A lot of people he is dealing with are ideologues. He is a guy who doesnt come in and this is what the analysts have said hes not a politician. He does come in with an opportunity, a real opportunity to sit down with all sides. I want to pick up with something you raised, the shift in the Republican Party statewide. We know that Nicholas Pileggi has been told hell have challenger. Two senators said im not going to support you. What can we see coming out of the republican senate. Will he win that race and what does it mean in terms of governorring where this senate is going . Well it would be Dominic Pileggi the majority leader is in a tough fight to hold on to his majority leadership. There are those in the western part of the state that blame him for Liquor Private pension reform. He has been made the scapegoat for him. It would be a devastating loss to the region to lose him as majority leader. We were talking about this earlier, i think its a loss for the region. I think it puts that much more pressure on governor elect wolf to be able to get things done. I think if you look at where the votes were and where the majority of votes are, they are in this region. Theres a strong civic group in the region that has been working on issues across the line. Its a huge loss. Who will be the leader without pileggi whole bring that gap to be a moderate or republican. We dont have any in the city of philadelphia. Representative john taylor is there, but we dont have somebody in the burbs. We have a few, i should not say that. Its west versus east now. Correct. If you look at the map west is red and east is blue. We lost all the way around, both on the democratic side and the republican side. I just hope that wolf has a lot more compassion for us when he does the distribution, philadelphia is a priority. Lets get a final note on corbett there was talk this week whether or not Jerry Sandusky had a role in his loss his role in having joe paterno fired. Now he is saying he should have been suspended for three days. He is saying we have to accept the sanctions from ncaa. Im one of the 328,000 alum of penn state university. I would tell you that the exit poll said 40 of the electorate said penn state was an issue and how he handled it. Center county the home of penn state went 54 for corbett in 2010. It went 42 for corbett in 2014. I think that issue made it a 6 point race to a ten point race by the end of the night. Lets open it up and look at the National Race and sometimes the picture tells the story. Lets show you what the political map looks like when you went to compare red and blue, lets say there aint a lot blue. There you go, thats what it looked like. Let me read you some stats, the difference between obama came to office in 2009 when he will face next week. The democrats have gone from having 60 senators to 45. From 256 congressmen to 192. The ledge legislative control to half in the united states. Did anything happen in this country or is it he is there and the republicans are there. The obviously thing that happened they kept him at home. They wouldnt let him campaign. He came here and did a good job, the largest rally that tom wolf had, 60,000 people was in philadelphia. I really think they make too much of the political. His base did not come out at all and theres a lot anger because nobody has done anything on immigration and some of the issues related to the poor and his base which happens to be africanamerican latino. One of the things that was a surprise to me was the woman who did come out and the woman totally voted in larger numbers on the republican side. He would have lost in my opinion in the last president ial race if his base hadnt come back. I would argue, nelson, African Americans came out, there was a big turnout in philadelphia. Latino voters came out in certain places. Where there seems to be a drop off in the midterm elections is with young people and what we call casual voters those are people who very much follow the big National Conversation and when you get to these midterm elections they are not there. The other thing is, i think the electorate was looking fogger something new. Him if you look at tom wolf, you look at the whole issue of someone new, someone who is a businessman. Even when we look at maryland, a businessman comes in under funded against a democratic candidate. However people figure out their power base if they do nothing they will be out in two years. I have to ask because there seems to be a debate among republicans about what happened, did people pick republicans and republican policy or were they so fed up they wanted nothing to do with washington they saw washington as being the president and they tossed out his party. If we were mad at everyone you would see incumbents lose across the county. That was not the case. After 30 years of seeing rapid dramatic increase in the size of government, government gets bigger and bigger and less and less accountable and people not feeling safe. Take ebola for instance, this is something that the government has known about for three decades now, but we dont seem to have an answer how to keep people safe for from this virus. The government at every level seems to be failing us. That what we saw people coming up to the polls. Whoever runs next, you can do same things safely, protect you from Foreign Terrorists thats whole win. Two years republicans could be on the hook you had both sides of congress and you got nothing done. And mcconnell said it best we have to show now now that we have the Strong Majority well pass legislation, that doesnt mean that obama isnt going to veto it, but you have a record, when you get nothing done people want to throw you out. When you have a record, you can say we passed legislation, the president vetoed that legislation. The dirges between now and two years ago looking at the national scene, republicans had much better in my opinion candidates. You didnt have anyone saying confess about rape or abortion or