So many lawmakers told us they hope this is a turning point in the country that we bring down the temperature of the rhetoric. You can see them praying, both democrats and republicans kneeling on that field just a day after the shooting and that was quite a moment, robin. It certainly was. Almost 25,000 people were at the game. A record crowd. The most weve ever seen, 25,000 showing their support and unity. The fans holding up these signs saying scalise strong and one family. That is awesome. The president also had a message for the crowd. Well have much more on that ahead. First to the breaking news this morning, the Russian Defense ministry saying they may have killed isis leader Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi. Our chief investigative correspondent brian ross has the latest. The claim came this morning if an official statement from the Russian Defense ministry say they may have killed the isis leader in an air strike about two weeks ago. This morning the u. S. Military says it cannot confirm the claim but if true it would certainly be a major victory against isis. Abu bakr al baghdadis brutal reign only began three years ago but in that time as the founder of isis, he became the face of evil to the civilized world. History will regard baghdadi as a blood thirsty tyrant. During his reign his organization conquered a vast stretch of territory ruled over Something Like 5 Million People and he imposed his iron will and executed anyone who stood in his way. Reporter and it was baghdadi who inspired his followers to stun the world with social media videos that depicted barbarism and atrocity, among his thousands of victims were four Young Americans taken hostage in syria. The russians claim one of their air strikes last month near the city of raqqah targeted a meeting of top isis leaders and that some 300 of them were killed. The russians say baghdadi was at that meeting and thats why they say they may have killed him but the statement is far from definitive and no word of baghdadis fate. If baghdadi is, indeed, dead, what does this mean for the fight against isis. Robin, probably in the short term it will have some effect in the fight around raqqah. It may upset the isis leadership. So but longer term think about what happened after bin laden, not much. This is an ideological struggle. Not like north korea where if kim jongun was killed the regime would collapse. In an ideological structure like this killing an individual soldier may not have a longterm effect. As david just mentioned this is not the first time that he has been reported dead. So how do we know for sure . Well, we dont. Remember, raqqah is a city under siege so the russians have no hard evidence. Theres no dna evidence that would suggest that hes dead. The other thing is this morning, robin, the department of defense and the u. S. Has told us that theyve heard no chatter. So nothing to back it up. No intelligence to back it up. But now another twist, the post reporting that as part of the russia probe, mueller is also investigating the finances and business dealings of jared kushner, the president s soninlaw. Kushners lawyer telling ab news we do not know what this report refers to. Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with congress what he knows about russia related matters. He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry. Mr. President , do you believe that you are under investigation now . Abcs linsey davis outside that courthouse in norristown, pennsylvania, with the latest. Good morning, linsey. Reporter good morning, david. Day five and fatigue and frustration have both now set in. It was as if you could see the air going out of the tires yesterday as cosby accusers learned that the jury was deadlocked and at this time cosby supporters now say its time for the judge to declare a mistrial. This is unprecedented. Reporter bill cosbys spokesperson expressing outrage overnight arguing its time for the judge to declare a mistrial. The jury of 12 struggling to reach a unanimous verdict has now deliberated for 40 hours. Thursday morning when jurors reported they were deadlocked. The judge sent them back to try again. While cosbys fate hangs in the balance, Andrea Constand, the former temple Womens Basketball director of operations who claims cosby drugged and assaulted her in 2004 tweeted this lighthearted video shooting hoops as she waits in the courthouse for the verdict. The tag line, always follow through. Her case against cosby is the only criminal prosecution from the allegations of more than 50 women who have accused the comedian of drugging and or sexual misconduct. Several accusers attended the trial and expressed their frustration with the jurys deadlock. Like victoria valentino who has been here for two weeks and came all the way from california. I feel very deflated. Im worried but i do im holding on to some hope because the judge is telling them to go back in there and work on it. Reporter thursday tempers flared on the steps of the pennsylvania courthouse between cosby supporters and an alleged victim. And while early in deliberations the jury asked to have the testimony from both constand and cosby read back to them its now been more than 24 hours since the group asked a question. In a case like this where you have no witnesses, you have no forensics, its a he said she said case and credibility is everything. Reporter if the jury comes back again and tells the judge that they are deadlocked at that point it really is at the judges discretion to determine if hes going to say that this is a mistrial. If he does, at that point bill cosby would walk out a free man and then it would be up to the District Attorneys Office to determine if theyre going to try him again. David. Linsey davis who has been on the case since the start. Dan abrams is with us so theyre deadlocked. Yep. The judge tells them to go back and try at it again. How common is it, though, that a jury changes its mind, someone on the jury and come back with a different decision. It happens occasionally. Judges do this in any case where a jury says, we cant reach a decision. The judge is effectively saying, please, go back, talk about it. See if you can reach an agreement. Think about all of the time and effort that has gone into this trial. Hes not saying that but the judges goal here is see if theres any way to get a verdict. I have seen cases where despite the fact they said were deadlocked they then change, they talk and they do reach a verdict. But it doesnt happen all the time. Not all the time. If it comes back and the judge declares a mistrial today what then for bill cosby . He walks free. For now then the question do the prosecutors