania. and now here's a look at some other stories making news early today in america. in florida an airport camera captured a woman groping a tsa adviser after she tried to explain what hatched to her when another tsa ajechblt searched her. they claim their agent did nothing wrong. even more strange she's hers a former tsa worker who hugged another tsa worker. police say a man attacked a store clerk, evoking and then biting the victim's face. the employee said he thought he was going to die. the robber escaped with cash and is still on the loose. and finally in california a woman was critically injured after the car she was riding in slammed upside down into a pool north of san diego. police think the driver was speeding when he lost control on a street out in front that sits on a hill known as roller-coaster road. he plowed through a fence before it finally came to rest in the water. and now for a look at your national and regional weather, here's nbc meteorologist bill karins with the weather channel forecast which some will be feeling leaf, others not so much. >> yes. that was a nice pool too. i've got my eye on everyone who owns a pool today because you may just find me in your backyard. well, good morning, everyone. we're going to continue watching this heat wave spreading to the east and we're going to be preparing for a hot two-day stretch. a lot of areas in the northeast consider three days in 290s a heat wave, but it's going to be so extreme for the next two days that we have heat advisories, we have heat warnings out for the greater philadelphia region and the hudson valley. anywhere in the light yellowed colors including boston, hartford and d.c. are under advisories. how hot will it get? already this time yesterday were nine degrees warmer in these areas. six in d.c. we're starting to get off to a warm start and a lot of sunshine which we haven't done for the last couple of days in the region. 98 for d.c., 98 in new york and 98 in boston. even if you're near the water, it doesn't matter much. a little cooler back toward pittsburgh and buffalo. it's a two-day event f we're going to see temperatures similarly as hot in boston to d.c. for the next two days, 98 to 99 degrees. also, lynn mentioned some leaf is come. today it's going to be around the northern plains with some thunderstorms. that's a look at your national forecast. now here's a look outside your window. so the heat wave today goes from the ohio valley all the way to the mid-atlantic and the northeast but the relief is coming to milwaukee who has been very hot lately. you euro going to get hot today but the thunderstorms will cool you off. also denver much cooler. so chicago, today will be the last day of their heat wave. tomorrow is on the way. >> if you happen to find someone in new york city, would you call me? fed policy meeting. the central bank wraps up its two-day meeting this afternoon and investors are optimistic it will extend its operation twist program, which is lower long-term interest rates. speculation is less certain about another round of bond buying stimulus known as quantitative easing. they lead the rallies with u.s. steel making biggest gains. elsewhere investors were encouraged by signs in the housing market with builders breaking new ground on more sing single-family homes and requesting more permits than they had in three and a half years. shares of oracle shot up 3%. fedex added 3% despite warnings economic groikt would weigh on its early profit. on the downside wall green tumbled 6% on news it's buying 45% stake in the pharmacy chain alliance boots for $6.7 billion. jc
