In fact as you look at satellite were going to get some sun up over the horizon later this morning and then eventually later today a few more clouds streak in but it does look like its going to be bright. Still kind of cool. 41 degrees in philadelphia, 31 down below the freezing mark in allentown, 36 trenton, 34 millville, 49 cape may and as we roll through the day look for lots of sun but it stays cool. 40 degrees bicep clock. By 10 oclock, 46. If youre trying to get around the city without septa by noon youre at 54 and your high will be 62 before slipping back to 59 at 6 oclock. Karen rogers. A septa strike affecting so many people. Lets run down exactly what is and is not running right now. Starting off with city buses. No city buses running with this strike. Suburban buses are running certainly expect overcrowding. The broad and market frankford subways not running, completely stopped with this strike. Also the trolleys, route 10, 11, 13, 15, 34, 36 not running. 101 and 102 norristown high speedline that is running during the strike so this is affecting so many people. Expect overcrowding. Remember, we already have problems with the reaches because of the problems that weve had for months continuing. Theyre not at full capacity yet. Weve seen many occasions where the Regional Rails are overcrowded skipping stations. Expect that again today. Dont forget that station that is sell tickets in advance youll need to get that ticket in advance. Youre not going to be able to give cash on the Regional Rails so that is going to be causing problems too with overcrowding. Theyre allowing you to pull up in the bus zones to kind of drop people off. We expect a lot of that today. Well be following the problems with the Regional Rails overcrowding because whats not running. Weve got septa not running. Huge problems right now that we expect through the morning and well be on top of it around the clock. We expect extra congestion on the highways as people are driving to work. Right now looking at the vine street expressway in the clear but the big problem with the septa strike were going to be following that through the morning matt and tam. Thank you, karen. Lets get out right now and head on over to action News Reporter Annie Mccormick live outside the sheraton in center city. Thats where septa officials and Union Leaders have been negotiating around the clock but thus far unsuccessfully. Good morning, annie. Reporter good morning, tam. Thats right, they are still on strike. However, last night after making a statement just after midnight the head of the union said that they were going to go back to the table and continue to try negotiations throughout the night. For their part septa says they also want to continue those negotiations as well. Take a look at this video. This is video of striking workers up in the northeast at bustleton. Now, more than 4700 local tw u2 34 members stopped work on the job at 12 01. Septa suggested the union work through the negotiations and pass the midnight deadline and of a variety strange the president willie brown said they had to draw line in the sand after two years of negotiating. Brown said they did agree on a few minor things. Driver fatigue however is still an issue and so he is healthcare but the main Sticking Point is pensions. Yesterday sources said both sides were tens of millions of dollars apart on this issue and a source said last night management gets a pension on full pay while Union Workers get a pension on partial pay and that is the deal breaker. Brown spoke to the media just after midnight. Take a listen. We have concede on a lot of things. We have been working this for two years. You know, and the thing that gets me the most is when you consider pensions, when you ask about the pensions were not being agreed he deal. I think septa slapped the riding public in the face they slapped the taxpayers in the face when they told you they going to do pension reform. Instead of doing pension he reform what they did was lined their pockets. Reporter now, septa released a statement saying in part mr. Brown walked away from a Contract Offer that would have provided his members pay raises and enhanced pension benefits maintained healthcare coverage levels and continue job security both Governor Wolf and mayor kenney are also weighing in saying this could be devastating to individuals and families. Theyre urging both sides to continue their negotiations and to come to an agreement. For now reporting live in center city, Annie Mccormick channel6 action news. Back to you. Yellow school buses will continue to operate. Action News Reporter john rawlins is live at the 69th Street Transportation Center in upper darby. John this is an area where septa riders are going to find trouble going if point a to point b. Reporter that is correct. Sixtyninth street station is kind of interesting. It has both suburban service and City Transit Service here. Normally it would have both operating and running by now. The city transit is out on a strike. Suburban is operate, thats the good news but it is going to make for problems. Its quiet here, its still pretty early but let me set the scene. Around the corner on victory avenue we should have video of pickets there from the twu. They assembled there shortly after midnight. Most of the folks here are involved with the market frankford line they maintain and operate the line. This is the western term us in for the market frankford line. They are being watched closely by police. In the meantime early commuters are trying to find a work around this city transit strike. Its not been easy for them. Frustrated. But motivated. Reporter so you were able to get a suburban bus to here. And thats it. Reporter now you got to get home. Yeah. Reporter how are you going to do that . I dont know. I guess im going to be walking. Reporter theres a theme there. A lot of people are probably going have to be walking. Theyre certainly going to have to find alternate means. We have seen shuttle buses contracted to help transport people who come in on the suburban sifted station stop here and try to get to work. Several companies have hired shuttle buses picking up some of their early arrivals not too long ago and were taking them to work in the city but for the most part unless youve made some sorter of plan its going to be a difficult day getting through the city of philadelphia if you normally depend on City Transit Service. And so crippling for your morning commute to think septa just not running. This is day one here. City buses not running. Suburban buses are running. So you can take the suburban buses. Trying to understand for you whats running and not running but certainly causing so many problems through the morning. You can take the Regional Rails but were already having problems with overcrowding with the Regional Rails so we expect that especially as you get to those stops closer to the city. As weve seen many times already with the problems that weve had with Regional Rails, weve seen the trains just bypassing certain stations. They have added some extra trains to try to help with this but we expect overcrowding with the Regional Rails to be a major issue. As we look outside live on i95 expecting more people on the roads and right now weve got an accident. This is on i95 here northeast philadelphia between street road and woodhaven road as youre heading southbound towards academy you can see the flashing lights with police. Weve got an accident blocking the left lane. Penndot on the scene. Traffic slowing past the scene. Looking on your majors thats our only accident here. The blue route and schuylkill moving nicely. We expect more people hanging out at those Regional Rails waiting nor train to come or maybe walking to work and its a cool morning. 28 degrees in martins creek. Matt and tam. All right, thank you, karen. Lets go on over now to action News Reporter bob brooks for a live look at the only station. Bob thats usually a packed busy station on a workday morning. Reporter tamala, good morning. We expect it to be even more crowded because of the strike thats happening. You can see behind me here nobody here right now but again thats 100 percent going to change as the Regional Rail line one of the only it is the only train thats in and around the city available during the strike. So, we expect it to get jam packed this morning. I want to bring up some video here. Youre going to see this is from the frankford Transportation Center just moments after that strike was announced. As you can imagine riders there they werent very happy. Well hear from them in just a second but again, 400,000 plus riders depend on septa every day obviously we hope things turn out well for commuters though. This no doubt is going to be a huge inconvenience. Now, on top of the Regional Rail line there are some other bus and trolley routes still in service around the city. Its limited so please check in on what those are. Now also the Ride Sharing Company uber is expanding their services. I want to bring up a graphic be and an man. Its an 800 percent increase adding service to cover 59 new station right now for at least werent septa rider we spoke with that does not matter. Shes pretty upset and disapp pointed it had to come to this. Its affecting everybody. Theres kids that have to go to school, parents that have to get to work. Theres people that have to go about their dale life and theyre not going to be able to and it just doesnt make sense to me. Instead of everybody just walking away, i think there should be like a more mature way of handling things instead of just walking away from stuff. Reporter another live look here at the olney Regional Rail line station. Nobody here but again that is 100 percent going change once the morning rush comes in. A lot of companies have put out contingency plans to help their employees get to work in a timely manner and that includes the city. The citys plan is to provide a free shuttle for City Employees along the broad street line and market frankford line with 12 buses but you do need to he show proof of city employment so youll want to keep that in mind.
