Got a little bit of good news, i think. But were going to start with the breaking just overnight. A bizarre and violent attack at the airport in new orleans. Chaos as a man stormed a tsa checkpoint wielding a machete and wasp spray. That toxic aerosol designed to kill bugs. You can see the suspect in this picture right there on the ground with his machete right next to him. Seven people were injured and abcs Kendis Gibson is at the airport for us this morning covering it all. Kendis. Reporter dan and paula, you guys mentioned it. It was a scene of utter, complete chaos. Take a look at this. I want to show you, you see that guy there in yellow, thats where the first tsa agent was attacked. I spoke with an eyewitness to all of this moments ago. He describes a scene of complete and utter panic with people running all over the place, women and children screaming and crying. Overnight, chaos at a major airport. Seven people, including a machetewielding man are injured this morning after an attacker stormed Security Officers at Louis Armstrong International Airport in new orleans. Some guy came through with a machete, apparently. Reporter the suspect 62yearold richard white, terrifying travelers as he allegedly bombarded two agents with toxic wasp spray rushing through a presecurity checkpoint. This guy comes running with a machete over his head swinging it, and i start swinging my suitcase at him and he runs the other way right into a tsa agent. Reporter charging the security gate, the suspect was stopped by two more agents before he began swinging at them with the 14inchlong blade. The male tsa officer grabbed a piece of luggage in order to defend himself. Reporter sheriffs deputies stationed at the airport opened fire shooting white three times to stop the rampage. And all of a sudden i just hear gunshots. I hear pop. Reporter travelers scrambling for cover in concourse b that serves southwest airlines. Everyone in the area as you can imagine, started screaming. We all got down on the floor and they opened the floors to the emergency jetways and they hustled everyone in there. Reporter three Airline Passengers among those injured in the fray. One traveler and a tsa agent suffering Bullet Wounds in the cross fire. All expected to survive. Officials say the attacker in serious condition when taken to the hospital for surgery overnight. Operations returning to normal as you can see here at the airport. In fact, you cant really tell if theres even increased security this morning. As for the suspect, he is identified as a person who lives just about a mile from this airport. The motive, not known this morning. Dan. A lot of people who know him say they are very surprised by what has happened. Kendis, thank you very much. Behavior initially, dan, he doesnt hurt the two tsa agents. He sprays them with insect spray and then runs through the metal detector. Again, has ample opportunity to stick a number of people including tsa agents, doesnt. Keeps going and eventually chases a tsa agent and a uniformed officer shoots him for obvious reasons, so could one motive be suicide by cop . I think theyre going to have to look at that. And in your view from what we know now, how did security handle this . Well . I think fairly well, dan, because tsa is not armed. Thats why you have uniformed local officers at every concourse. The manhunt is on this morning trying to find the angry driver who shot a woman in the head. That woman somehow was able to pull over and call the cops for help, and abcs tai hernandez has the very latest on this case for us this morning. Good morning, tai. Reporter kim hafford went from driving to work to having bullet fragments removed from her skull at the hospital. The victim of a shocking incident of road rage. She says just because she honked at the other driver. This morning, police intensifying their search for the driver that shot 28yearold kay hafford in the back of the head after a road rage altercation in houston turned violent. One suv ran off the road and shot at her. Shes bleeding from the head. Reporter police say the suspect, a white male wearing a blue baseball cap and driving a white suv, pursued hafford friday morning when she honked at him for cutting her off as she was trying to merge onto the freeway. The guy that was driving the vehicle started taunting her, basically what developed into a road rage situation. She let him know by blowing the horn he shouldnt have cut her off. Reporter the suspects behavior quickly escalated following an unsuccessful attempt to get her to pull over. The guy let his window down, of course, she didnt let her window down. So thats when he proceeded to shoot her. Reporter hafford told police the driver of the white suv came around to the right side of her red sedan firing a single shot through the passenger side window critically injuring her before fleeing the scene. The victim was coherent enough to be able to steer her vehicle off the exit ramp where she stopped. She called 911. She was in and out of consciousness. Reporter this morning shes recovering in fair condition at the Memorial Hermann hospital in houston. The suspect remains at large and her family continues to be outraged at what they call a senseless act of violence. Im truly, truly upset. Nobody deserves that. Nobody deserves that. It all happened so quickly that hafford didnt even realize she was bleeding or had been shot until she pulled over to call 911 and while thankfully we dont hear about this kind of story very often, a recent poll shows one in ten drivers feels uncontrollable anger toward another driver on the road. Days after schock resigned in a Campaign Spending scandal, the feds are now stepping in to investigate his finances and abcs david wright is on the story. A strange one. Reporter he was an up and coming republican from peoria until he started styling himself like the earl of grantham with a sixpack. This has been a spectacular fall from grace, congressman schock resigned this week amid scandal and now hes the subject of an fbi investigation. Schock horror. Abc news has learned that Staff Members of former congressman aaron schock now face subpoenas to appear before a federal grand jury. The plot thickens. The fire ripped through this home in brooklyn overnight. Two other people are in critical condition. The children who died range in age from 5 to 15. They are believed to be members of the same family. More than 100 firefighters were called in to battle the blaze which is being investigated. And white house officials are skeptical over isis claims of responsibility for the deadly attacks on two mosques in yemen. At least 137 people were killed. 250 injured after multiple suicide bombers hit two crowded mosques during midday prayers in the capital of sanaa. The White House Press secretary saying often claims of responsibility are made for propaganda purposes. Isis also claimed responsibility in wednesdays shooting rampage at a museum in tunisia that killed 22 people. Some sad news now from our abc family. Our dear friend and colleague reporter anchor Lisa Colagrossi died suddenly of a brain aneurysm overnight. She started here in new york soon after the 9 11 attacks. Colleagues remember her as the ultimate pro, could go from tackling crime stories to Financial News and lisa could also find humor even at the expense of herself. New yorkers came to know lisas authentic, steady and reassuring reporting. Lease have colagrossi survived by her husband and two young sons. She was just 49 years old. But this morning in an interview his family telling us they hope that all that is about to change. Overnight, Asheville Police revealing for the first time that Robert Jason Owens charged with triple murder allegedly burned the bodies of pregnant Food Network Reality contestant Cristie Schoen codd, her husband, j. T. And their unborn child. He did admit to taking the bodies, storing on his property and destroying. Reporter police also calling the arrest of 37yearold owens a handyman who did jobs at the codds home a major event in the case of zebb quinn, an 18yearold last seen with owens before vanishing 15 years ago. The fact that he has been arrested on three counts of murder, that is a huge event in the zebb quinn case. Reporter quinns family stunned by the arrest and speaking out in an exclusive interview with Good Morning America. It breaks my heart that these other people had to die for some more information to come to light. Reporter despite owens being a primary suspect in quinns disappearance, detectives were never able to find evidence needed to bring charges. Quinns heartbroken mother and sister now desperate for an end to their turmoil. My hope for zebbs case is that either jason talks or someone else who has information comes forward and its good enough information that we can ultimately find zebb. We were very close. My mother and zebb and myself, we didnt do a whole lot without each other. Reporter well zebb quinns mother said she doesnt want the investigation into the murders of cristie codd and her husband to be overshadowed by questions about her on son.