decide to retry him and i think theyre going to be two key factors there. Number one, what does Andrea Constand think . Does she want to go through this again . If the answer is yes that will have a big impact on the prosecutors. Number two, what was the vote on the jury . Meaning if they were 111 for a conviction, i think it would be hard for the d. A. Not to retry him. If it was 102 for an acquittal it makes a much better argument to let it go. Doctors here describe Otto Warmbiers state as one of unresponsiveness wakefulness and said he suffered extreme brain damage. His family still processing that devastating diagnosis. This morning, new footage showing Otto Warmbier in pyongyang just before he was detained. The 22yearold throwing snowballs with fellow College Student s and north korean kids. The warmbiers releasing this playful video hours after doctors revealed otto suffered extensive brain damage during his captivity. Warmbiers father railing against the north korean regimes treatment of his son and their claim he contracted botulism. Even if you believe their explanation of botulism and a sleeping pill causing the coma and we dont, there is no excuse for any civilized nation to have kept his condition secret and denied him to notch medical care for so long. Reporter after only a onehour trial in march of last year i have made the worst mistake of my life. Reporter warmbier was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for allegedly stealing a propaganda poster. Were thrilled that our son is on american soil. And im able to talk to you on ottos behalf and im able to wear the jacket that he wore when he gave his confession. Reporter but this morning, what happened to the university of virginia student during his nearly 18 months of detention. Still a mystery. Doctors saying all they know is his brain was deprived of oxygen. This study showed extensive loss of brain tissue in all regions of the brain. Reporter they say they see no evidence of botulism or of physical beatings. Doctors say warmbier likely suffered some sort of respiratory arrest, the cause of which is not known. The family are keeping the next steps in his medical care private for now. Thats understandable. Thank you. Our senior medical contributor dr. Jennifer ashton joins us with more. So what could have possibly caused his condition . Well, robin, this is where we have to do that medical detective work and take what we have in front of us, in this case a patient who cant really relate his own history and try to think back in time as to what could cause Something Like this. When you talk about di fuse global brain damage, that does usually occur as a result of what we call an anoxic brain injury or deprived of oxygen. The brain is incredibly sensitive tissue, can only really withstand that for a few minutes and if that is not correctly and swiftly repaired, absolutely can cause permanent and irreparable and severe brain damage. And the doctors say they have ruled out botulism. Can that be tested for so far removed . Well, i mean, in theory, yes, you can test the blood for antibodies to this bacterial toxin. Those assays have limited evidence in the medical literature but botulism 101, this is a toxin liberated by a back tear that can be found in soil, wounds or contaminated food. It causes what we refer to as a descending paralysis so it starts in the head and works its way down the body and, robin, to be clear, there are reports, it is out there in the medical literature that botulism can possibly be used as a weapon of bioterrorism, although, again in this case no evidence from the medical team that is what happened. So, what do you believe possibly the prognosis could be for him . You know, this is a tragic case and obviously im not his physician, even his medical team is not giving what we refer to as a prognosis. You know, in someone who has severe and global or diffuse brain damage we worry about that person being able to protect their airway and aspirating contents from the stomach into the lungs leading to, you know, severe and sometimes fatal pneumonia. But the rehab for someone like this is extensive. Very specialized care is required. I would imagine so. Jen, thank you very much and, boy, are we thinking about him and his family. Thanks so much. We turn to that story breaking oversthiet, two inmates on the run since tuesday finally captured in tennessee taken into custody after a chase with police and Abcs Steve Osunsami is in madison, georgia, this morning where the prisoners were last spotted before they were caught. Police hope they can have the two fugitives back home as soon as today. Caught and headed back to prison this morning, the cell mate, fugitives and now accused murderers seen here in handcuffs in tennessee. The small town georgia sheriff who led the manhunt hopes to have them back in his county today. If they waive extradition well ill go up to get them. Reporter their run from the law came to an end after police say they broke into an elderly couples home thursday, held them at gunpoint and then drove off in their suv. The couple had the wherewithal to break free and notify authorities. Reporter the authorities came running. The highspeed chase lasted for ten miles on interstate 24. Moving in and out of traffic pretty good. Traffics picking up a little bit. Speeds about 100. Reporter one of the escaped inmates was driving. The other in the backseat shooting at police. I think i hear shots fired. Reporter thats when police say they crashed the suv, lost their guns in the wreck, raced into the woods and then walked to a nearby home hoping to steal another car. But the homeowner had a gun and held them until police arrived. The homeowner stepped out and held the people there by gunpoint until another neighbor came to assist him. Reporter 43yearold donnie rowe was already doing life in prison. 24yearold Rickie Dubose was in for 20 years. Now theyre facing murder charges accused of killing two guards on this prison bus as they made their escape tuesday morning. No word on who gets the reward. It was up to 130,000. Im not there and then fast forward to dressing room and i thought i dont know why he was calling me and he says, you know, theres a wonderful young woman thats having a son in three weeks, would you be interested in adopting him . Wow. And i was like three weeks. What . You know, i didnt and, you know you were there in the delivery room. Yes. From the i was actually i actually went from the set of all eyes on me. Flew to where she was giving birth and i was there in the delivery room and cut the cord and, you know, im so proud that pierce, his name is pierce hill harper that he chose me to be his dad.
