Yeah, some of the protesters who had been camping there for several months, as you know, they set fire to their wooden shacks as they left. Ordered by the government to get out overnight. A handful were arrested outside the camp for obstruction. 250 to 350 remained inside the camp overnight. The army corps of engineers called for evacuation because of the threat of spring flooding. We feel that for life and safety reasons, that this is not a place where people should be living in a place that has no sewer no water, in a flood zone. A 7yearold boy and 17yearold girl were burned by the fires and taken to a hospital. Officials say those still inside the camp will not be arrested if they leave voluntarily overnight. Deadline to evacuate or face arrest, some protesters began ceremonially setting fire to parts of their camp, preferring to burn it rather than have it seized and destroyed. The protesters began gathering here last april, opposing the construction of the 1,200mile Dakota Access pipeline that would run from north dakota to illinois. They say the pipeline would disturb sacred nativeamerican sites, and pollute rivers and water supplies. The Pipeline Company says it will be safer and cheaper than trucks or trains. Clashes between protesters and police have turned violent in the past. At its peak, the movement drew thousands. We saw many of the few hundred left packing up and moving out. I dont know what to do. Once all the protests are removed from the campsite, then the massive cleanup effort will get under way. The Company Building the pipeline says it could be operational in as little as two weeks.
