The president then went to the pentagon where he placed a wreath at the site where 184 people were killed when one of but in the end the most enduring memorial to those we lost is insuring the america that we continue to be. . . And crown thy good with brotherhood . . In shanksville, pennsylvania, hundreds gathered to honor the 40 passengers and crew members killed at the crash site there. Family members expressed gratitude for the everyday heroes who gave their lives to crash the hijacked plane believed to be headed for the u. S. Capitol. A bell of remembrance rang at 10 03 this morning, the time of that crash. Here at homestate buildings paid tribute to the 15th anniversary of 9 11 by lowering flags to half staff. Governor mccrory this weekend released a video statement honoring the victims, Law Enforcement and firefighters who continue to sacrifice their lives to protect others every day. At raleighs historic remembered for their service both on 9 11 as well as every other day of the year. Wrals candace sweat joins us now with that part of the story, moving to be sure. I spoke with the cemetery director after the service and 15 years may be enough time for many of us to separate ourselves from that raw emotion we felt the day of the attacks, but she says 15 years is just the right amount of time for the cemetery to start a new tradition of honoring our First Responders. Flags at the headstones of Service Members at the historic Oakwood Cemetery were perhaps most symbolic of what was truly lost 15 years ago. [ flute playing ] reporter nearly 3,000 people perished, First Responders included. [ applause ] reporter which is why the cemetery director saw it fit to honor those trained to run toward danger when for most instinct says otherwise. An opportunity to thank everyone and an awesome chance on the local level to those who do the same thing every day. Reporter in the crowd gary meade looked on in the Program Standing and acknowledging our local police and fire personnel. He knows firsthand the emotional weight of the job. He had the unimaginable assignment of going through the rubble at ground zero. He says the images are engrained in his head, but the details hardly ever leave his lips, not even to share with his wife. Because i did lose some friends. My wife doesnt even know some of the things because i was on the hazmat team search and rescue, confined space terrorism. Reporter raleigh cadet chief says programs like this not only show appreciation for First Responders past and present, but create a time for reflection. It made us all reflect on fear, but hope. Reporter always moved at some of these local stories that are so moving and personal to so many people involved that day and im toll that Oakwood Cemetery hopes this is the first of many more years of this kind of program that they can view in honor of our First Responders particularly on 9 11. A raleigh woman who was working at the pentagon the day of the attacks for getting her out of the building safely. Christina jones was working on the fourth floor when the plane hit. She says she remembers thinking the pentagon would be next after hearing about the World Trade Center. Moments later she was thrown to the floor. A man who i call my angel, he saw me going the wrong direction and he said christina, you have to come my way because if you dont, youre going to die. So many stories like that importantly she wants us to heal. So many still livedly remember watching the 9 11 attacks on tv a decade and a half ago and if you werent in front of the tv, chances are good you remember exactly where you were when you heard the news. Hillary clinton abruptly left a 9 11 Anniversary Ceremony this morning after falling ill from pneumonia. Video of clinton leaving the ceremony shs getting into a van. She went to her daughters for a while and then later said she was just fine. She was diagnosed with pneumonia friday and is on antibiotics. She has no scheduled events tomorrow but is scheduled to be fundraising in Northern California the next few days. Its unclear how the pneumonia diagnosis could affect that trip. But there was one building where there were 11 victims in that building and somebody built a little reflecting pool in the building split up into 11 equal parts seconds a drop of water drops from the ceiling into each one of those compartments to be symbolic of a tear being shed for that victim. Wow. That really hit me, you know. Its the little things. It really is and when you walk around. Anyway going on and on. We could talk about it really forever because these days you really want to, but we have a lot to talk about here. We. Do its very hot. Thats day 65 now of 90 degrees or higher and that ranks eighth this date, but if you just look at it from july 1st through now, were tied for first place in terms of the number of days at or above 90. Still warm with midand upper 70s around the local area and pretty much the same deal across the entire area. Fayetteville is still sitting at 80. High temperatures across the country, the 90s now confined to the extreme southeast with cooler less humid weather off to the north and west. We wont get the full takes of that but at taste of that the course of the next couple days, big chunk of real estate with fair skies and heres the boundary between the warm humid air pushed away at least in part from all this comfortable air over the nations midsection. If we look at the overall temperature pattern, these ping and gray shading pink and gray shading indicating where the hottest temperatures are, that gets suppressed nicely the next couple days and then another frontal system arrives back especially heading toward friday and saturday. Overall this week should be considerably more tolerable than what we experienced last week. All right. For the rest of the night i think for most of us the shower threat is over, again just a slight chance in our far southeastern counties, overnight low 68 and then looking for a partly sunny day, best chance of showers and thunderstorms, southern pines, goldsboro, fayetteville, clinton, those areas.