controversial things. They learned how to get out the vote, you didnt do well, i think its a joke to say that Big Government had anything to do with it. Bush got whoa, whoa. Lets stick with democrats who are looking to rebuild. The president had a press conference republicans had a good night. But he made it clear on immigration he might be willing to take executive action, john boehner said if you do that you poison the well. Should he do things out of the oval office or work at small things trying to approve to people we can get things down. Whats the right course. I think in 2010, it was said we took a shellacking. Just about everyone on the panel said why would you give up and begin to compromise before youve gotten into a conversation with the other side. I think he learned from that experience, i dont think he has to understand, i still have power, i think senator mcconnell said it, he has the power to retow. He has certain powers to move on immigration, i think he has to move ahead. If he pushes on immigration, solely executive, he may please his liberal left constituency, there will be anger, nothing will get done. I dont think he feels he can get anything done in the next two years. He feels the common issues of operations related to the taxes and transportation. Thats the only thing. In terms of this is ultimately about power. Everyone will understand what they bring to the table and each issue its going to look at who can ultimately move something ahead. If it doesnt happen, 2016 is going to be about nothing is done in washington. My republican friends i wonder how this is going to work out for Mitch Mcconnell who has a number of young pups in his senate that have an eye on 16. Is he going to have trouble in his own caucus for people who are going to grandstand. I think the next republican nominee is going to come from governor, the last 6 years is showing that a senator is not the best choice. We have 31 governorships and someone from outside washington with executive experience. Well take a short break and come right back. We have a lot more to talk about. Welcome back to inside story, after elections we could talk for three hours. Thats true. Now that elections are over the next big thing on the local horizon of course is the mayors race. The primary coming in 2015. Nelson your name has been bandied about. Have you decided . I have an Exploratory Committee and ill know in january. Darrell clark its the big will he or wont he . Its a big question i have asked 17 people and i could say seven said yes and ten said no. Go to 17 other people its the opposite. He is the big dog in the race and what he decides is how other folks organize. Sunny in the city you have to resign if you announce. He can continue in this role until january or until people start filing in february. Williams seems to think hell do it, have we seen any fire on the republican side to come out and have a primary poll. We would love to, someone in the business community. Olivers name has been mentioned. He is an africanamerican and republican. Like doug he is a friend and i wish him the best if he decides to move forward. Another panelist farah,. I was going to say i was for nelson diaz until he called my comment ridiculous. [laughter]. Michael nutter is going to be a surprise. Are there any people who might be a surprise winner next spring . Abrahams name is there, williams is working hard to gather support. I would like to see william get in. Tony william i think has pretty much made up his mind. Lets talk about something related to the last mayors race. Chaka fattah was out as the front runner. Weve seen two people plead guilty to charges related to how money was i illegally filtered supposedly into that campaign. Wherever they talk about elected official a this is him with the second person pleading guilty. The question is what happens and what are they not charging him and what why is it dragging out . A lot of people are asking, why is it taking so long and its just a drip drip . Is it because they are not able to build a Strong Enough case and looking for evidence if they keep it public, that more information or other people may come forward. And you need a corroborating witness. Whats clear politicians cant seem to keep their hands off the none profits that they run, they run them as their own piggy banks. Im not saying thats what happened here. More politicians have more trouble running their own nonprofits. Your firm is representing him. Does it turn up the pressure on fatah to do a deal . I love the the inner circle, he wins 97 or some percentage beyond 90. The pressure along with his job. Do you start to hear people starting to joke about jockey about wanting that job . You heard the mayor, getting back to the city council is the mayor going to resign early and take that role does that then make Darrell Clark the mayor, believe me speculation is not something we lack for in this town. Who needs thursday night on abc with scandal we have it right here. The src is facing a lawsuit from a group that said the way in which it made this more to change things around and how it funds healthcare it violated the sunshine law they were not given enough notice about the meeting to be ready to go this is in front of common pleas court. Do they have a good case . Did the src mishandle how they took that vote . I think its an issue. Irrespective of what the issues, its going to take a while to get to the Supreme Court. Theres three vacancies saturday of resignations and issues. They have to get some appointments. He gets pointed by the governor until the next election, at least two of the vacancies. You have 3 running at the same time in may 15. They a may be a totally Different Court by the time this case gets up there. They are already in Commonwealth Court for disbanding the contract. This gets bunched in with it. Its almost like it doesnt matter. Likely the Supreme Court thats where the real decision will be. Its going to be a while.
