You are watching a pretty serious storm. This storm really blew up out of nothing. We talked about this boundary between the 50s for the 80s and the stuff that would parliament along that. This one really took off. You can see the lower cloud base here. A lot of times when a severe storm gets going and it tries to form one of these what we call wall clouds, if it keeps going, can produce a tornado, we hope this one doesnt do that, but it is indicative of the fact that moisture is conjugating in that area and the cloud base ends up being lower than it is in all areas around it. So it is really a good sign of weve had reports of golf ball sized hail with this storm north of durham. This is from the Doppler Radar in northern wake county. It updates every minute so it gives us a really good view of what the storm is doing. And before i zoom in on that, i just want to point out that the boundary we talked about, the front if you will between the two Different Air masses, the radar picking that boundary up just north of rdu and beeen durham and chapel hill and again, this is an area where the potential for additional storms to form, we are agoing to have to watch out for and whenever you see storms forming on the warm side of the boundary when they move northward across it, than they get into a favorable wind shear pattern for rotation. That is another thing to watch as we head into the evening hours. Lets zoom in to that a little bit more tightly here. That warning in effect until 6 45. Abendage here but we dont have any serious indications of tight row degrees. At this point, it looks like mainly a hail and strong Straight Line wind threat as it moves off to the north and east. So durham proper, you are avoiding by all means the worst of this storm. All right. Lets go ahead and take a look at the satellite and radar mosaic. You can see the widespread showers and storms off to the west. That is the disturbance that will be greatly enhancing the chance of more widespread activity later this evening and into the wie wee hours of the morning. So you can see the boundary stretching like this and again, that is a breeding ground for new Storm Development as we head new the evening hours and then farther south, it is pretty much a uniformly warm air mass.
